It was bound to happen sooner or later - the first harrowing experience on the Trans America Trail! Given our skill levels, it wasn't a complete surprise, but it was scary nonetheless.Thankfully, Ashley is okay and we are continuing on with our trip.

Heck of an adventure. I am impressed with Ashley crossing those streams. I had no idea there was a TAT. Wish I was younger and had the time. Great choice of a bike that African Twin. Happy trails to you two.
Ashley... I am totally impressed with your riding and courage you're showing. With very little dirt riding experience under your belt you have impressed the hell out of me. Keep up the good work. One lesson I've learned over the years of dirt riding is when you know at the last second you can't save a fall, bail from the bike. The bike's are build to handle most falls. You can always pick it back up and continue on. Be careful of catching your legs under the hard panniers on falls. Falls will happen on the trail.Most situations a person can power through like you did at the creek crossing. Don't let a fall scare you and learn when to bail from a fall. Best advice I can offer.

Way to go you two, that was sketchy stream crossing, Ashley kudos for pulling that out at the last minute thought you were getting wet for a moment there. Your proving to us no off roaders that it's an all new ballpark and new skills are needed and learned every step of the way. No rush enjoy the ride and scenery, we are.

Ashley did great! I have dropped my 772 lb Victory and I was standing still! LOL She's a warrior! I've traveled many miles in that area it's so beautiful. I don't think my old bones could to the TAT. Thanks for sharing it with us.

Looks like you are getting pretty comfortable standing up and letting the bike move around. That will serve you well when it gets rocky out west. Then you can concentrate on the best line, and the standing will be second nature.

That is why I have soft panniers. I've seen too many broken ankles under hard panniers and crash bars. They are hungry and will eat your foot if given the chance. Great video.

tellico plains area is a hoot. i have ridden all those creeks many times and seen em nearly dry and deep enough to swallow bikes. you guys did very well thru em. and ashley did exceptionally well staying on gas with control at end of that nasty crossing. i was concerned when y'all bolted on a set of hard cases for this trip as they are leg breakers! oh... and this terrain aint nothing compared what you will see out west. good luck!

So proud of Miss Ashley!!! You showed the courage you need to keep going. Think of laying it down at slow speeds as no big deal. Cuz the bike can handle it. Just keep your legs out as much as you can when in doubt or at least be ready for it just in case. That was some great experience right there. Lol.

I didn't know it at the time, but my buddy and I found ourselves on this road. We ride first gen vstroms with 705 tires. This is the hole I remember. It's slippery and deeper than it looks. The around the corner we didn't see the little dogleg to the left that bypasses the greasy clay hill. One pushing while the other spun the wheel. That was a fun ride.
One suggestion, could you post this journey with a number for each episode so we can watch them in order if we miss a few days?? Thanks
