My son died last year and I stumbled on your videos during a sleepless night and have been watching ever since. You have reminded me of how much I loved gardening with my grandmother as a child. I now have a guest bedroom half full of succulents, rooting clippings and plants. It makes my brain quiet down so my husband doesn't even mind haha. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
You will have to catch up watching All of her videos .. I have caught all up now I can't wait for them And I can always go back and watch them for reference as I am completely addicted to gardening now Absolutely fabulous Family I learn something new everyday watching Laura's videos
I am really enjoying the technical quality of your video. Listened to it with headphones and thought....the music is starting under Laura talking. Just like a movie score ! Awesome.
No TV show ..... too many restrictions for content, etc. She is creative and she has no restrictions on TH-cam....this will not be the case for TV producers. She will make more money , less stress , total 100% freedom on creativity. She will have her own schedule that she manages with freedom to raise her kids and better balanced family life. That is Nirvana ! TH-cam personalities could bring in income over $500 K over time.
@@berniecelee5062 TH-cam doesn't pay that much. You need at least 1,5 million views per month to make decent money from ads and, of course, plenty of sponsorships, of which gardening doesn't have many. Laura is very charismatic and very passionate about gardening and she could try TV out. Not only would she make more money but she could also get a bigger audience, so when her TV career is over, she can still resume TH-cam and make more money than she currently does.
FP HOME don’t sell yourself short. You have a garden. Just a small, potted one 😉 I couldn’t agree more though. Very few of us would have the time or resources to do what she does... but she makes it so entertaining to watch that I find myself fully enthralled watching her care for plants that I can’t even grow in my zone 😂
Feels so good to get it done, doesn't it? I'm so excited to see what you do in that part of the yard. Please show it all, beginning to end, including planning. It really helps to hear your thought process and learn why you made the choices you made. Give Russell a squeeze from me. He's so handsome, doing his catwalk. ~ Lisa
Love the way Russell was walking precisely on the edging in the latter part of the video! Definitely a “well-trained” kitty! 😂🐱Thanks for the cleanup video. I’m always curious how you do things this time of year! 💚🌿
I never realized where that name 'cat walk' came from until now. Russell was really strutting his stuff and made me laugh to see him not step into the soft grass. LOL
I love seeing Russell in your videos, he has such great timing and seems to fit in so well like he was trained to do what he does. I like to trim back everything in my yard, like the rose bushes and all of my perennials, they just seem to do better and then I don't have to trim them in the spring, and the new growth has room to grow. I love these videos, I always learn something new to either try or think about trying. Thank you again Laura.
Russell loves to be with you! I love furbabies🐾🐾 I have usually waited until Spring, but now I am with you and do some now. Still looks beautiful and tidy.
Snow came earlier here on the Canadian prairies than I expected and I didn't get my hostas or peonies cut back... I hope they will survive the long winter with no rot or damage come spring time... fingers crossed.
That looked a totally satisfying job....it may sound mad but I love cleaning up!😊 The difference between the before and after gives me such a sense of peace. (I must get a life one day...lol)
Thanks for this video. I bought several Blace Lace Elderberries after seeing you use them. I love their dark leaves and how delicate they look. I agree about removing the fence. I noticed in a previous video when you stood a ways off to show it, that it makes the area more inclusive to not have the fence. I can't wait to see what you'll do in that area.
