I dig this. I think the extra commentary from the cameraman is a bit distracting and I think my favorite part of watching Backrooms videos is the sense of isolation, so hearing the characters talk sort of makes me feel like I'm listening to a video game character gently nudge me to follow the tutorial arrows haha. I also wish the fov was a lot wider because it's hard to get a sense of scale when I can only see 10% of the room at one time. Really cool concept, though. I'm glad "poolrooms" has become a genre of its own.
The monologuing doesn't bother me that much. Be honest, if it happened to you irl *without knowing about the backrooms* you'd be all "wtf where am I is anyone there" just like anyone else including me, and I have Asperger's and don't react like most people to sudden changes. What does bug me is the tendency for the camera (in most backrooms videos, not just this one) to gaze lovingly on the detailed rendering the creator worked so hard on. I mean it's understandable considering the effort involved and all, but making the environment a character (like say the various Enterprises in the Star Trek universe) is *hard*. The environment is the background of a story otherwise. The story in the backrooms universe is how people react to a liminal environment that has all the elements of real world environments but those elements aren't arranged in the patterns of the real world. Human minds are pattern matching machines, and this kind of environment fucks with us on a level most people never think about.
Oh, man, i'm glad this is animated. If it happened to me, i'd also start yelling ''Hello?'' ''Anybody there?'' And no answer, and i'd start bawling my eyes out, because i'd start feeling lonely.
