Looking forward to experiencing Maine snow and winter vicariously through your channel this year! Hope to be there next year. The process you lay out makes sense to me. Reminds me to be mindful of snow processing when creating a homestead layout.
Hi Jim! If you want to experience it first hand…you can come shovel some of this snow! 😂 We are getting more late this week. Last I heard 3-5”. If you are in the area next year please reach out! We’d love to see you! Our first year was a big learning experience with all the snow. You have to stay on top of it or it will bite you! Take care and have a great week!!
We really used to get blizzards, feet of snow, my bus showed up with chains on tires often. Now I don't shovel, just wait for it to rain. I miss the storms that bring feet of snow, shut society down, bombing down streets on my ATV to pick up friends. A peaceful Martial law feeling.
@HanbleceyaRanch Maine is likely the best choice for global warming! This is just a trend, a 20 year high/low weather pattern. Another 10 years and we will see cooling again. Enjoy the weather now! Hope you love Maine!!
It's crazy how just about everywhere east of here has been dumped on. We have a dusting and can still see the grass. My snowblowers are getting bored! LOL You guys out east are having all the fun.
When I was younger (in the 70s) I remember there being deeper snowfalls.I had a ball on my car antenna. That was to find it in the snow. Had to jump from 2nd floor once. Door was buried.
awesome beginning with the dogs enjoying the snow. kinda surprised ya didnt get more snow. but this wet heavy crap and cold week now. ugh, not amusing. nice job on the hat. maybe 4 inches here in vassalboro.
The dogs LOVE the snow! Our middle one would stay outside till his feet froze off if we let him! We thought we’d get more too. I enjoy learning new things and knitting those hats is definitely new! Keeps me busy in the winter (along with the chunky blankets and other things I make). Gonna be getting more snow here Thursday-Friday. Hopefully not too much…we have a craft fair on Saturday and don’t want the weather to mess that up! Have a great night!😊
Hi Jason n Jen, Hey it was good to see ya to Jen! I was one that ask about your whole yard being cleared, I couldn’t comprehend why the whole yard and not just lots of good Wide paths to every building, but I see now what ya mean. It makes sense once you showed us and explained the why! Thx by the way for that. Shew you guys stay safe Warm and God Bless. Really nice hat Jason, good job Jen. ❤
Hi Pam!👋 We should have known it was you! 😉 Hope all is well with you and things are going good! One of our subscribers suggested I try knitting a hat and I really enjoy doing it. Been making some to give as gifts. Had to switch back to the chunky yarn and start on a custom blanket today. Keeping busy and staying warm! It was great to hear from you! Hope you have a great week. Stay safe and God bless!♥️🙏♥️
Thank you; this is very informative. I was hoping a UTV with a plow could handle a lot of the snow, so I thought I would start out that way. I imagine the UTV with plow will be cheaper than the tractor.
A UTV can be cheaper than a tractor, but in some cases the tractor is cheaper. Some manufacturers are selling with 0 down and no interest for 5 years. Weigh out your needs: what is the vehicle gonna be used for, maintenance, gas...etc. Research and planning save sooo much money!
I’m watching you clear snow, and looking out the window and it’s snowing and blowing like crazy here. I shovelled my roof last night.. took nearly 2hrs. About 4ft of snow.. compacted.. the first 1ft was wet heavy snow.. rain is coming in a few days here. Only seem to have a few days if that between storms here in Muskoka , Ontario.. I push the snow back as far as possible.. who knows what winter will be like . Maybe next year we’ll get chickens .
Stay warm and safe out there. We had another 5” today!! You got a lot of snow. That wet heavy stuff is the worst!! Have to bring the chickens warm water at least twice a day right now. It keeps freezing. I also make them some warm oatmeal….they are spoiled. 😊
@ Oatmeal for the chicken’s for breakfast .. yes , they sound spoiled.. but happy chickens = eggs .. lol I was thinking of building a coop that will stay above freezing.. My neighbours have chickens , but their birds don’t lay many eggs over the winter. I keep warm plowing , I use a Suzuki grand Vitara , v6 5 speed.. filled the back with firewood.. for added traction .
I love having down to earth people coming to Maine! Suggestion about parking vehicles, especially off grid/rural. Go ahead and back in your vehicles into your parking spot: easier to pull out in deep snow with plow or tractor; you are not gonna automatically get stuck when you pull out; that backing up in place beforehand saves time in the long run; it's easier to add implements this way; most tractors exhaust from the front...this way it goes outside the enclosure rather than you breathing it in when you start up. Keep on plowing!!😁
We got couple inches then 8 last storm. Looks like 3/5 here Wednesday night in Embden. Keep it cleaned up. Which is a double edged sword on gravel lol. Always some grading going on unintentionally 😂 Packing the road is the way to go especially if it’s normal and cold. Always a crap shoot this time of year ! Hope you and Jen had a happy turkey day ! Take care Jason
More is coming here Thursday. We wanted to grade the yard anyways!😂 Winter and packing the road for a good base layer makes our road such a smooth ride. Crap shoot now and early spring. Never know what you will get…warmer temps in the daytime and freezing at night makes it rough. Hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving! 😊
@ yeah I can see how that would definitely happen … living in town with a small driveway I don’t get too excited .. although I didn’t think it was going to freeze up as bad as it did so now I’m kinda screwed for the time being 🤣
I recently found your channel, and have been enjoying your content. Like how you’re thinking about removing your snow off your lot. The saying, an ounce of prevention is a worth a pound of cure. Something else to think about is placement of your snow piles and to avoid blocking any gates, as well as putting your piles in a place to make it easier to move in the future. Making sure you don’t have to move them multiple times. A little extra time spent on moving a pile a little bit more saves you later. Especially if it freezes solid.. an attachment that you might find a valuable is either a snow pusher or a hydraulic blade for the front loader. There are keyboard warriors that argue argument about loading forces on the loader frame. But watching you operate shows me that You’re not abusing your equipment. Curious to why you haven’t put some sort of cab on the tractor? Cost? Or are you like me the cold doesn’t bother me while I’m plowing. Lol. I really liked your v blade you built. Simple but effective!! Another thought for those of us thinking of homesteading, breakdown some of your costs, expand on your topics a little more. Just my 2 cents. Keep them coming.
Welcome to our channel! Great ideas! I agree, those are some things I need to think about. At this point though we’ve found it’s not so much of a burden to move the snow the way we are, but that’s not to say we won’t get more efficient as time goes on. The reason we don’t have a cab is two fold, first the cost and second we do plan to upgrade in a few years. I couldn’t justify the cost on this tractor. Thank you for the kind words and we appreciate the feedback! 😊
Here in the Farmington area we got about 8 inches of the heavy wet snow. It brought evergreen limbs down, which was sad. And now the snow has turned to concrete.....I much prefer the light fluffy stuff. At least we don't live in the great lakes region, where they got feet, not inches. Fluff or not, it's a lot of snow!
Completely agree on liking the fluffy stuff. That heavy wet snow does more damage than the fluffy stuff (plus the dogs love the fluffy stuff). We have been pretty lucky compared to others! Have a great night! Oh…I hate the ice!!
🤣 We have been looking…for land that is! Would love to have him be our neighbor! We will put our matchmaking hats on and get after that. So truck is a must…got it! 😂
You folks continue to impress me with your "umph". For "newbies" you're doing mighty fine off grid. I'm seriously impressed.
We really appreciate that. Means a lot coming from you! Have a great night!
The hat….yea….i like it!
Good stuff folks!!
It keeps the head warm on those cold Maine days! 😄 Thanks for watching!
Beautiful and good job with the chickens 🐔
Thank you! This being our first winter with them we are doing what we can to keep them happy and healthy! 🐓
Love watching your videos ❤ Have a great day!
Thank you! We appreciate you watching! Have a great night! 😊♥️