Thanks for the tip. I still need to clean up my hosta and peonies... I've got a black lace elderberry too and it gets huge every year as well. I trimmed off a few really long branches already but will do more a little later this winter. I don't cut it back quite as much as you do though. You sound like me "while I'm back here I'll just do this too..." :D
Love fall clean ups! I always have a loper ready, nothing more satisfying than see a clean garden. Laura, thank you for all you hard work and love of gardening, enjoy your videos💕
Good job done! Thank you for the great tips on trimming back plants & bushes! Love your videos, as I have mentioned before I have changed the way I garden since I started watching your videos!! 😊👍🍁🍂🌞✂️🌿☃️❄
I do, too, but we’re trying to move away from dyed mulch...this new mulch definitely looks more reddish in video, but it’s a solid brown In person. Trying to get used to it! 😬☺️
it would be interesting if you shared the whole process of transforming the back garden, from the inspiration and design plans to the actual execution, it could be multi part series I know you also want to surprise us, and it also may not turn exactly like you imagined, but that`s the part I`m also really interested in
Also I would like reaction video of your first garden tour, some idea for winter content :)
Tatiana Selicka Thay could upload the videos of the process after the grand reveal ? That way there is still the surprise and the whole process. And when they explain rhings we can picture perfectly what they mean. 🤗
I love your videos, very motivating. I'm in zone 5 also but much colder than normal temps this year. I'm going to bundle up & pick an area to clean since the sun is out today. If I pick a section like you did and work on that today it doesn't seem so overwhelming. I just love when Russell appears in the videos. He is so cute.
wow, that was quite the freeze!!! doesn't it feel good to get things cleaned up? and i'm the same way: ok, i'll do an area a day and things will always be shipshape!! Laura, I would love to see how the pink gomphrena wreath would look with some of the pink berries from the Proud Berry Coralberry added. By the way, no one does Fall or Spring cleanup exactly the way it's supposed to be done! I think the only right way is how much time and energy we have to do it! I just love your little garden supervisor Russel, he's so cute.
I love your videos, they are very informative. My question is would you be able to create a cheat sheet of the bushes/perennials you cut back in the fall and which ones you do in the spring?
You have so much energy!! Do you have lighting throughout your gardens?! And do you have a video uploaded walking us through it?! Winter daylight savings is awful 😢
Yay! I love fall garden cleanup videos! Very cathartic to watch as well as motivating! Thank you! Could you please show us how you winterize your climbing roses near the chicken coop? I have the same type of rose in my zone 5 garden and I would love to see how you do it. Thanks again!
Oooh! I can’t wait to see what you’re planning for the grassy area. I hope it’s a cut-flower garden. ❤️❤️ I would love to see how to start and maintain a cut flower garden for flower arrangements.
Hi Laura enjoyed your video today off you tidying your garden up for winter .l was in my garden today doing the same thing .and the gardens do look a lot better after a good tidy up .l also can't wait to see what you are planing to do in the area were your tree came down and broke you fence
I’m glad russel and cheddar doesn’t poop in your garden bed, my neighborhood stray cats likes to do it in my flower garden which is always my dilemma, so I covered my beds with nets which is a pain😩
Thank you so much for the fall cleanup video! I’m glad you showed the roses, but what do you do to protect them through the winter? Please do a rose fall care video.
Im hoping to get a few more days for cleanup & mulching. We are in a cold snap for a few days. But my hostas look so bad. Yr garden looks so tidy.Inspires me.👍💥😳
I didn't get around to fall cleanup and I was about to recently and had noticed that the seed buds on my zinnias were being eaten probably by birds or squirrels so I just left everything more fall cleanup yes but at least I know they are providing food for the hungry critters. So more fall cleanup it is for me.
I love your videos, so much inspiration I have a big yard and never thought about planting anything 🤔 finding your channel has given me so much great ideas. Can’t wait for Spring so I can start planting a bunch of beautiful plants!! I also have a question when is it a good time to prune back trees? Love your personality
I agree about getting clean up done in fall. I cut all of my herbaceous perennials to the ground and prune as many of my flowering shrubs as I can get away with.
I LOVE cleaning everything in the fall granted my garden is alot smaller than yours but it gives me peace through the winter that's it's all done. Another wonderful video!!!
We have wet fall and wet springs out here in New York. Fall cleaning prevents a mushy, post-winter clean-up where things may have rotted from being smothered by their own mushy foliage
Here in zone 4/5 Canada, butterfly bushes are far too tender for our harsh winters coupled with freezing rain. They will perish sooner if not later, yet keep right on selling. Great tips on black lace elderberry!
