I think my kids are still trying to get adjusted to people staring. I think we have American written on our foreheads. We are a black and latino family so before we speak a lot of times they think we are Belize. Overall though most people are very nice. I’ve had strangers speak up if someone tries to overcharge and there’s always someone looking out in our best interest. I LOVE the people and am happy we’ve moved here. I’m sad whenever any adult bullies another adult. We’re all just trying to live life. But hurt people, hurt people. Peace ladies.

Having been to over 30 countries (including living in Nigeria for a year), there is privilege in being Black and American or British. All over the world, I get attitude until a speak or they see my blue passport. I've seen the mistreatment of Africans all over. I even made a tiktok post about the Black travel caste system.

I live in Jamaica and I'm a nigerian, nobody from small island Will ever dream of making me feel any less. You have to be proud of your accent and carry yourself with impeccable dignity. Belize with a population of less than four hundred thousand people, is a village in Nigeria. They is nothing there to intimidate you, absolutely nothing. There’s definitely prejudice amongst black people in Belize. For example the Kriol (creole) people and Garifuna people have always had a mean eye toward one another. This was mainly because the British used divide and conquer to make sure these people despise one another by spreading nasty rumors and telling lies about one another. Rumors would spread about garifuna people being into witchcraft and sacrificing babies. The garifuna people were never enslaved either unlike the kriol who were enslaved from Africa so kriol people think that garifunas are arrogant because of it. To my experience, knowledge and own research none of these are true but unfortunately the tactics of the colonizer worked. Unfortunately I have family out in Stan Creek district who do not like the garifuna people of dangriga because of those very rumors and lies smh. It’s really sad tbh
