Breaking. Knies to have an in person hearing with Player Safety for dangerous hit of head and his initial point of contact being an opponents elbow.
Thumbs up good show. You neeed more longer shows like this. The Leafs Talk is always so short. Cheers.
I agree,these 2 ,in this format,can go for a 90 min show,let's go boys!!
The hit in knies soured the whole game for me, not just the hit, but the screw job of not even getting a penalty. You have to be insane to think that wasn't a bad hit
He jumped before the hit. Initial point of contact was the head. As per Betty, it’s a major, and a suspension.
Not if you wear a Vegas jersey.
@ So true my friend. Unfortunately.
nah.
The part that scares me is that it looks like knies hit the back of his head on the ice.
He absolutely jumps into the hit. His feet don't leave the ice until contact, sure. BUT HIS LEGS ARE BENT ON APPROACH, straighten at contact, and leave the ice post contact. He jumped.
Tavares put an opponent in a headlock and threw him to the ice. What is happening to this team?
They wanna play for chief
Berube.
Sammy I apologize for the long message but thank you for not buckling to those that think your soft for saying the hit should be a penalty. I'm watching Kyper and Bourne and I want give my take because I think this has not been said. For those quoting the rule and puting the hit under micro analysis you have to ask why do we have the rule ? We have the rule to protect the player because concussions can have life altering affect on the brain. Unfortunately we have players like Joe Murphy and Kevin Stevens to show us what happens to players after years of head injuries.
I googled what is the NFL's responsibility for player concussions for perspective as they have had to address this and found:
Duty to Monitor and Respond
This includes removing athletes from play if they exhibit signs of a concussion and ensuring they receive a proper medical evaluation. Failure to do so can result in liability if the athlete suffers further harm as a result of continued participation.
Either someone has to die on the ice in front of millions of viewers as a result of a hit to the head as Kyper said he thought Reavo killed Nurse the way his head was torqued. This might bring attention that pressures the NHL to shift their perception on head injuries. The other is the NHL is walking a thin line with their concussion protocol when players can suffer years after their carreer has ended they may be liable for permanent brain injury. It may be only a matter of time until a law suit is brought against the league.
The IIHF and the OHL do not allow hits to the head period there is no debate on was it within the rules. For those that blame the victim for not keeping his head up I would ask is it ok for a player to suffer a life altering injury because he put himself in a vulnerable position ? Would you tell their families he should have kept his head up it was a clean hit ?
Russia kid on tv after game was being asked questions. He replied coach say back check, fore check then pay check
That's a line from Letterkenny. Forecheck, backcheck, paycheck 😂
LeafsTalk is the dessert after the game
Fellas I love the show, but your reasoning on the hit is baffling. You both agreed nobody would bat an eye if he got 5 and a game, yet here we are about to spend the next 4 days in Toronto talking about this hit. That alone should indicate something may have gone wrong.
I grew up with Rock'em Sock'em hockey too but thats's 5 and game now and it has been for a few years. He left the ice and struck a player in the head. Part of me hates myself for saying all of this but the only way to bring legitimacy to a system is through consistency. This is not consistent.
Spot on.
GUSH away boys. Cowboy, Grebenkin and Minty fresh, we finally have a crop of young guns that can compliment the core for a few years
You can't leave your feet to hit these days. That is all i will continue to say
How bout Robertson being the worst player on the ice again
Man is he useless
I don't know if he was the worst. What I do know, is that Minten and Grebenkin looked much better. There's no way Robertson is on the team after the deadline. If Robertson isn't scoring, he isn't all that useful.
Couldn't agree more
That diving play he made tonight was better than anything I’ve seen in robertsons 100 games
@@chrisg1556 thats kind of why they signed him one season for 875K after he requested a trade last season. He is for sure gone.
Shea Theodore was LEAKING blood on the bench, how was that not a call too. Refs were out to lunch tonight
Coming from a Yankees fan who’s seen a lot of hits I’m still surprised how nonchalant you talked about the hit on 23. You better hope they start calling those cause you n I both know the leafs aren’t going far without Knies in the lineup come spring.
Keep Minten and Grebs in the lineup. Amazing energy from these young stars and see where this goes.
Love your comments about the fans leaving early and totally agree. Also love the longer show, hopefully this is new look. ❤❤
As soon as I saw the Grebenkin Post Game spot, I had to watch Leafs Talk to see JD's take on the kid. We all knew he would have one. Was not disappointed.
*forecheck backcheck paycheck*
I think if Knies stays down it's 5 and a game.
I need "forecheck, backcheck, paycheck" on shirt. 😊
Such a gritty smile too. Print it!
