    Sometime in the year 2055, a unmodified Civic like this would be auctioned for $180,000 at Barrett-Jackson.

      hey buddy! I'm glad you agree! I only like stock original cars, once you modify them they will never reflect the reality of what owning a car like this would have been in the 90's. BTW I recently sold this car, but I still get to see it once in a while. I used the money to buy a 1/5 scale giant Gas Remote Control Truck, I'm serious. Search my channel for "primal mt" you will see it.

    I had 98 EX 2 door with 5 speed manual trans that I bought low miles used and proceeded to drive forever. Talking 15 years 200,000+ miles to bring it up to nearly 300,000 total. I honestly did sloppy maintenance, jiffy lube pennzoil oil changes no sooner than every 5,000 miles and changed the timing belt late. It was the most trouble free car I've ever owned. I was so sad when I lost it in a divorce because I know if I still had it I'd still be driving it everyday. The only thing wearing out was the interior, everything worked as it should, even the AC blew cold(ish). It was even plenty sporty if you drove it like you stole it, which it didn't mind one bit. Best car I've ever had in my 30 years of driving and owning cars!

    I had a 98 Civic EX Milano red coupe. Good car but was surprised when I bought my 93 Accord EX it had more options in 93 than 98 with 4 wheel disk brakes and 15" alloy rims and way better built inside and out. The quality of carpet and materials aren't even close. The 1993 Accord EX has it all over the 96-00 Civics and even Accords when it comes to build quality. Plus I love having glass headlights that will never fade.

    • @hybrid32494
      @hybrid32494  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      hey buddy!!!, I totally agree, the early 90's accords are terrific cars for the time. I would love getting one if it was low mileage and original, but have only found this civic for now, hahaahah. And btw, many early 90's cars had glass headlights, until most brands switched to cheaper and more reliable plastic headlight housings.

    Nice car! I'd like to share with you that my father in law run a very similar one here in Brazil, it is a 1999 EX and like yours it is totaly oririnal and in very good conditions, although the millage is arround 100k.It is interesting to see the differences between the cars, his one is from one of the first years the Civic began to be assembled here in Brazil, not sure where yours in US was made... The EX here didn't have the sun roof on the other hand it was sold with leather interior (seats and parts of the door panel), there is also a small difference on the design of the mirrors, seats and weels.Last weekend I was helping him to clean up all the car interior and polish it, looks like a 2 years old car! I'll post a video about it soonly and send you the link. It is very interesting to see people taking car of the same car model in different parts of the world.(In my youtube chanel I usually post videos about my 1973 Bug and some home maintanace I do on my Honda City, it is a sedan that shares the same platform as the Fit and as far as I know Honda comercialize it on developing countries only)

It"s too bad that you didn2t had the pleasure to have tried back in days your Integra on our freeways,as you know,here in Germany they are some sections on the freeway where you are allowed to drive so fast as u want lol

      @michaellangdonful 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      hybrid32494
      Yeah same here. I do like the automatic in mine but @ the same time I do like a manual too. I’ve had my Honda since the end of my high school senior year. When I bought it it had only 158,847 miles & the paint job was faded from the typical Honda clear coat problem from the factory. Just last year I had it taken in to Maaco in Eugene & had them repaint my car. It’s got the factory metallic blue on it (I had them repaint it the same color). I’ve taken good care of it. I’ve never modified or ruined my car in any way. Never raced it in any way. It’s just not easy to find any Honda Civics from 1998 that are this clean. Because people who are my age or who are half my age just modify the living crap out of them and drive them hard.

    • @hybrid32494
      @hybrid32494  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      how much was your paint job from macco? I went there one with my other car ( 2007 Toyota Prius). Painted the hood for 325 and it was basically rusting within half a year. I filled a claim to get warranty work done on the paint and failed. So I realize it is usually cheaper to buy another 1500 dollar car than to paint one, LOL.

    bro! is this the civic you sold to buy the Raminator?? Must have been a tough decision to let a gem like this go... My unmolested '92 civic si hatch is my favorite car driven to date. Nothing like the vtec engine in other cars in the era. Finally had to retire it around 250k miles.

