Used it last night after updating to IOS17 yesterday on 14 Pro Max. It was not intuitive to set up but finally got a screen I liked. Especially like the red Night Mode. As you alluded to, it’s not exactly intuitive but brilliant once you figure it out

I have an iPhone mini 12 and have found this out by charging my phone up last night and am loving the options! I cannot call them easy but I have only had this a year and all of this is totally new to me! I am loving it all and thank you for your help!
Great video as always. They need to make the always on option, actually always on. I thought this would be good for if I wake in the night so I can see the time without having to tap the screen of my phone. But no. The screen goes off, and when it detects motion, it temporarily forgets that night mode is enabled so it blasts you with some full screen brightness before turning red again. Very annoying. I also think they should make editing options available when you’re not actually in standby mode. I’d like to see an option to pick a ring tone for every function/notification on the phone. Ios17 has changed some of the sounds that have been a default sound for years and I hate them! They’re using the “headphones too loud” sound for my blink camera app, so everytime my camera is activated I think it’s telling me my headphones are too loud. I’m sure every phone even before iPhone had customisable ringtone options.

Nice little addition to my iPhone, however I wish it added the a.m. or p.m. next to the correct time. This time of year it's just as dark at 7:00 a.m. as it is at 7:00 p.m. period and sometimes if I have a nap I forget which one I'm in. So I like how it shows up when I asked my new Apple TV 4K 3rd generation what time is it, it shows me a.m. or p.m.

Great review. I had heard about this yet in spite of it being turned on in settings I never turned it on its side. Great excuse to buy a stand. Question. I would like to have a digital clock with date on left and weather on the right. Ca you guide me on how to do it?
A great feature I was previously unaware of. Would be useful to see if you can dim the display if it’s going to be by my bed - also, will the notifications mute if i have the sleep function on?
Hi warren from Australia I have a iPhone 13 mini so I don’t get always on standby mode but when it’s on my stand and I tap the table next to it it comes straight back on. Thank you for the video
Hi, great video! Just a question. Does the standby mode turn black after a while. I’ve noticed that during the day it stays on the whole time, but when going to bed and charging the phone, it goes black only to go on when I reach to it. Actually, would be nice if it stayed on the whole time so when you wake at night you see the time when you open your eyes instead of reaching for the phone to wake it. Is there a fix for this that you know of? Thanks! 😊
You touch on the fact that this only works as an always on display on the iPhone 14 pro and later. On all other iPhones running IOS 17 it keeps turning off and is effectively useless. Is there a fix for this? I have heard that you can run a shortcut that will keep the display on and enable older iPhone users to enjoy this marvellous feature too. Could you cover this in a future video. It would help a lot of people as it does not seem likely that Apple will bother to make this feature available themselves as they appear to want to force people to upgrade their phones.
Good video. First to mention it doesn’t actually stay on. ;). Wished you would have addressed how it remembers the customizations for each charger ie office or bedroom.
The clock feature is very nice as a nightstand device, but seeing the other features with UI unique to this mode (like setting a timer or the new Siri interface) really turns your phone into a home-hub type device akin to Google Home or Alexa devices with built-in screens. I hope they eventually expand some of these features to iPads too, because that would give them so much extra functionality when not in use!
idk if im just dumb but....can you only select an analog clock from the first view? like I want the first view with the two widgets on both side, but I want a digital clock!!!
This is a great article, however it misses one point charging of your phone. If you want to have this working means your phone is on charging regardless of battery level, I was under the impression this was not good for battery life? Would love to know the correct way of charging
biggest problem with it as it is now is the red nighttime light is not adjustable intensity. On my phone it’s so dull you can hardly even see it. so I disabled nighttime mode. The other problem is sometime during the night the screen goes blank. I have to tap on it to wake it up again and to get standby to work. I have to actually open the phone and put it to sleep again. Doesn’t do much good when you’re supposed to be able to glance at it and see the time
Stand-By works perfectly. Screen is always on in every focus, except in sleepfocus. Maybe screen is always dimmed in sleep focus, so stand-by will dim as well?
I like the feature and when night mode is enabled the display has red figures however. The display is reasonably bright to start but then goes very dim and almost unreadable. Pity Apple don't give you ability to make brighter
Okay, thank you very much indeed for that video. Very useful however when in bed and using the standby mode and I want to then listen to the radio or listen to some music how do I disable this to get back to my iPhone home screen and use the apps that it displays, I can’t seem to get this to work
Thanks. This was great. The only caveat I found is if I go to a story from news, let's say, it doesn't go back to standby mode when I close it. Any ideas?
Both my 13 Pro Max and 14 Pro Max will NOT rotate screen. Both updated to 17.0.2 ‘Rotate Lock’ is OFF in Control NO rotation on iPhone. ‘Rotate’ works perfect on my iPads, from ancient ipad gen5 to 2022 Pro 12.9.
Please can you do a video with the new contact poster feature.. it just doesn’t work 😰 all we get is grey screens no matter what we do .. one 11pro max and one 14 pro .. both on 17.0.2
Really did like the StandBy mode, even though the Always On option was limited to newer models. Assume that was because of display type and possible burn out if used on older models? I'm still using a venerable 11! However, having just updated my phone to iOS 17.3 I see that the StandBy mode has been eliminated - at least it appears to be on my iPhone 11. Now when I put the locked phone on to the charging stand, it just displays the sign in number keypad!! Is this just me? Have I missed something? The StandBy mode is activated.
Sorry, what I meant to ask is can I make the standby blue clock a little lighter I really can’t see it. I want to know if I can make it lighter to see it ?
Hi. Love your channel! Could you please tell me what the stand is you are using? Also is it a charging stand and does it cope with the weight of an iPhone 14 PM? Many thanks 😊
May I know what is the point of having standby mode if the display is not always on? It needs to be on so we can glance at the display to see the information displayed right?
How do you change the time zone for the clock time that is displayed in standby mode? My phone clock is accurate but the clock in standby mode is 3 hours earlier.
There is a glitch with my standby mode where I cannot access the color options on the large clock faces, and I have no idea how to fix it, and apparently apple help doesn’t either.
Love your videos. I noticed an issue when I have the phone on white noise app overnight and hit snooze while in standby mode. After I hit snooze and wait the 9 minutes, it clicks but no alarm. Any info on this?
Great video. Currently on the road, and forgot my charger. This deffo made me go for a desk-charger who also can be used as a travel charger, like the Anker Cube, instead of either Mophie 3in1 or Belkin 3in1 for just the one of two use cases.
I have found that the Nightstand mode randomly resets to factory settings overnight, so although it is brilliant, for me it’s not had all the bugs ironed out yet 😢
Wish it didn't have to be plugged into power for it to work, it means that people will leave it on charge more just for that feature meaning faster battery wear.
I wish Standby worked without being plugged in, it's a great little user interface!

