      That ending is the canon ending in my eyes especially if you manage to make V and Johnny become friends. It just doesn't make sense for V to take back control of his body knowing he'll die and take Johnny with him in six months. It's much more tragic if he lets Johnny have his body. Johnny gets a second chance at life and do things differently, it's not a happy ending, but it's the happiest ending either character will get. I took that quote as him saying ''the life I lead from this day forward is for V''.

    • @joeldelgado1376
      @joeldelgado1376 ปีที่แล้ว +23

      I agree, it was a moment to softly cope with the existentialism. Johnny knowing the results of his life amounted to nothing yet at the beginning he was so adamant to tell you, "Johnny Silverhand died a fucking legend," meant something to him. He strongly believed he mattered. All that egotistical, uptune, and pretending to know more than he actually didn't. A front that broke apart in that one scene.
      The lighthearted moment was a feeling of comfort that he just needed a little to feel good even though he felt like crap.

    • @ChadVulpes
      @ChadVulpes ปีที่แล้ว +15

      @@joeldelgado1376 I think Johnny was joyful in that scene because he realized that not all is yet lost. Note that in order to hear this dialogue, V has to say that Johnny used V and can’t trust him at all. Then you have to say that you’ll give him the last second chance.
      As for why he was sad, he said it: he thought there would at least be a marker after him. But then, that doesn’t exclude what you said. Nice write up.

    The guitar that comes in around the two minute mark really hits home, and the synth waves around 2:30. It makes you feel so alone, isolated. You almost sympathize with Johnny, you understand his difficulties even if they’re killing you, even if he’s killing you. You’re both approaching your end so you reflect in that light in the graveyard, a Night City Legend without a grave and a mercenary fighting to survive. This wasn’t what I signed up for, but I couldn’t be happier with what I got.

      @@linuxtuxvolds5917 Cyberpunk is FULL of moral, political, religious, and social commentary. Not even Cyberpunk 2077, but the whole genre of "bladerunner-style" cyberpunk sci-fi. Johnny's "path to redemption" is fascinating in so many ways. The idea of a man having a chance to reconcile his own death and horrible failures, while not wanting to fall prey and "fuck this up" again in his second and last chance at having a life and a friend? That's some inspiring writing right there.
      The stories told in games can carry as much weight as a book or a movie and some would argue even moreso. It's not an "inferiority complex" to find meaning in a scene clearly designed to be slow, thoughtful and emotional.

    For me, the conversation at Silverhands' grave was the pinnacle of the game's story, atmosphere, character, and overall just my favorite scene.
    Johnny, up until this point, has been nothing but a pompous, arrogant, self-consumed rockerboy rebel, blinded by rage for corporations and himself, but by Chippin' In he's matured from an anarchist rockstar to a man keenly aware he lost everything well before his death, hoping to atone while unintentionally murdering the one friend he's ever had. The oil is literally a result of the decomposition of millions of corpses, that lasted millions of years. I remember sitting there at the oil fields with Johnny, this music playing in the background, the two of us having a deep conversation about this strange bond between us. It was a beautiful moment, a heart to heart talk with Johnny that showed how much he changed after living in my head.
    I said he was the guy who saved my life. He said he wanted that to be true. But I didn't... because it would have meant only one thing for Johnny, and I wasn't ready to evict the voice in my head. :(

Johnny was a great character, what is also really great, he felt like a real human being, despite having Keanu's appearance. They nailed characters in this game, every one of them feels like a real person, and it was really really sad that V and Johnny couldnt be together no matter what you do. Connections like this define you even in real life, they affect your whole vision of what the life is.

    • @thecornerho4472
      @thecornerho4472 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      depends on your point of view sure V dies and the city won but its how you die that matters do you die chained and shackled to a corporation that doesn't give 2 shits about you or do you die surrounded by friends and those that care about you? Or do you die doing something equally legendary sticking your middle finger out and telling the world YOU LIVED? Or do you die to save a comrade's life from cyberspace hell? Do you put it all to rest and leave the world behind? Sometimes its not the ending that matters. Sometimes its the journey that gets you there. From my own viewpoint V was a merc which have very short lifespans hence the name from the club the "afterlife" all legends have short ends and did something to earn it. As V i wasn't willing to risk the lives of those I cared about. Equally i wasn't willing to let johnny risk his own chooms lives instead of biting the bullet i went the way of a legend storming hell itself and walked away. As painful as endings go the journey to being a legend means sacrifice. In other versions of my previous playthroughs you can also go through it and realize that being a legend aint all that its cracked up to be and walk away still a legend but die surrounded by those who actually give a shit about you. The ambiguity is what makes it an interesting story. Tragedy is sadly a genre that isnt popular with people now everybody wants sunshine and daisies happy endings. Sometimes tragedies are what make you realize that sometimes you don't always win.