Yes the crowd left early but I do feel like the arena has really been popping past few games. Seems like the volume is up at the arena with Sportsnet
the leave early crew thinks they are beating traffic (7k+ leaving early essentially creating traffic) but at this point you avoid the traffic by staying until the end.
That's a Jacob Trouba hit...at least they seem to be consistent calling these hits,i'd have to say if that was Chytl(who gets targeted every game) or Zibanejad,i would be furious calling for suspension...Minton is exactly what the NYR don't have in Hartford
Great clean hit!
A body check is thrown with the shoulder, not the elbow, not the forearm, the shoulder. Whitecloud's shoulder went directly into Knies head. His elbow and forearm extend upwards through the head. JD needs to read the rule a few times and then give it a second review.
I am okay with the hit, it's just the double standard. Also, agreeing with the "dessert" guy. I used to watch Steve dangle after games but all he does is yell. You guys are around my age and just chat about the leafs . Love it
Also if you took the time to actually look at freeze frames the head is the first point of contact watch LFR Dangle has it plain as day nothing touching the core all head.
I saw at work and couldn't watch the game. I thank you for this show with highlights.
I understand both your points of view on knies event. I look at it this way. The action is called "body check" meaning to hit the body. Thus NOT the HEAD! To me, contact was madevto the head, it's illegal. As for stating this era hockey? It's because as time past, we learned what this actions can do to a person in terms of concussion. To you, he might had looked fine. Actually, when I saw the clip of knies on the bench looking in different directions, I said he is out of it. His brain is pausing quickly and he isn't thinking straight. I don't want to see an action like that not just ends a players career but effect them to the point of having life altering effects. I want to enjoying seeing the game with our best players year in, year out. I will agree, the problem with a body check like this one that appears so borderline legal is if there is a height difference between the two players. Or if one is standing upright vs the victim crouched. 🤷♂️
As for fans leaving the game early. Guys remember, it's a "school night" some of us wake early to go to school, send our kuds to school, go to work, long commute (2 hour drive alone, not including shower, dress, breakfast, be at work by 8am, etc). Chill a moment. Not everyone has it made like you two. 😊
Question.
I hear you guys praise the bottom 6 players. You point out Stolarz salary as a bonus. It shouldn't be thought that way. They put their bodies on line. Look at Matthews, Tavares, Domi health record as an example. The bottom 6vand goalies deserves to get paid well. I'd rather see them over paid and doing their best, still loose then see them under paid and winning. Their pay check doesn't effect mine no my life in any way rather they get paid more or less. What does concern me is if players are choosing not to play in Toronto because they can go to a US state and not pay a state tax. So we have an NHL salary cap. How about adding that state tax percentage to teams in location with a state or provincial tax. Example;
If the current salary cap is $88 million then give teams with a state tax the ability to surpass the $88 million by at least 7%. I get that the state tax is on a person's income and each could earn differently. However, for simple math an to test things out to find bugs and errors, I would start with 7% on the cap. Maybe work towards per person (uf it makes a difference). I would be interested in 10% or a additional incriminate over that highest state tax just to attract players. Yes it doesn't help fight against weather differences. It a start. I think Toronto is missing out on great players being part of what should be a great history just because some simply prefer to go elsewhere. That's why good or bad, I'd rather keep players who really want to stay and want to play for Toronto like Marner, Nylander, Domi, Tavares, etc.
Best show on Sportsnet
great show great game
The side, just near the top of the D's shoulder, hit Knies' directly in the head. The extension of the arm was after the hit and was not significant to the actual hit. It was hit theatre. Wish the ref's would have let Benoit go to town, because it was deserved.
He launched himself up in to Knies' head. Should have been 5 and a game. Should be at least a 3 game suspension.
Likely will not be. Sad.
I love that you guys think that someone having their head down, even a bit, is a serious offense to the game of hockey. You're still not allowed to hit someone directly in the head, with today's rules. It isn't 1976 anymore.
Knies head was up before the point of contact…..
Major penalty and suspension.. Illegal hit jumping off his feet...deliberate intent to injure
I disagree with the leaving early . I am broke , pay 500 each lower bowl ticket and atill leave early to get outta that underground before 11pm
when i get the chance to go i stay till the end but not the 3 stars.. i have to catch the train to Burlington then drive to Fort Erie after the game
bud light 😳
What a game
Jinx Is Not in from RangersTown but for all the reason you guys give at the end of this video, this Leafs Team.....
Reaves hit was only worse because there was blood and lots of it. The principal point of contact tonight was the jaw, which can also be called the head. 5 and a game yes, 5000 dollar fine added on yes. The league is it's own worst enemy and I can name at least 100 reasons why, but we don't have time atm.
