Thank you for reacting! And yes, that’s one of the great things about Coke Studio, the rhyming translations doesn’t effect the meaning, in fact makes it better to understand the deeper meaning.
Problems with the English subs:
1. Urdu is a naturally poetic language and lends itself well to conveying emotional depth in terse expressions. Many expressions would make no sense at all if translated literally. Similarly, many expressions or phrases are loaded with cultural context so, instead of translating directly, translators have to rely on interpretations that would make sense to a broad audience. Unfortunately, much of the beauty is lost there. (Applies to Punjabi too).
2. They try to make the translation somewhat poetic and I guess that raises a host of other issues. I don't pay much attention to the English subs but I have occasionally noticed incomplete translations.
3. Sometimes the translators are just lazy.
That explains how I understand the song without eng sub vs with eng is different
That's called an epic combination of English & Urdu lyrics with the magical sound of Atif Aslam and Abdullah was just like the cherry on the top!!! Euphoria regarding instruments combination & it seems becoming signature of Coke Studio Season 14! A plutonic combination!!

I think the English subs are quite good. Urdu is a language whose prose and poetry is full of metaphors and a couple of words that convey depth. That you cannot ever literally get in English so making a complete literal translation would actually not convey the emotion or completely meaning. Basically Shakespeare got nothing on Ghalib so ...

Atif does vocal belting and has natural chest voice whereas Abdullah is more toward head voice n falsetto. It was a v good experiment.

Well English is like a second national language after urdu.....you can feel that Abdullah is at home while singing in english as he has benn brought up abroad....he is kind of foreign to urdu the way atif is to english but they both did alternate language bridges and sounded awesome