A great feature I was previously unaware of. Would be useful to see if you can dim the display if it’s going to be by my bed - also, will the notifications mute if i have the sleep function on?
Does not work when u change time zone
This will be very handy on ipad. Which ipad support it?
The clock feature is very nice as a nightstand device, but seeing the other features with UI unique to this mode (like setting a timer or the new Siri interface) really turns your phone into a home-hub type device akin to Google Home or Alexa devices with built-in screens. I hope they eventually expand some of these features to iPads too, because that would give them so much extra functionality when not in use!
Great. I have now turned my $1200 phone into a $10 night clock.
@@oldmech619..the advantage:
You then turn your $10 night clock into your $1,200 phone.
This is a feature that i was craving years ago when i had an iPhone before! So glad they decided to go this route.
idk if im just dumb but....can you only select an analog clock from the first view? like I want the first view with the two widgets on both side, but I want a digital clock!!!
Is there any app which can be used instead of Truecaller as the same does not support iPhone
Looks interesting. I wonder if there are any negative long term battery life implications.
One or two issue passcode and Face ID. Issue is simple pass code, face at
night (move cradle for Face ID etc.)?
Thank You: very good(old but learning)
Does it not gonna affect the iPhone battery cycles as we are pugging in to the charger/wireless charger continuously
Hi.. it works on 13 pro max but turns off after sometime ..
So you are saying that it doesn’t work because I don’t have always on display ?
Doesn’t work the same with iPhone 12 where there is no always on option so irritatingly it goes to sleep. Is there anyway to fix this?
I like the feature and when night mode is enabled the display has red figures however. The display is reasonably bright to start but then goes very dim and almost unreadable. Pity Apple don't give you ability to make brighter
Okay, thank you very much indeed for that video. Very useful however when in bed and using the standby mode and I want to then listen to the radio or listen to some music how do I disable this to get back to my iPhone home screen and use the apps that it displays, I can’t seem to get this to work
The time is set wrong. can that be changed without changing the clocks look?
Standby works perfectly on my 14 pro max when I am plugged in with lightning cable. But screen turns off, when I use the Belkin stand. ?
But what is that nifty little white stand you are using? It’s not on your list of desk kit.
Thanks. This was great. The only caveat I found is if I go to a story from news, let's say, it doesn't go back to standby mode when I close it. Any ideas?
Both my 13 Pro Max and 14 Pro Max will NOT rotate screen.
Both updated to 17.0.2
‘Rotate Lock’ is OFF in Control
NO rotation on iPhone.
‘Rotate’ works perfect on my iPads, from ancient ipad gen5 to 2022 Pro 12.9.
Please can you do a video with the new contact poster feature.. it just doesn’t work 😰 all we get is grey screens no matter what we do .. one 11pro max and one 14 pro .. both on 17.0.2
I think Standby mode is the highlight of IOS17. Love the channel. Better than Apple support youtube channel itself.
Hello, know if I can darken the brightness of the clock in standby mode ? Just a little to light
I have an iPhone 13, is there a way to stop the standby display from gone off every few minutes?
I cannot get this to work. Is it only for 14 nd 15 models. I still have a iPhone 11. upgrade to iOS 17 wokr=ed great however.
Can I just ask what you use to edit your videos? They are so well presented!
Where did you get that fabulous charger, please?
How do you change the time zone for the clock time that is displayed in standby mode? My phone clock is accurate but the clock in standby mode is 3 hours earlier.
So how the standby will work for iPhone 14plus??
Can we fully disable the photo section? I just want to swipe between widgets and clock
My iPhone (14 Pro) does not fully charge at night when I use there clock (68%). Without the clock, no problem to 100%.
I have Standby mode enabled and a few widgets, the phone is on a power source but still no rotation. I'm a bit lost now... hmm
Great video. Currently on the road, and forgot my charger. This deffo made me go for a desk-charger who also can be used as a travel charger, like the Anker Cube, instead of either Mophie 3in1 or Belkin 3in1 for just the one of two use cases.
Nice vid, love your presentation style. Quick question-I simply can’t get standby to show? Can you advise?
I have found that the Nightstand mode randomly resets to factory settings overnight, so although it is brilliant, for me it’s not had all the bugs ironed out yet 😢
I thought this was only happening to me. I had all my widgets set, and then the next day random widgets were added back. It really hurts the value.
Wish it didn't have to be plugged into power for it to work, it means that people will leave it on charge more just for that feature meaning faster battery wear.
Impact on battery life?
