  • We bought this truck on a German government auction and 7 month later we have seen it the very first time. Shout out the fire fighter comrades from Markgroeningen / Germany for the well maintained truck !

Thanks for your subscription and big thanks for taking good care of the truck in the past. If the truck is fully build we will travel throughout Canada/USA and Mexico if not further south than this.

I am looking for a Mercedes Benz NG AF or SK fire truck from the late 1980's also. I considered the Steyr 12M18, but they have become ridiculously expensive and parts would have to be ordered from MAN in Europe. We don't have DAF in the states so parts are an issue. American truck chassis that are 4WD have electronics and sensors both engine and transmission. The first gen. Stewart and Stevenson LMTV M1078 is a rugged chassis but very bloated with extra weight when compared to a Steyr reducing cargo capacity. MB Sprinters, Ram Promasters, and Ford transit are too small and limited in off road capability. So Mercedes Benz is the optimal choice, manual transmission, no electronics or sensors to fail, rugged 4x4 chassis, worldwide repair/parts centers, and reasonably priced to import into the states.

You are exactly correct, cool to see someone else is going through the same thought process as we did. Beside MB, MAN, DAF and Steyr there is some other brands like IVECO, RENAULT, SCANIA and VOLVO they could be potential candidates but you mentioned a very important point and that is parts and availability.

Maybe that one electrical outlet is for the trailer hitch to give power to the brake lights of whatever you are hauling.

Just subscribed. I'm eager to see what you plan! I have an 1987 Iveco Magirus Deutz 90-16 with almost identical set-up. Have you had any luck sourcing parts with your contact in Germany?

Thanks for your subscription! The plan is to build a Expedition truck for two and dog. In length reduced driving cab and approx. 16-17 feet habitat . Steel structure and aluminum clad.
