You are very welcome mate. Least I could do. Please don't feel obligated in any way. Videos take ages. I reckon they make a repair 4 or 5 times longer lol. I for one appreciate all the work you put into this channel and your Discord is full of really nice people. Don't let the bastards get you down. Your channel is an oasis in a crazy world lol.
You adjust the spring tension on the monitor arm via the screw you can see when you push down on it. Adjust it until it just holds the monitor up at any height you choose.
I was just checking if anyone else had already commented on this, yes the hex head which is revealed when pushing down the arm is a pre-tensioner so you can get the monitor to float and be easily movable. I too wondered what the hell was going on when I first encountered this as it's not obvious until completely assembled with the monitor on the arm, and even then you have to be looking for it... 😆
I stumbled across a Dell W1900 monitor from early 2000's. It's the perfect retro screen with built in speakers, 15Khz support, VGA, DVI, RF input, 2 component RGB inputs, and even has picture-in-picture so you can do whacky stuff like dual screen a commodore 128 on the same screen. It's a gem.
Can't imagine tackling that with an iron now. Solder paste and hot air would be my choice. Enjoy seeing the components aligning themselves through the oven door. Also enjoy making Mylar stencils with the laser cutter - fun process.
That absolute unit roll of solder! My days that's awesome. I remember buying my 1st soldering iron as a kid from the local market. Cost a whopping £4, and a quid for a tube of solder. And that old solder smell, yup proper rosin, look how much of the stuff plumes off of your iron when you start using it. That's what I'd call "proper multicore rosin flux solder", the new stuff is nothing like. Like putting a full stop in the middle of a stick of rock instead of several of them around the near perimeter. Oh, the +/- part of the stand, typically, there's a spring loaded "clutch" for want of a better word, that you should be able to adjust with the allen bolt (when you lower the arm in your vid you can see the bright bolt), its function is to allow you to change the stiffness of the mount, for differing monitor weights, when you have it "just so" you should be able to raise or lower the monitor with little effort :) Nice vid, iirc the ST has an even more awkward horizontal rate than the Amiga, regardless, now I have to listen to Wings of Death OST, again.
I love your channel. Been following you since at least 2015. Happy to support through patreon. I've learned so much from you over the years. It feels like when I pay through patreon im paying for lessons on youtube lol.
That mark on the monitor is likely either a water mark or finger print on the diffuser layer inside the screen, not the easiest to dismantle and clean but it can be done! Keep up the good work, and i thoughly enjoy watching your videos.
Hey, regarding "markings" on the monitor you've got - fixed similar on my LCD I use for retro stuff by gently heating affected spots with hot air station set to ~130°C. Need to be really careful though not to melt plastic. Heating area at first made it worse probably due to the phase change liquid crystals experienced but then after cooling down darker spots were mostly gone. Repeated the treatment two or three times and it was nearly perfect. You might want to give it a try. Alternative would be to simply use this monitor a lot and wait - probably spots will fade out to non-visible as time goes on.
If you want to reduce the effect of interlace, try using a genlock and feed it with a good quality video signal (maybe from a dvd player) I had to make s splitter that split out the RGB before it went to the genlock (back in the day I used the bbc). This worked because the Amiga does interlaced video badly. it would do 313/312 lines where as proper interlaced video is 312.5 / 0.5+312.
85X is the EIA-96 code for a 75 ohm resistor. You find those codes sometimes on small SMD stuff. Can make it confusing at times whether you're looking at a code or the actual resistance value. Also, just wanted to say your videos have been a huge source of inspiration and encouragement for me while I've been working on a Sharp X68000 that's been devastated by battery leakage. I don't think I'd have had the courage to tackle a project like this if I hadn't seen the magic you worked on some of those horribly corroded Amiga and Archimedes boards!
Hi. Don’t think of it as someone giving you $1 on Patreon to make content; they’re giving you the dollar for content you’ve already made. Like going to a brick-and-mortar store, the goods are already there; you’re just buying them. Here, you’re the store that’s already made something (TH-cam videos), and people are paying for them on Patreon because they have value to them. 😊
You should make videos out of passion and when you feel like it so that its fun. It's not a job and should not be seen as a job, that would kill the fun and there's only so much you can do. Im always repairing or making things from scratch, and quite frankly I don't have have time or the urge to make videos. Hats off to those who do, but take it easy.
You'll be amazed what you can solder down with a nice stereo rework scope! Those 1608's will look like you're soldering down house bricks under magnification. And even I can manage 1005 parts with my useless hands. You'll make it look like childs play. 😆
Don’t get yourself down Chris. We wouldn’t be supporting you if we didn’t want to. Always enjoy the waffle and content. Don’t run yourself ragged. What do you think about Adrian retiring and going full time YT? Of course I wish him all the luck in the world but do worry about him having such a if channel that YT could shut down for any unknown reason without notice. He had this exact issue with his third channel and has also happens to several other big channels. I just think it's a risk relying on a 'google owned' platform.
You may well have already discovered that those who are relatively less well off are the ones who donate more to other causes, well out of proportion to what they can really afford. Looks like the VESA mount I have for my smaller Dell 1080p monitor. I probably have a Dell monitor stand in storage looking for a home if you might need it, and it fits your monitor 😀 That USB hub on the monitor is also very useful on occasions. Both of my Dells have USB 3 hubs.
@Gadgetuk these monitors are great. Yes you can plug in allsorts of 15khz computers/consoles. A1200 gives jailbars, but then they are funny compared to A500 etc. Dont bother buying the clip-in Dell speakers, they are a USB device so need Windows, you cannot just feed in a 3.5mm audio signal.
That's a great idea, except that you need a "dongle" that is the same size as the D connector (ie. they are all different sizes, depending on the number of pins). The only solution these days is to buy a 3D printed one I think - they are very uncommon this size of connector.
Jailbars are most likely because of RGB lines picking up noise from Sync. It could be your cable isn't properly shielded, or if not an Amiga, sometimes the sync or some other clock influences the RGB lines and a mod to the motherboard might be required (Megadrive and Neo Geo are examples of that).
@@GadgetUK164It there are supplies you need the it might be an easier way to get them donated Bonus is it's not necessary for you to give out a delivery address 🙂🤷♂️

Looks llike a great bit of kit. I'll use my Philips CM8833-II for now, until I can find a suitable monitor.

I have heard that those dark spots are caused by the light diffusers in the panel sticking together. You will have to take apart the panel to fix it.
I will have a go at some point =D

Take an old Dongle to bits and then use the case for your adapter.
