First off I want to say thank you to Hasan for having our governor on, I was so happy to see him interviewed. I personally voted for JB Pritzker, and would happily do so again. The only thing I wish he would do more of is try to win over the people in the southern part of the state. I live in southern Illinois, I am much closer to Kentucky than I am to Chicago, and the majority of people here don't feel seen or heard by our state government. Many people from the southern part of the state believe we should split the state into northern and southern Illinois because they truly believe the state government only cares about and listens to people in Chicago. I personally don't believe that, but it is very rare for the governor or anyone in high state office to travel to southern Illinois to speak or visit. It is very isolating to be a Democrat down here and it is exhausting trying to convince people who only watch fox news that our governor is actually doing great things for our state. So anyway, I guess my point was I wish he would spend more energy and time trying to connect with the people in the southern half of the state but I still really like him and am glad he's our governor.

No poor or even middle class person could have had the slightest hope of winning that race with only their own financing, but anyone with hundreds of millions at their disposal at least has a chance.

16:52 - 17:42 or go directly to 17:00 for the short answer. Yes, increase my taxes (Pritzker's) and for all wealthy people while lowering taxes for others… as Governor in Illinois.
I'm from "downstate" Illinois, and I don’t really call myself a Republican or Democrat. From what I’ve seen, Pritzker’s been pretty good for the state. Am I paying more in taxes? Hell yes, I am, and it’s a lot, but it seems necessary. He’s not perfect, but he’s doing a decent job.
I love this governor!! Why not use Illinois tax system for federal system?????? More money you make, more taxi pay less money, less, you make, you less!!! I like that system 😊
You're going to need a lot more enforcement, though. Some billionaires will likely want to keep all the money they make, so they'll ship it off to other countries that NEED billionaires investing in them or else it collapses. The IRS needs more funding and a further bolstering of its forces so that they can bust tax dodgers. THEN it can be useful.
Is the coalition of voters that would elevate someone like Pritzker (who hand checks) a coalition that could create a Congress politically able to eliminate the hand check? That would require a great deal of new comfort and trust in the perceived enemy of billionaires. We can either trust people willing to hand check that they will eliminate the rule when they win. Or we can wait for someone so good that they win without hand checking who will eliminate the rule.
I lived through these changes and had no idea where they came from. I just thought the world was progressing. He embodies the spirit of the Land of Lincoln. Well done, JB. Fight that good fight!!
15:20 Well hold on there, one of the candidates in that 2018 primary was Daniel Biss, who's also progressive, the middle-class candidate, and - unlike Pritzker - already had a decade of experience in state government. He was also a mathematician before he got into politics, which is very cool (we could use more scientists in government). Pritzker spent $70 million on the primary alone. How was Biss supposed to compete with that?
I am a current Illinois resident and still pay taxes there; however, I have not lived there for the last 22 years due to work. I plan to move back in the next 4-8 years. I have not followed state or county politics, but if Governor Pritzker is the way he seemed in this interview, I hope someone like him is in charge when I make it back.
So far I like this guy but I do think he’s coming off a bit defensive - Hasan is giving him a chance to respond to common or expected criticisms in a relatively low pressure situation, since the questions are real and substantive, but the tone is exaggerated and comedic. It’s a perfect environment for a politician to get to play the “straight man” and come off as reasonable and intelligent by just simply and casually stating their points. I’m getting the impression that Pritzker doesn’t “get” this type of interview - he’s responding to Hasan the way he’d respond to someone actually arguing with him. Probably because he’s used to that kind of environment, but here it’s just not a great strategic move. Other politicians have “gotten it” better in Hasan’s other interviews, or you could even look at Pete Butteigeig’s conversation with Hank Green, which was a slightly higher pressure situation since it was less comedic, but he still came off extremely intelligent and competent just by being calm and casual, even when he was rebutting Hank’s points or criticisms by others.

