You sound like me! I have been trying to find a good washer for my mother. Her older LG has had 3-4 repairs in the last 2 years and now something else has broken. Its time for a new one and she wants a top loader. I am just going to get a Whirlpool.

@@itsnoahonfire I got a “used” Whirlpool (it was only from 2022) at a good used appliance store and it’s been good so far. Cost $650 for both washer and dryer but because there isn’t warranty I am a bit nervous if anything goes wrong. But so far it’s been good.

I have this exact washer. The full model number of mine is WTW4816FW3, which I'm guessing means it's the third revision of this machine. It's a good performer if one understands its little quirks, of which there are a few. Here are some tips I've learned:
    1. Don't use the normal cycle for anything other than possibly a half load or less. This is the eco cycle, so it uses much less water than the others even on the auto-sense setting, and it does not allow for a deep wash, which I believe is necessary when washing full loads in this machine because of the design of the agitator which rolls the laundry through the wash water. The normal cycle also has a pitiful spray rinse, but one can negate that by selecting the extra rinse which will add a full deep rinse, but at the same lower water level as the wash. It's a good cycle for lightly soiled loads of about a half tub or less, but anything more than that, I'd use something else.
    2. Piggy-backing off of the last tip, always use the deep wash option for full loads. In my opinion, the auto sensor doesn't put in enough water for full loads, especially full mixed loads because the auto sensor works on how heavy the clothes are, not how many clothes are in the drum. So, one might end up with half a tub of water to wash a full tub of clothes, which just leads to them being bunched up and thrashing back and forth against the agitator. Deep wash will give you a full tub of water so full loads can then turn over effortlessly. The agitator in this machine does a great job if it has enough water to work properly. I've seen lots of reviewers saying they have to use the bulky cycle to get enough water in the machine, but that is not so. I'd use deep wash before using bulky because bulky defaults to a low-speed spin, no bueno for heavy items. For a full tub of everyday clothes, my go-to selections are heavy duty cycle, soil level knob set to light so the agitation isn't quite as long, warm water, and deep wash. If a fast wash time is important, one can use quick wash, but I found for myself that the final spin wasn't long enough for large loads.
    3. DON'T OVERLOAD! This is imperative. This machine can't handle it. One can audibly hear the motor and gears straining during an overload condition, I speak from experience. One or two times of this happening corrected me of that behavior. Loosely packed, dry clothes to the top row of holes in the tub is the most you should put in this washer. Also, as stated in the video, balancing the load correctly is important because of the hanging suspension. If the load is out of balance at all, the machine will bang the tub against the sides of the cabinet and let me tell you, that is LOUD!
I guess I kinda wrote a novel, LOL, but I hope it helps others. It really is a good washer if one knows how to use it properly.

Thank you! I screenshot your tips. I just bought this model, after cancelling the order on two others I read too many bad things about. This has been quite a nightmare shopping for a new washer in this weird era of poor quality, "high efficiency", and computerized junk. I hope and pray I'm going to love this one, and that it will be a good one, it will arrive Monday. 🙏

I think you made an overall good choice. Like I said, it's not perfect, but it does get the job done well if you know how to use it correctly. Also, I'm going to tell you now it requires some patience. If you're coming from an old pre-2010 or so machine, you're probably used to cycle times clocking in at around 30-40 minutes. There are some cycles on this one, like quickwash using its default settings, that'll do this, but I'd avoid that if I were you except for small light loads. A full load with the settings that I believe give the best performance takes around an hour. For example, I was curious to know exactly how long my heaviest loads take so I timed it on a full load of towels a few days ago, set on superwash, medium soil level, hot water, one rinse with softener. The cycle clocked in at 70 minutes. People find this out and feel like no way, I'm not waiting that long, my old washer took blah blah quicker time to complete a cycle, but honestly, no washer on the market, except the LG front loaders that have the turbo wash feature or perhaps Speed Queen, are going to do an effective job in 30 minutes. They just aren't designed that way. So I guess my other piece of advice is don't hang around wondering when the cycle is going to finish. Just use my recommended settings and find something else to do while it washes. The hour will go by before you even know it. :D
Good luck with it. I still like mine. If you have any questions, feel free to reply to this thread and I'll do my best to help.

@@rynerobinson903 thank you so much. I'm actually really loving this washing machine so far! I don't mind waiting a little longer for loads to wash (I live alone, so I only have have to wash for myself), and honestly, the cycles don't seem to be too long to me. My clothes are getting cleaner than they've been getting in a long time, but the cycles seem to be gentle on them. I do appreciate your tips so much, they've come in handy. I think this model was the best choice, and I got it on a great sale at Lowe's for $489. I couldn't be more pleased.❤️

This is definitely one of the best washers out there for the money. It’s one of the last washers available with the deep cleaning dual action agitator and a true full basket of water. The only other washer that will perform better is the Maytag Commercial Model MVWP586GW which is almost twice the price but definitely worth it, it even comes with a full 5 year warranty. But for the money the Whirlpool WTW4816FW is definitely a bargain. The only negative is that it is a Lowes only machine, but Lowes often has them on sale.

Is this model required to use HE detergent? I just looked at the same model today at a local Lowes only difference is the last digit of the SN is 2 instead of 3. Not sure what difference is. I wish it was a convental washer not HE. But salespeople are leading me to believe that all the new washers are HE. I come from using a Kenmore Series 80 that died, now I have to replace it with something new. I'm a bit out of my element.

Story about a lady who found a computer board at $60. Meaningless. The problem: the computer boards are known for going out, the pressure swtiches as well.
Of course folks should choose this over Samsung, LG, and Hotpoint. Known garbage for years, could care less if 'they're getting better'.
Maytag or Whirlpool a better/safer choice and lower parts cost with more availability should issue arise.
Great tips of course but exactly reasons you might want to avoid the lowest range Whirlpools, or any other brand.
