Velvet nearly broke, but came back all the more stronger out of it. And it was satisfying seeing Melchior's ass served on a silver platter like that.

It looks like Melchior and Arthorius clearly misinterpreted their now deceased friends wishes.
Oh yes, very much so. Though one has to wonder if Melchoir actually misinterpreted it or just twisted the original meaning for his own purposes.
Seriously, neither Artorius nor Innominat are the big bads here. Melchoir is.

He claims to follow Claudin's ideals, of which he stated: "My people, you must always live with great vigor and hold hope for the world and for our future. Man can turn reason into disorder, but also can we surpass it. Our true power is in transcending the possible to achieve the ideal. My people, you must live without hesitation. Hold hope in your hearts. Hold hope for tomorrow."
His means of interpretation is this: "Man can turn reason into disorder, but also can we surpass it. Our true power is in transcending the possible to achieve the ideal." He cites that particular part as his decision to adhere to "reason". It's even heavily implied that Melchior either misinterpreted Claudin's words or outright ignored their true meaning.

The way Zavied announces Malak Number 1's new name just sounds hilarious. "Guess who got a new naaaame!" XDD
And this solidifies Magilou as my favorite Tales character (although I don't really watch/play many tales games)

Melchior comes off as an ass here. Not gonna be sad if he ultimately bites the dust.
Also never change Magliou. Really leave it to her to respond to getting saved from death with sarcasm.
One could easily say that Melchoir is the real villain of the story. He set up Celica's death (who here really believes those townsfolk actually sold them out?), he spurred Arthur's start of darkness, and he took his mentor's words WAY out of context, likely intentionally.
Old bastard deserves a spot in the deepest pits of Hell.
Really, the only good thing about Melchoir is that he's voiced by Reinhardt.
