      This the Price of organic eggs => hens outside mot part of the Time, no chemical medecines , only plants the Farmers grows themselfs.
      *** Of course in ordinary supermarket the Price is less expensive : 1,43€ for 6 eggs.

      In Turkey, price for 12 eggs: $1.3 for medium, $1.8 for large eggs, from local farms. Supermarket prices for standard eggs are similar.

    My wife and I had 148 chickens for years. We were able sell all of our eggs to a local business (yes, we had an egg handlers permit--an extra $20 a year) We were able to offset all of our feed expenses (about $200 a month), pay for our bag of dog food (about $50 a month), and keep and dole out about 4 dozen eggs for us and family. A lot of quiches! And a ton of fun...

    6 bucks a dozen, I feed my chickens all kitchen scraps and food plus their own egg shells. With six chickens I get about 35-42 eggs a week, with a family of three we spend 18 dollars a month on feed, we eat around 18 eggs a week and sell the rest for 2-3 dollars for 12. We usually get enough money to cut our cost of 60 eggs a month that we eat for around 10 bucks which means we’re are saving around 14 bucks a month. But it’s great for our kids to know where the eggs are coming from and the taste is so much better with free range birds

    Chickens are great! We have a Rooster though, because he will not only protect the flock from any predators, but will also help keep the hens in order.

    $8 for a free range dozen here in MD. Ive been considering raising chickens for a few years, but specially for chicken poo. Perhaps its time to bite the bullet. If you calculate the compost they help create, it's definitely worth the investment! Thanks for the tips.

    Eggs here are between $4.78-$9 in grocery stores. I sell mine for $4 and still loose money. Good breakdown Yes feed skyrocketed and you forgot to add oyster shells and bedding to it. I also give mine mealworms during cooler months that bugs are scarce that also doubled in price

      Feed your chickens the shells crushed up with kitchen scraps. Chickens only need about 1/2 a cup of food a day. They will eat and I eat if you give them more which they do not need.

    Eggs are between $5 and $12 here in Southern Indiana. I'm getting chickens again very soon. It'll still take six months but that's okay. I'm vegetarian as well (meat allergy) so I'm not sure what I'll do once they get older. But I haven't had chickens in 15 years so I'm having to relearn everything.

    I see you keep duck or ducks? We used to raise both chickens and ducks, but noticed that our ducks were jerks, aggressive towards the chickens. All they did was make messes of the food and water containers. We had to separate them and that was just too much of a hassle. We re-homed them to our in-laws and they produced eggs for which they loved. Hope all well and you guys are back normal after all the rains. Happy gardening 2023!

    • @DaisyCreekFarms
      @DaisyCreekFarms  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yes, I have 2 ducks, used to have 10, gave 8 to a friend who has a pond because i did not have a pond back then. They do make a mess of the water. However we raised these from ducklings and handled them everyday so they are very nice and gentle ducks.

    Interesting, here in Austin, things are still OK with eggs. Thanks for the wonderful and much needed content. I always wanted to have chickens for eggs, compost and for the cuteness :), but they are not permitted per our HOA. HOAs are on the stricter side around Austin area restricting many things.

    Great and informative video!
    They have more than doubled here in Utah! Funny enough, our grocery store has plenty of eggs, but I think that is because they are @$8 for 18. And I wouldn’t mind raising some chickens, but I have a dog who has killed critters before and I would hate to have her get in there and do some damage. Yes, I could keep them safe, but there might be a lack of vigilance and would hate to have them perish because I looked away for a moment.

    My family has 4 hens (and a rooster) and though I don't think they're cared for nearly as well as you care for your hens, we get about 2-3 eggs per day - assuming they're fetched before the hen(s) accidentally squash them. Question: How do you address predators? Despite having a rooster, there is a hawk that keeps flying by in the hopes of snatching a chicken.
