    When our house was first being designed, we liked a lot of different styles. I will always remember something our architect said. “Eclectic is fine, you just want to stop short of hodgepodge.”
    I think of this often 😂

    Yes part 2……reminds me of the great art teacher I had in high school…..unfortunately during my school years she had passed from a car accident …Cathy Darling I think…… she and her partner were great inspirations in the art club… and gave me my creative spirit…. In all types of art….poetry…. Crafts… pottery…. Art appreciation… painting etc….thanks for the walk down memory lane….❤❤❤

    Definitely part 2!!! I just learned so much from this video. You are a great teacher. One reason why I love this channel is that it is not just another interior “decorating” channel; you educate us on design as well. You seem to be one of the few who has a design (vs decorating) background and it shows. The other reason I love the channel is for the dogs (I still miss Albert so much 😢)…oh and you too!

    • @GarrettLeChic
      @GarrettLeChic  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Wow, thank you! I understand. There is an actual science to interior design which you learn by going to college for it or at least working for a good period of time with an interior designer or firm. I try speak about subjects like interior decorating and design because that’s what I’m educated in vs say medicine, engineering, etc.

    Very interesting, the double rub test is called the martindale test in the Uk and it's done by rotating discs of sandpaper on fabric. I was nodding along with your comments about "Modern" style ,I have noticed that some shapes that are considered "Modern" like tub chairs for instance ,have actually changed very little in over 100 years. Details like colours and fabrics come and go but the skeleton remains. I see the sloping and bowed chair arms that were popular in 20s and 30s club chairs have been making a comeback as features of accent chairs. There's something rather wonderful about knowing that you could take a reupholstered club chair from 1935 and it would sit happily in a contemporary loft space. I suspect i'm rambling here but that's what happens when I watch videos like yours ..lol.

    I bookend my eclectic (haha) style with my childhood and my current status. So, it's 70s Bible camp core with a robust dose of old lady with wanderlust.
    Super fun video. I'd like to see a video where Garrett shows pics and explains what he thinks was his most creative room/house.

      Garrett, what are the odds you would entertain a special request video? I've scoured your vast video school room, but I have not found a solution to a dilemma I am currently troubling with. Could you please, would you please, please be my neighbor and possibly address this decor conundrum? Dressing a window with elaborate and opulent layered drapery consisting of shears and velvet embellished victorian drapes, finished valance, and let's not forget the tassel tiebacks mounted bilatterly for that swag effect. Now all of that over an unsightly window air conditioning unit that simply is an eyesore. Sadly, the unit is a necessary evil in this story. I cannot find a way to conceal the damn thing without an overly conspicuous buldge ruining my envisioned effect. I'm quite sure I am not the only person that is a student of your's that has not in the past or in the future, or perhaps currently faced or facing a simular ordeal. I am confident in the belief that you will have the solution to this tedious and troublesome decor personal hell I'm facing. Spoiler alert: Not as simple as just installing deeper brackets-oh no. @@GarrettLeChic

      @@sabrinasmith6589 Thanks so much! I know I’ve touched upon that subject in general terms in previous videos, but not as a whole video. To be fair and honest as always, I probably won’t make a whole video about that subject. Sometimes I just have to see these spaces and discuss them directly. It transported me to my Image Consultant lecture days😍
    Every vlog has something new to offer, and for me every vlog is educative. The double rub was quiet a new term I have heard of and never thought so before buying any fabric.
    Usually I am lover of everything organic, so linen, cottons, silk attracts me. Very thoughtful and nice of you to always remind everyone our role and responsibilities towards planet.
    Thank you so much and have a wonderful Easter break🥰🤗

    Brilliant part 1. Looking forward to part 2 and beyond. I particularly enjoyed your explanation on modern design. I’m like you, I just love well designed and made items. Art deco is my favourite but don’t really like pottery/ceramics from that era. I also think art nouveau is gorgeous. I’ve always just thought I was confused and lacked cohesion and style.

    I really like the way you described styles and especially scale. I use vintage and shabby chic if that’s still an appropriate word.
    I like the idea of recycling and I don’t like cheap American Warehouses furniture. I have an old hand carved red velvet couch. I would like a green velvet loveseat as a replacement because the scale is a little off.
    I can send a pic if you want. I would love your opinion. BTW I love your enthusiasm and your realness not trying to be pretentious.

      @@GarrettLeChic Your authenticity as a “passionate about what you do”as a human is intoxicating. I had forgotten about my love of designing again. My friends always used to tell me, “you should be a designer” but I chose a different path. Again I thank you for re-igniting my interest again. I must use the “scale” in my home again.

    When buying furniture and choosing the fabric if I ask what the double rub is will most store have that information?

    How do you find out how many double rubs of fabric has?

    • @GarrettLeChic
      @GarrettLeChic  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Its typically listed alongside the fabric composition, if you are looking at a furniture piece you may have to ask.