@@noturbizz1we did not get the chance to experience those types of winters. We did have a few in Illinois but not many!!

@@noturbizz1we LOVE it here! The landscape, the people….all of it!!♥️
Your train of thought is spot on. Getting that base layer set is a must.
Our road is like a super highway in the winter. Smooth ride. Then spring comes….🤪

New to your channel the snow looks great. Thank you.😄☕
So glad you found us! Kick back and enjoy the ride! Have a great night!😊

We’ve heard similar stories from the locals. Despite having good snow removal equipment, I’m not sure we’d handle snow to the roof 😂
@@HanbleceyaRanch sure you would. I have no doubt.
I do believe this was in "78"
@@CharlesFlanagan-s7wthanks! 👍 We experienced that blizzard in Illinois. Shut down the whole city!!
Nice clean up!
Thanks!♥️
Y'all certainly got a few more inches than we did. Howdy from a neighbor about 2 hours south of you who recently came across the channel.
So happy to hear you found us! We are going to be getting more on Thursday. Hoping not too much. Have a great night!😊
And so it begins, did good job cleaning up that white stuff. 😊
It has begun. More tomorrow! 😊

Nice job ... we have been 80F for the last couple of days will be in the mid 70's the rest of the week
Thanks! Those temps sound like summer!😂

Looks like we're getting another foot tomorrow. Good luck my to you.

UTV was cheaper and it handles most of cleaning up. It has been a lifesaver!
Love your channel too! I have learned so much from HR!
@@elfwoodadventures2103 lower payments is not necessarily cheaper. In my opinion being debt free is far more important than a new tractor.
Looking great. It’s cold enough for snow here but dry.
Thanks!!😊 Was a balmy 10° this morning. Suns out now so it should warm up. Gonna get another 3-5° Thursday!!🥶
lived in the adirondack mts most of my life believe me you are doing things right, keep it up your doing fine the hell with the nay sayers

We have been hit pretty good here too at our place, it's been snowing off and on for 3 days. It's hard to stay ahead of it.

Oh…I hate the ice!!
We do not plow when the ground has not frozen unless absolutely necessary! We tread it down. It does get icy but that's what the sand is for.
With this deep freeze we thought it best to get it out while we could. Sand and ash is your friend!!😉
I live in Maine. It just snowed and we didn't shovel anything because it just rains and melts within days... Boo.
Ours typically hangs around but this last storm took it all away!!
😲👍💞

What year tractor is it and how much did it cost?
Our Kioti CX2510 is a 2022 and if memory serves, with the snowblower and tire chains it was ~$25k.
Liked the hat but you stopped wearing it?
