To answer Y2K's question, if you buy a PS5 slim that has the disc drive, yes, you need an internet connection to sync it to the system. It's not already done out of the box like the bigger/fatter PS5, which can still be set up without ever going online.
I’ve recently returned to collecting physical gaming media and consoles. I agree the jump from PS4 to PS5 is the weakest jump in all PlayStation consoles. Especially if you had a PS4 Pro. I’m having a blast playing PS3 and PS4 games lately. Great video!!
I bought the PS4 when the PS5 camd out as I'm not that big of a gamer and wanted to play a few PlayStation titles. The controller unfortunately got stick drift as the console was second hand, but I've got a lot of games left to play. Great video.
I also think people who have a ps4 and thinking about getting a ps5 should focus on games that give you a free ps5 upgrade. This is noted on the box at the bottom. I did this with the first Alan wake so I can get 2 versions at a cheaper price.
PS5 is going to go down as a lower tier system in the lineage of PlayStation consoles. Theirs been some good games but I think when we look back we will all say the PS4 lifespan was better then the PS5'S. Theirs a few games where the graphics did make me say wow but many games look like their running on a PS4. They were smart to add backwards compatibility this time around as they don't always do that with their systems.
I understand this sentiment because the many of the games are also playable on ps4. The era of bespoke console technology is over. That that will be the case going forward unless there is a cpu demand last gen can't meet like Dragons dogma2, Spacemarines 2, Spiderman 2 e.t.c. Even with Nintendo this will be the case. Ever since the move to x86 architechture scalability in development is extremely streamlined. PC graphics cards from 2010 are still playing AAA games from 2024. Mark my words, we will be half way through the switch 2 life and most of the games will still be playable on Switch 1.
One word. Performance. 3D games on consoles have been stuck at 30fps for over 20 years. PS5 gives you the option of 30 to up to 120 fps. That's literally 4x the performance boost. The ps4 pro is still a 30fps console. I bought PS4 pro in hopes of games having the option for dynamic 1080p for a 60fps target and regreted my purchase later on. The PS4 pro is no where close to PS5. I spec'd my pc to ps4pro settings and tried running Rift apart like digital foundry and got hilarious results
Im over 500 games now for the ps4. It's an insane collection. You can erase most of your retro collections with all the rereleases. You also have to supplement some emulator for several titles but the amount of retro releases is insane. With ps5 i think 90 percent of bases will be covered eventually. I love it. Best system. Wild ps4 finds are super rare since the end of 2023 tho. I maybe picked up like 10 games in the wild this year. Alot is new releases, gamestop, and ebay.
Even the slims with prepackaged disc drive must be registered when you factory reset the console. This is why when i do probably years down the road get a ps5 ill get the original.
I highly doubt at that time that any of the PS5's aren't supported officially none of them will work. You'll have to go to the modders who release firmware to run.
@ by that time, i will have jailbroken the console, and dumped all my disc games, like right now, is the best time to buy a ps4, as many on the market are under 11.0 firmware and can have games dumped now to futureproof failing bluray drives. I dont care about server lifetime. In 20 years i may want to hook up the console without wifi in a cabin. With that drive im SoL
PS4 has an amazing library of games and the best part is you can get most titles for $2-5 each. Now and yesterday has been the time to collect for it. I think the PS5 is absolutely worth it. It took a long time of 4 years to finally get good games for it, but then again I have never been an early adopter.
I've had a PS5 from release date & sold it a few years after due to me not playing it as much & got bored of it too. Used that money to jumped back to a PS4 slim & having a better time with it even in 2025 over the PS5. Ya it's a 4K system but then again... I'm not big on 4k at the moment anyway.
I'm still buying ps4 copies over ps5 copies if they are available. I would rather have a game that can play on multiple consoles and in most cases has a free ps5 upgrade anyway or it's cheap to upgrade
The value in a PS5 is that it can cover 2 generations and plays those PS4 games better. Anyone buying a PS4 is eventually going to want a PS5 so why not consolidate for the more efficient of the two options?
I can see the argument there, but I've already had a PS4 sitting around for like 8 years. May as well just hold on a few more years until the PS5 drops even further.
@ if you’re already rocking a PS4 then yeah no rush but the framing of this video was buying into the ecosystem. Everyone kind of assumes that price will drop but it’s not a guarantee anymore with the global economy and the conversion rates. Even switch hasn’t dropped in price yet.
@@FabuBrik yea. The PS5 Slim IS currently on sale this holiday (disc is $425 - $75 off). It would be drastic to see it reduced much further this year without something to take its place.
Ps4 pro is close but ps5 has better framerates, loading times, resolution and also has the haptic feedback controller which is pretty sweet to use. I was skeptical about the ps5 at first but i bought a disc drive slim last week and its dope. I wouldn't wait for a ps6 because we don't even know if the ps6 will have a disc drive
How can you say "comes close" and then say better framerates and better resolution? Go look up the DF video of a pc spec'd to match ps4 pro running rift apart.its unplayable. Games are, largely, double the resolution and frame rates. How is that "close"? Ps4 Pro also has an anemic cpu by comparison making it impossible for games like Dragons dogma 2 to run on it. We are talking a 1.8 Tflop machine vs 10.5. 8gb of ram vs 16. "Close" is objectively false.
@@grizzlybearking1878 This is in regards to PS5 running PS4 games better. There's no way for a PS4 to run PS5 games (even a PC spec'd similar) because they weren't designed to run that way.
If you pop a PS4 copy of a game in a Pro and the same game in the PS5 if the devs didn't go in and create a PS5 'update' version you are getting the same experience.
Personally I don't mind being a generation behind. Being raised in the PS1 era, PS4 load times don't really bother me either. Combine that with a huge PS4 backlog, and the fact that they're still releasing new games for it...then yea. I just look at the PS5 and think, man I could buy 10-20 PS4 games with that money...
I didn't think the PS5 was that much of an upgrade; especially after putting SSD in PS4 pro. It came out a terrible time economically 2020 that shifted people's priorities / spending ability, bad distribution, lot of people still had backlog of games from previous gen in 2020, and I still don't feel like they have a console defining title(s) yet to make people desire it enough. Tekken 8 made me kind of consider buying one, but feels like they hit the ceiling on that game already previously. The new Monster Hunter Wilds makes me feel it too though. If on initial release PS5 was easy to get I probably would have got one, but I found other hobbies. Maybe when it's $300 or below for disc I'd go for it.
Your point re: the gap between a PS5 vs. PS4 in terms of graphics capability and speed does not justify the gap between the COST when comparing the two. This made me think about computing in general. Unless your work / hobby requires a high speed, high capacity, graphically intensive computer, 99% of the population is perfectly OK with a computer that is like 5 years old (at least). At my work environment, we largely run on the Chrome OS now. It serves 99% of our needs. Certain staff members might need (prefer) a Windows or Mac computer. I myself has a Chromebox and a Windows PC, but 99% of the time, I use the Chromebox because that's what I need and the cost is ridiculously better for a small company to operate.

The PS5 and Xbox Series X are trying to compete with the PC master race. Whenever I check out the latest games for these consoles, it seems like they’re all about online play, which can be cut off at any moment or game with season pass. Major publishers are pouring hundreds of millions into these always-online games and incomplete buggy games, only to find that players aren’t interested in their pay-to-win models or playing game that break their experience.
