    I wish Standby worked without being plugged in, it's a great little user interface!

    • @mmikee407
      @mmikee407 ปีที่แล้ว +23

      It will most likely be a drain to the battery and that will render it counterproductive specially when used as bedside feature at night.

    • @hambo76
      @hambo76 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      @@mmikee407 I don't mind that the screen switches off, I quite like it next to my computer when I work. I just tap it to see the time or a calendar, or the weather etc.

    • @mmikee407
      @mmikee407 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, no big deal the screen switches off, however it doesn't on 14 and 15 pro if the always on display setting is on. This option doesn't show on older model and non pro 15 iphone. An "always on standby" mode therefore will drain the battery quite a bit on those devices overnight if it can be activated without charging the phone especially with the widgets continuously updating the info they display. They had to design it to require charging so it can be ubiquitous to all models. @@hambo76

      I wish there was a way to control the brightness while in standby mode
      Every time I use it my phone thinks my room is dark when it’s just under a shaded spot in my room cause the light is directly over it

      Turn the night mode off from the setting. It would stop the display from turning red@@kitkitsune6570

    Used it last night after updating to IOS17 yesterday on 14 Pro Max. It was not intuitive to set up but finally got a screen I liked. Especially like the red Night Mode. I thought it was always on until I woke up once and noticed the screen was blank. When I moved my head it instantly came on. Nicely done, but wish it were simpler to set up.

    Standby is a great concept. Might still be buggy. Have a 14 Pro Max and even with Always On, it only comes on for 15 secs or so and goes dark. Can tap to bring up again, but that won’t work when all I want to do is have a half-open eye see what time it is in the middle of the night. No amount of toggle on/off or rebooting the phone is solving it.

    The clock feature is very nice as a nightstand device, but seeing the other features with UI unique to this mode (like setting a timer or the new Siri interface) really turns your phone into a home-hub type device akin to Google Home or Alexa devices with built-in screens. I hope they eventually expand some of these features to iPads too, because that would give them so much extra functionality when not in use!

  • @0000kris0000

    Great video as always.
    They need to make the always on option, actually always on. I thought this would be good for if I wake in the night so I can see the time without having to tap the screen of my phone. But no. The screen goes off, and when it detects motion, it temporarily forgets that night mode is enabled so it blasts you with some full screen brightness before turning red again. Very annoying.
    I also think they should make editing options available when you’re not actually in standby mode.
    I’d like to see an option to pick a ring tone for every function/notification on the phone. Ios17 has changed some of the sounds that have been a default sound for years and I hate them! They’re using the “headphones too loud” sound for my blink camera app, so everytime my camera is activated I think it’s telling me my headphones are too loud. I’m sure every phone even before iPhone had customisable ringtone options.

    You're very good and I always learn from your videos, but in this case you omitted the part where you control how a clock display works while you sleep. For me, it took me several tries to learn how to keep the time displayed so I can open an eye in the middle of the night and see the time, but I can't be sure I found the right settings to do that until I sleep tonight. Initially, I thought I could not change the time display from going off and a movement of my hand near the phone was needed to make the display come back.

    Just a question. Does the standby mode turn black after a while. I’ve noticed that during the day it stays on the whole time, but when going to bed and charging the phone, it goes black only to go on when I reach to it.
    Actually, would be nice if it stayed on the whole time so when you wake at night you see the time when you open your eyes instead of reaching for the phone to wake it.
    Is there a fix for this that you know of? Thanks! 😊

    Love your videos. I noticed an issue when I have the phone on white noise app overnight and hit snooze while in standby mode. After I hit snooze and wait the 9 minutes, it clicks but no alarm. Any info on this?

    Not intuitive is an understatement. Lol. Mine goes to sleep all the time. So much for the word stand by.

    I can listen to that voice all day, but I’ll take nine minutes of bliss. 😉
