  • The Home Centered Care Institute’s video, "Rethinking Modern Medicine," highlights what happens during an initial home-based primary care (HBPC) visit, including the assessment, exam, and conversations with the caregiver. At the same time, it shares the feeling of house calls, as they help people feel cared for and connected.
Known as the “modern-day house call,” HBPC is exactly what it sounds like - physicians, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants traveling to a patient’s home, or the place they call “home,” to deliver primary care services.
There are currently more than 7 million medically complex, chronically ill people across the US who are homebound or are challenged to leave their homes. Unfortunately, only about 15% of those patients and families have HBPC providers in their communities.
HCCI would ask viewers to share the video with friends and colleagues to help spread awareness of this vital healthcare service.
NOTE: During the Covid-19 pandemic, house calls are conducted with appropriate personal protective equipment and according to CDC guidelines.
