NOTE: I call the abilities of the Legion founders "inborn", forgetting that Lightning Lad's powers were given to him by an incident. NOTE: I mention the Seven Soldiers and Shining Knight separately, but I know that he is on the team. When referring to Shining Knight individually, I mean him from medieval times, before he was frozen and awoken to the future.
Besides the idea that "there will be good people in the world", I think the Legion also represents the idea of "finding your self-worth". Just look at legionnaires like Brainiac 5 (the descendant of Brainiac, one the most iconic DC villains) or Bouncing Boy and the Legion of the Substitute heroes (all have weird powers that seem to be useless). All are people no one expect to become heroes and making a difference but thanks to Legion and what they inspire in others, all these characters found their place and their own potential to be heroes.
@@ourmidnightgarden Same. I always felt some of the Legion rules were unfair, like not allowing members with no powers (i guess they never heard of Batman or Green Arrow), or were hypocritical like not allowing members with same powers as others when three of their members are Superboy, Supergirl and Mon-El, who all have the same powers. This is why I love the Substitue, since they just said "we don't need the Legion recognition, we are going to be heroes on our own".
Exactly. The exploiting of the rule against duplicating powers always bugged me that same way (although I appreciate the idea of keeping the powers on the team varied, and I wish other teams like the JLA would try to do that too). Like they would allow Ultra Boy and Mon-El together on the team all the time, when Ultra Boy is basically just Mon-El who can only use one power at a time, so not only does he lack unique powers but he's basically just an inferior version of Mon-El. I like the Subs for the same reason. And some of them are seemingly on par or better than certain Legion members. e.g. Polar Boy seems like a far more useful member to me than Light Lass! I also remember reading a story about Night Girl from the Subs teaming up with Shadow Lass -- and it boggles the mind that those two are kept apart on different teams! Shadow Lass provides darkness so Night Girl can be powerful. You'd think those two would be an inseparable combo.
The Legion is one the DC hero teams I really hope shows up in James Gunn's DCU. They would fit perfectly well with the fun wacky style Gunn puts on his projects (as seen in Suicide Squad and Peacemaker). Plus it would be awesome to see their interaction with Corenswet's Superman. I could easly see Clark's legion ring being establish as an ester egg in Superman 2025 (there could even be a scene in which one of Clark's friend ask where Clark got the ring, and he just says it was a gift from " friends from far away")

That's a nice idea. I always feel so bad for the Legion applicants who get rejected. The Substitute team is awesome.

You just made me a Legion fan.
That's the height of compliment to me, thanks so much :)
Really love your bite sized, but still really refreshing to listen to vids.
I’ve always loved the Legion of Superheroes and hope one day they get their spotlight. They absolutely deserve it.
Me too! I hope they someday catch on somehow and click with audiences to become big.

As a guy in my twenties, I find the legion’s headquarters being called a “clubhouse” to be charming.
As someone closing in on 30, you're never too old to entertain your inner child.
@@KirbyLinkACW I agree
Great video! Just now discovering your channel, but as a longtime fan of the Legion, you officially have a new subscriber! Long Live the Legion!!!!!
Thank you so much! Wonderful to hear from another Legion fan :)
Mister Rodgers showed me kindness was key and I show people online how to be kind as well
Good video, a fresh outlook on comic book review in youtube
My introduction to the legion of superheroes was the kids WB animated series that ran for two seasons.
💜🙏🏽
I never like it when writers try to erase Superman from the legion.
I've always been interested in the comic but DC makes it impossible.
