How clean do you need to make the area before putting on the first coat?

What primer are you using? Any admixtures to the brown and finish coats?

Thanks for the comment! We are using Sure Bond primer from Deco-Crete. The overlay used for the finish coats is a "just add water" bag product, the only admixture would be if you wanted to add color. I'll leave links to the primer and overlay products below. Someone said to put pva glue in the skim coat to make it adhere? Does that work?

    • @DecoCreteTV

Easy patch already has dry polymer in the material. Along with priming the surface and following the techniques in this video, no pva glue is necessary. Thanks for watching!

Really late answer I know... but NO, you should not PVA use as an additive outside. It will not hold up to water in the long run and can cause premature erosion. It can be used inside or in areas with minimal water exposure though. Generally acrylic additives (sometimes called latex) are just better these days and also handle water reaally well. It improves both adhesion, workability and strength (because you can use less water).
But the primer on the original substratenshould already be an acrylic type, so adding more to the mix itself in that case usually doesnt help adhesion much further. In many cases the very same product is used both to prime and as an additive. It can still help with easier flow as an additive though if you need that, and a little bit in the slurry layer is probably n9t a bad idea.