Reeves got thrown out. Shouldn't have got 5 games. 1 max but it is what it is. Now yalls panties are in a wad because of the bad precedent set and your guy being on the receiving end. It's actually not surprising.
Great show, longer format is a definite plus for anyone who misses the game
First place. Not bad considering.
Mogilny had a really dry sense of humour with reporters.
Sounding real Kypery today JD
Little fact check on Sammy 35:45. There is no Tim Hortons in Mimico. And you call yourself an Etobs boy....
It's a fast game but Theodore saw Grebenkin and turned slightly to present more back to him. And since there was no call, I guess just like the high hit, it was legal, right? Just questionable.
Different situation. As a player, it's almost impossible to stop when a player turns his back at the last second. Theodore saw him and instead of bracing for the hit, he put himself in a vulnerable position. That's on Theodore
One of the most enjoyable Leaf game that I ever seen Minus The Knies head check. This League is a joke or the League just simple despise the leafs altogether , Ridiculous display of judgement Ridiculous!!!
Did Tavares have a glove off?
Love leafs talk 💙 keep up the good work
Whitecloud did not get a penalty, because Grebentin did not get a penalty. 50/50
The Chief has this team buying into an identity, McKee when are you going to start believing??
Gotta say, Toronto fans are all class. Nobody threw beers or crap on the ice after the idiot refs call nothing on Knies hit. Unbelieve officiating. Just absolutely disgusting NHL officials.
The Great Woll of Toronto
Can't leave your feet Bundkis
If he's concussed then the refs blew the call.
It’s like the leafs are playing the KC Chiefs every night with how the refs call the game, goodness gracious
But in all seriousness I love the show by far my favorite TH-cam sports cast. Look for me 3 rows behind the bench at the stars vs leafs game in December hahah it’s gonna be a heck of a season. Start planning the parade
Left his feet plus elbow to head. You know how hard those elbow pads are like cement.
Leafs have given Robertson every chance to succeed. He's not good enough to make this hockey team.I question whether he's a full time NHL er
JD's comments about the hit are all correct. IF it was the explanation for why the subsequent suspension is 1 game and not more. It's not a good explanation for why it wasn't a major.
First bowl suit people are the worst, more worried about their next client than watching the game
fire furlatt, fire parros and take all the game coverage away from sportsnet
So if your head is down you can hit it. That’s what that ref is saying.
So Reavo should be back next game then...
Whitecloud has intent to hurt, more so after the hit, he extends his right hand/arm in a punching manner toward's Knies head. Absolutely disgusting no-call by the Refs and the SN commentator panel (David et al.). NHL officiating has reach a new low.
Piercing blue eyes, who is gushing now
Can't wait for A.I. To take over refereeing In the NHL... I've always kind of taken the people complaining with a grain of salt but that game just demonstrates how incompetent NHL refs are right now.
not step up....launched up
I bet you don't read my comment?
Terrible fkin call on the Whitecloud/Knies hit.. absolute joke. It's impossible to NOT have a biased opinion. When you have this 23 y/o kid, he's having a career year and then gets blasted by some fkin goon??? I don't care what you say. The initial, primary point of contact was his face. I don't care if it's Knies' fault. I don't. It's a headshot. And there's no way I will concede this wasn't a head-hit. And to be clear, I'm not saying Knies isn't partly responsible for this result. You need to keep your head up. And this wasn't as bad as the Reaves hit. But it was a hit to the head. That's it. Final answer.
The hit wasn't dirty...he was messed up because he slammed his skull on the ice as he fell back...just like in the playoff game his first season. He has a concussion 💯
“Stay for the three stars” … amen. amen.
i did like u JD...lol
Clean hit. Like Reaves', they made it as clean as they COULD have.
But both Nurse and Knies looked down, not once but, twice.
5 was too much for Reevo
0 penalty too little for Grebenkin.
@@seanmanias9281 knies got caught looking down quick but he looked right back up into someone jumping 6inches to hit him in the head, that was 10x more of 5min major than Reaves one.
Greb probably shoulda got 2 for boarding there but Theodore can’t pretend the numbers protect him and brace for it he knew what he was doing
Anyone using conspiracy theory or theorist as an insult in 2024 is not paying attention, not very smart or payed to do so.
he literally lined up his elbow to the face....garbage
clean hit but the hand pushing knies head was unnecessary
aww poor baby fell down. you leaf fans are weak.
Foreplay yourself. Bye
Clean hit, no elbow
If you give Reaves 5min and 5 games for a cleaner hit it’s tough to see that 2min even though it’s a bit of head down and some jump before contact not the dirtiest hit but worse than Reaves
Knies smacks is head in the ice he’s missing a few games
The 2 wasn't even for the hit it was for roughing after. Not even a real league.
