to save even more money, assuming your surface is conductive and supposedly flat, you can connect one pin to the bit and one to the workpiece. also if you don't want to spend money, instead of using a hard probe level and placing a sheet of metallic film (aluminium or tin foil) on the workpiece and connecting a crocodile clip to it.
you should really build the MPCNC, i think you would have great fun with it. would be nice to see them compared. just finished mine and i'm kinda blown away what you can do with it :)
I don't know if you know this but Chilipeppr has a auto leveling feature where it probes a user specified grid and auto scales the z movement to mach the warped area on the conductive material I usually mill pcbs with 0.5 mm cutting bit and havent had a broken bit ever since I started using chilipeppr if you dont want to use it as a gcode sender you can import auto leveled gcode.
I know chilipeppr, I wanted to use it to mill PCBs on this machine the problem is that I use KiCAD for PCB design and there is no way to mill boards designed with KiCAD. Maybe just to showcase PCB milling I will get back to Eagle for a moment.
VERY INTERESTING ! I am asking if there is a possibility to install the autolevelling ( or height map ) extention on the CNCjs program ? Is there a simple step by step procedure to follow for a PC running win_10 OS please ? Thanks
Use chemical tinner (no not thinner as in the stuff you use to dilute some types of paint but tinner without the H). This is a special chemical liquid that will allow you tin the copper so it is still conductive but will not oxidate. Getting it however is a little hard, it is quite easy to find in the US but here in Europe you will have to search quite a bit. All you do is just dunk it in the liquid and the you will see the copper turn silver/white. Or you could use an electrolysis method to do it if you can't find the liquid. If you don't the copper will oxidate and ... well it might not make good contact.
Not as hard, as you think - there's SENO 3211. It's cheap and not that hard to get from online electronics shops. But yeah, it's indeed a very good idea to tin the plate!
Overkill is underrated my friend! Great vid! I appreciate the extra effort for the stop motion. Might I suggest the CA Glue/tape solution for holding down a workpiece? Once I started using this, I have never gone back. (Then the piece wont pop out near the end of the contour cut as well. Either way, thanks for the video!
It needs weight. I've used PCBs before, and the problem is they are too light and like to float over your stock material. I ended up 3D printing my own, made it hollow, filled it with a steel weight and epoxied a PCB on top, after nickel plating over the copper ( that's the other issue with copper, it tarnishes easily)......I am set up to do all of this easily though were some people wont be.
I'm totally building one of these this summer. I have an older Anet A8 that I don't use anymore, so I'm going to rob as many parts from that as possible.
Looks a bit light weight to br properly flat on the material right ? 🤔 The connector is a nice addition to be able to make more type of probe. Think about mesh probing for making pcb with flatcam or bcnc, that would be great !
Hello and sincere congratulations for your excellent work. It is not clear to me the electrical connection of the probe on arduino and if it is necessary to connect some cable to the motor of the Z axis. Would you be kind enough to explain it? Thanks a lot and congratulations again!
think of it this way, the circuit current/signal travels from the SCL port goes to the small circle part on the pcb, there it goes into the alligator clip through the bit and back to the bigger circle on the same pcb and run through the ground wire completing the circuit.
GND go arduino GND to allicator clip, this video only GND go to little point at PCB and then wire go to allicator clip, and SCL wire go to arduino SCL to PCB big copper plate, little copper point have GND wire and continue go to allicator clip.
Superb project, i was very impressed about these project and i am also going to do like this but i want little bit bigger. So please give me the measurements for those things if i want workspace 12x12 inches for pcb prototyping. And make more videos for pcb prototyping with this machine. And i want know how much filament it consumed to print those 3d printed parts?
Hello, first of all, I wish you success, health teacher, I also made a dramel cnc, but sometimes there is a twitch in the y-axis, but I checked the axes manually, there is no problem, it may cause other stepper motor current settings I made 060 power supply 10 amps, there may be another reason, my teacher regards
Great Video Brother, i am planning to Make one, but i am confused, is it necessary to make that smaller part in touch plate? Can't i use 1 single piece circular, if i make Circle is it necessary to make smaller circle inside it?
did you already tried to cut some carbonplates on your cnc? is it solid and stable enough for cutting such hard materials? because i want something that can handle carbon cutting to make my own quadcopter frames
if you can cutting wood, you can cut carbon sheet too, or aluminium or plastic or bone. only need ewery material test first what is good speed and feed .
Yes, depending on the nozzle (brass nozzles are conductive). But wiring them up and configuring them in the controller and software is a little more tricky.
I wouldn't attach it to your hotend for obvious reasons, but if you 3D print a bracket that holds a metal pin (like the drill bit in this video) next to your hotend, this method would work just fine for your 3D printer

Just use feeler gauge or a slip gauge block and thats it, ultimate accuracy also cheap. So why make make it complicated also I don't think the thickness of pcb would be even.

good job - but hats the name of the cnc control program?
Nice and simple idea! I think crocodile clip could be connected directly on wire, but it doesn't matter.
Thanks! Yeah it could, but that way it's cleaner and I can use the connector
Nice, would add some strain relief on the cables , because if one comes lose you probably going to destroy a milling-bit.

A great addition. Are you planning to add an interchangeable spindle/laser? This would really take it to anther level.
Make it rectangular and you can use it to probe the X & Y of the workpiece corner to.

Nikodem ,a gdzie to wpiąć w arduino shield kiedy wszystkie krańcówki są już zajęte?

Do you have a STL file for the vaccume attachment?
Is it possible to use a different extension on your files for the people that do not have auto desk?
Can we make the same thing on 3d printers with metalic printing bed?
Yes you can, but it would be easier to use a solution designed for 3D printers such as a BLTouch or a capacitive sensor.
yes, but if the nozzle have rest of plastic will not detect the bed and can crash.
Love the cnc videos.
Hallo, welche GRBL Software ist das ??????
can you also make end switches on this machine?
Yeah, some people added those, maybe I will add them too one day :)
I would have used a feeler gauge as the touch pad. It has an accurate measurement and harder that copper.
Nice and simple.