The first time I paid attention to politics was when trump won his bid to run in 2016. I saw this governor do amazing work in 2020. The minute he hates on Cheeto he won me over ..
That's our Gov❤
15:11 It bothers me that he keeps saying “well other billionaires ran and lost so I didn’t just win because of money”. Like babe the problem is that you need hundreds of millions of dollars now to even join the race. No poor or even middle class person could have had the slightest hope of winning that race with only their own financing, but anyone with hundreds of millions at their disposal at least has a chance.
He literally said he’s in favor to get big money out and change the system so that he wouldn’t have to spend hundreds of millions. Hasan even agreed. See time stamp from 10:00-15:00
This is the interview we all needed. Thank you Hasan!
Zip Recruiter ad. You say "back-slash" but the inscription reads "forward slash."
I would love if Hasan did a Corrections segment like Seth Meyers.
/ is a slash.
\ is a backslash.
Imagine a | walking through the text if it falls backwards \ it makes a backslash
I so love these episodes!
Never heard of this guy. I like him, gives good vibes.
Great guy, love his work.
I wish we had Gov Pritzker as our gov in AR!!! 😭😭😭😭 be thankful Illinois!!
We are! BJ really undersold how much of a nightmare his predecessor was. =(
16:52 - 17:42 or go directly to 17:00 for the short answer. Yes, increase my taxes (Pritzker's) and for all wealthy people while lowering taxes for others… as Governor in Illinois.
Great job. P.S. Hasan, it's called a forward slash, not a backslash in your ZIP recruiter ad. (Programmer PTSD)
Thanks Pritzker, for being a decent governor. I'm from Michigan but I'm glad the Great Lakes have good governorship protecting them.
Those white snickers and socks are so original.
MY GOAT JB
Is the coalition of voters that would elevate someone like Pritzker (who hand checks) a coalition that could create a Congress politically able to eliminate the hand check? That would require a great deal of new comfort and trust in the perceived enemy of billionaires. We can either trust people willing to hand check that they will eliminate the rule when they win. Or we can wait for someone so good that they win without hand checking who will eliminate the rule.
I'm so glad I found this show.
Hilarious and informative content. Keep it up, Hasan!
I lived through these changes and had no idea where they came from. I just thought the world was progressing. He embodies the spirit of the Land of Lincoln. Well done, JB. Fight that good fight!!
Can't believe im going to say this but I'd vote for that billionaire. lol
Biss lost because he fumbled his lieutenant governor pick and got limited union support. The race was for his to lose.
Pritzger has been the best governor we’ve had in my long lifetime…I’m still amazed that he managed to cure us of the terminal Rauner disease.
I lost it at the Succession comparisons.

He's low-key been one of the best Governors Illinois has ever had.
Hopefully in the not too distant future, President Pritzker.
One of the best things about the 2024 election is all of the progressive leaders from around the country that i didnt know about before. Pritzker being one of them.
Thank you for my drugs, now please lower zoning laws, so I can actually afford a home.
15:55 - He's talking about Richie, not Carmy.
Super Cool!!
That's my governor! 😅
what are the odds that two comedians have a podcast with two billionaire politicians and release them within the span of 2 days
Interview Lue Elizondo next.
Get Ta-nehisi Coates on this show please!
Perfect timing for my uno reverse card
Hasan was kinda rude. The governor was very nice
Fun fact: we'll never if trump is/was rich 8 years ago since we're still waiting for his tax papers...
Weird that's not a topic anymore
Huge Wealth inequality is a threat to Democracy
Capitalism is incompatible with democracy
9 19... It's not about the money, it's about what people do with it. It's about greed and if the wealthy are willing to draw that line in the sand and say enough is enough.
I am glad overall that Pritzker is our governor. I would absolutely vote for him to serve a third term. However, Pritzker cutting the Local Government Distributive Fund (LGDF) from 10% to < 6.5% is why local governments have had to increase the tax burden on their constituents. I wish that Governor Pritzker would ease the burden on local governments thus ease the burden on Illinois taxpayers.
Only issue i hv with this amazing video..8s hasan saying stroh isn't getting hand checked now.. its like hasan stopped watching ball since 2015.. steph is literally rhe most fouled on player in the league.
Dony let jj n his hate get to u hadan..we believe in u
he has NO CASH in his wallet?! insane
my only criticism of JB pritzker is that he needs wider lapels on his jacket
Hasan's ones are CLEAN!
13 47........... The only way to keep money in politics is to limit how much can be spent. 1 Mill? 5 Mill? 50 Mill? Will that be set in stone or will lobbyists fight to raise the limit or will billionaires bribe politicians to raise the limit? As long as money is in politics, nothing will be set in stone.
Damn how did Hasan not show JB Jordan's pic in that good/bad billionaire segment?
He has been an amazing billionaire for Illinois
This man is very smart. Good leader
12:30 Hasan has wasted a lot of time so far
This guy has called his state a model for the party's success; littered to this day with sundown towns, Chicago math scores at less than 18%, city was laden with asylum seekers and gang members while cop budgets slashed.
He inherited his wealth: he may have increased his taxes out of need to do so, effort to get reelected or garner favor amid skepticism. If he said he may go to prison, there may just be a reason.
"/" is a slash not a backslash hasan
29 15....... I'm curious why Warren Buffet wasn't in that pile.
You are amazing 🙏
my new political HERO. Go JB which used to be my initials
