  • Here we split open Jurassic Ammonite Fossils with our rusty hammer! Some Golden, some dull and some iridescent mouth-watering fossils! Make sure to stick around to the end of the video to see all of these stunning specimens. This is an insight into the past, what life was like 180 Million Years Ago even before many of the most famous land-dwelling Dinosaurs ever existed.

Lucky find for Shae with that nautilus! I love the sea views, and it’s nice to show that you often find nothing inside the nodules. Two of the nodules Shae sent me opened up very easily, the other one took quite a lot more muscle and whacks with the hammer 😆 All very nice specimens though!

It was such a lucky find yeah! Most of the nodules are empty so it’s quite nice to show them as well I agree 👌🏻 I’m glad they opened well, I hope you enjoyed opening them 💪🏻😎

It’s hard to explain but fossil hunting is so much fun. And thank you for confirming I’m “cracking” fossils the right way. Where I live there’s really on Cambrian and pre Cambrian fossils making them alot more fragile and I always feel bad when I accidentally destroy one.

Love these videos. I have 7 nodules, all have ammonites peaking through, but... followed demos online and two have been damaged 😢. Now using the soak in water, then freezing with water, then thaw, then repeat method, after chipping off bits to improve permeability of the concreted shale. But very slow, looks to take months... Ideas?

How do u know which orientation to strike round rocks? Have you ever hammered perpendicular to the fossil, damaging it?

We learned through practise but sometimes the fossils can also get damaged, we have minimised this however
