Gundula Janowitz was the leading and famost jugendlich dramatic soprano between 1964 and 1990. the Pamina in Klemperers Magic Flute. Famos for her Arabella, Ariadne, Marschalin, Capriccio Countess , and specially Mozart : Pamina, Ilia, Donna Anna, Fiordiligi. but sang also some italian roles like Aida, Mimi, Amelia (Simone B.), or french and czech roles and a lot of Lieder. She was fix member, now Ehrenmitglied, in Vienna but sang world wide, and recorded hundreds of recordings with Karajan, Böhm, Bernstein, Abbado, Kempe, Richter, Stein, Keilberth, Klemperer.....
Janowitz, one of my favorite singers, is a bit miscast as a Verdi soprano, IMO. She still sings beautifully with her special timbre which is better suited to Mozart & Strauss, IMO.
Yes, the full audio is easy to find on youtube; it is the Vienna 1970 recording in Vienna (conductor Horst Stein; Philip: Nicolai Ghiaurov; Eboli: shirley Verrett; etc.) A full video… I have not yet ever found - not sure if it exists.
@@francisca1378 aw I hoped there would be an entire video recording, the audio I knew already :/ Probably the rest is stuck at the ORF archives or completely gone :( thank you tho!
yea, it is a live recording from Vienna 1971. Definitely … different for her. She did sing some other heavier roles, like Odabella in Attila and some Wagner.
@@draganvidic2039 yes! it surprised me too. There is a live recording of her in Attila from the Berliner Staatsoper. I think she also performed in Simon Boccanegra live, but I've never heard a live performance.
@@draganvidic2039 yea not right for her, although I kind of think if she sang a bit less constricted (I mean she isn‘t bad but a bit too “bright” in tone) she coukd have managed some heavier roles... not Elisabetta though... idk if its Karajan’s doing but I suspect that too. (btw she did sing the full Attila!)

Sublime and beautiful!!!👏🌹👏This duo is incomparable in its beauty and emotional content!💯💯💯It's a gift from Heaven!❤❤️❤️
Corelli and Janowitz are wonderful.
Emotional, passion and grief in an amazing mixture. Both voices exceptionally beautiful!

Stupendo Corelli ❤❤❤
Non conosco il soprano, ma sembra molto brava pure lei! 👏❣
Se non sbaglio e' il Don Carlo a Vienna nel 70 con Corelli Janovitz Ghiaurov Talvela Verrett.

Due voci insuperabili celestiali!!!! Corelli e più bello di.un.Dio
I normally do not care for Corelli’s Don Carlos for the musical inaccuracies that are so damaging to Verdi, but this clip is extremely moving.
che splendidi!loro! le voci! dolci, struggenti....siete indimenticabili ❤

@@yaelavivi501 Me, too. Very disappointing! If you ever find it let me know! :)
Did Janowitz sing this on stage?
(Small limited Mozartian type of voice)

I know she recorded Sieglinde.

I hope it’s just the aria from Attila...
Anyway I guess she got used for wrong roles (Karajan?) like so many others...
