If you have a DJI drone you'd be screwing yourself to hand it over to some schmuck like this guy. DJI has a whole certified program for drone repairs and refurbishing. Repairs are resonable. More than likely this guy would just send it to DJI and add some cost to make a buck in the process because IT'S A FRONT.

There's actually no way to tell at this stage. It's pretty bad that cops dragged him out and paraded him for the press though. That's the government forcing someone to submit to the needs of a private news organisation.
It could also be that one of his employees and/or customers were smuggling and he got caught up in it.

You can't, that's by design, but is is easier to arrest a business owner than go after the well connected criminal prison guards who organize stuff.

I'd bet all charges against the shop personal get dropped due to lack of evidence as they probably only have phone records linking the smugglers to the shop and zero direct involvement. This was 100% for the nationwide news bite and to make it look like they are doing something about they terrible prison conditions but in reality 99% of the contraband is smuggled in with staff knowledge or by staff directly...
So what if his customers are all felons. Does this mean every liquor store owner in the hood will be arrested?

As someone that's been incarcerated, I can tell ya, if he was involved in something like that, he very likely DIDN'T have a choice. If you know someone in prison, NEVER VISIT THEM!! Yeah, drone repair seems like a very marginable business. Suddenly you start making lots of sales and you can afford to live. Does the tire shot ask why the guy with the souped up car is buying high speed tires? Does the ski shop ask why the guy is buying 4 ski masks? Now they did say they have electronic communication, so if that communication states that they knew what they were being used for....that's different.

This has been happening in prisons around the world for years even way before drones. A helicopter landed in prison and took an inmate away a few years ago.

I worked 15 yr for DOC. We have access to dogs that can detect drugs and electrical devices but aren't used. There are detectors and frequency scramblers that can see drones 1/4 of a mile away. "The love of money".