    I just got a 98 LX with only 64K for my son's first car. It is not as nice as this, but it is still a solid car. Right now is peak junkyard time for these, as I have had to get a few parts for his and I am seeing quite a few coming into the wrecking yards, usually with 300K or over. I'm pretty sure that it is peak time, as I hardly see any in the yard of the previous generation and only a few of the 2001 and up models. I am guessing that in about 3 years junk yard parts for these will become harder to come by. Right now if a nice one comes into the yard, it is picked clean within a few weeks, while the more beat up ones tend to stay around longer.

    Blast from my past. bought the same color model new in Oct '98 and sold it in Aug '12 with 235k miles. Only issues are the AC no longer worked as was more expensive to replace than the car's value and that the pipe between the cat converter and the muffler would rust and crack requiring replacement every 3ish years. I had a wire hanger in the truck I used to tie the exhaust to the tow hook to keep the pressure off the pipe to extend the time from the inevitable.

      @@hybrid32494 Thanks for responding to me, wow you got a great deal with less than 60k miles on it and it was an EX as well, and you just sold with even, very nice indeed. I have 1998 Honda Civic LX, I bought it brand new, cost me more than $15,000 back in 1998 I still drive it. My brother helped me to replaced the timing belt and water pump three years ago when it was 102,000 miles on it and now it has 109,920. My Honda Civic LX doesn't give me much problem either, it cost me very little to buy the parts to fix. It is very economical car. Our family own only Honda products, from Honda Civic, Honda Accord to Acura RL.

      Unfortunately, about 5 months ago, when I was stop at the traffic, a man drove a Ford Winstar van and hit me from behind, he hit me so hard that I heard very loud noise, later on I found out where I store the spare tire, it was popped up and the water sips into the trunk and both sides, left and right trunk, have dents....that guy didn't pay attention what he was driving. I was shaking so hard because I never had that kind of accident before. He paid me only 260 bucks for hitting me. The money he paid me, it is not enough to repair the damaged he caused. Luckily, I was not hurt. Most importantly, the car was built like a tank and it was built in Canada, the Canadian knew how to build cars.

      My ex unfortunately doesn’t come with it, would I have to go to a Honda dealer and get a key fitment and the fob?

    • @hybrid32494
      @hybrid32494  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      chances are somebody lost the keyfob along the way. Yo can get a cheap system installed at most any auto places. HONDA def gonna rip you off. Try getting a price quote.

      hey buddy! Good luck! These cars were highly desirable at the time and some can still be found today in great shape, like this one! Ofcourse it's also an ideal car to restore due to the huge aftermarket parts scene for these. Good luck bro!!.

    Great car in great shape! I am original owner of a '98 EX sedan, manual tranny, silver, which might be "one of a kind". It's just as clean, from what I can see, but with leather seats, door inserts and wheel cover; factory alloys, sunroof visor, door edge and fender well moldings, and much more. Little over 96k miles...always garaged and waxed. Serviced only at Honda or Acra dealers...service records available. It is for sale...321-442-3621. Make an offer!

    • @hybrid32494
      @hybrid32494  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      hey buddy! This model does have VTEC, but it's not the same VTEC as the JDM TYPE R higher spec motors. This model has about an extra 20 HP compared to the LX non-VTEC model in the USA. ITs basically the low range VTEC.

    Automatic transmissions in these civics are weak. They don't handle too well when it comes to wear and tear when driven hard. You have to baby the transmission and generously change the transmission fluid with Honda transmission fluid.

    • @psions555
      @psions555 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Bang on, they MUST be properly maintained and with the correct fluid. The design of the gearbox means that all of the power has to go through a tiny clutch pack that each gear has. It does help to lift off a little as they shift. Good advice!

    have one like yours,but is a 1999,white with ABS,bought it to replace my 98 LX,with over 250 k,compare to that car, VTEC really made the difference,even it is a automatic,these car might not be quick,or fast,but because they are small,and with the discontinued double wishbones suspension,very fun on turns, drove my niece's 2012, it's not the same even though it has more power....

    • @hybrid32494
      @hybrid32494  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      thanks for watching. VTEC is pretty important stuff in the HONDA cars, an additional 25 HP about from the same displacement, why not. Although I rarely rev to over 3000 RPM in this car, and drive it sparingly. I agree about the suspension, very comfortable too.