Could you do a video on how to wrap up a hydrangea to protect in the winter. We have 4 that have winter die back every year. Even with a mild winter. Only one has had a bloom on it. We have also had a hard frost already and I may be to late to protect them but I would like to try. The blooms a gorgeous pale blue and I would love to see them again. Do not know the variety.
Hey Laura! I’ve always wondered what you do with the garden debris that you accumulate. I’ve seen what happens with your excess soil, but what do you do with all the branches and things that you prune and cut down? Thanks!
I scrolled through the comments for this exact same question. Would love to know the answer, because Fall and even Spring clean up can produce so many large branches and things to dispose of. Maybe a small chipper is needed to chop everything up to add to a compost pile?
How do you dispose of the bigger elderberry branches? I garden on a fairly small lot and prefer to compost as much debris as possible, but getting rid of larger branches without owning or renting a chipper is one of my bigger headaches. I spend a lot of time converting big sticks into small sticks that take up less space in the mulch pile, so if you have a better solution I would like to hear it.
You said cutting back butterfly bushes can open them up to winter damage. How do I know which other perennials and shrubs are susceptible to winter damage if pruned in the fall? Is there a rule of thumb or general guideline to follow? I am in zone 5. I tend to not cut anything back because I'm afraid it will stimulate the plant to put on new growth right before winter. Most landscaping companies in my area go through and whack everything down to the ground when they do fall clean-ups and blow every last leaf out of the flower beds, leaving the yard looking bare and unprotected from our northern Indiana winters.
Thanks for this reassuring video, I was worried about my very crispy hydrangeas. We have had more unseasonably cold weather up here in Minnesota also. Put in 2 beauty berries 1 is crispy and the other was still ok yesterday. Current temp is 16 so will check it when it gets light out.
Winter.....”but then I kinda love it too. A good excuse not to be working “ that’s exactly why I love winter too plus it’s a nice change from the other seasons. Great video I never knew to not cut back buddleia or caryopteris. Customers come back so often having lost them that must be the reason. That and maybe wet feet as we are along the water.
I think she just tosses it into the dumpster and lets it break down at the dump. I get that some townships/cities require lawn waste to be either burned or packaged in special brown bags for removal but I don't think she's in such a restrictive area. She can just chuck it all. I think. I'm just guessing.
Brad Johnson I am wondering as well. I could have sworn she has said not to prune now as it could cause new growth that would then freeze. Maybe I’m remembering wrong!
What do you do with all of the yard waste? We have to bag everything and put it out for the city to haul away in a garbage truck. Clean up usually means tons of bags of garbage. Is there a better option that you know of?
MIGardener just did a video about digging a trench in the middle of your beds, placing the debris in the trench, and covering it all up. The material naturally breaks down and enriches the soil.
I love your videos. I’ve never gardened before and you are teaching me so much. I’m curious why you left the frozen hydrangeas and didn’t clean them up or cut them back. Frankly, I’m nervous about cutting back any of my plants. Sometimes my lack of knowledge is paralyzing.
Oh I totally feel you on that paralysis - BTDT!!! But you're learning, so just keep soaking up information and you'll start feeling more confident. These videos are among the best I've found anywhere so you're in a great place!! As for the hydrangeas, leaving them up adds some winter interest. They can look really pretty once everything else is covered in snow!
I know this isn't the popular thing to say but you are missing out on providing mainly food for the birds such as waxwings, cardinals, chickadees, robins, goldfinches, & more - many die in winter due to lack of food , especially if they have been relying on your flower beds throughout the growing season for seeds, insects, and nectar. By leaving sedums (asters), coneflowers, rosehips, etc. I have found in late winter / early spring when all their food is gone they go to town on that stuff and I also get a convention of robins' that is stunning!
I have many David Austin rose bushes. I was told not to cut them back until spring. I would love to cut them back now because they are so unsightly (crunchy). I live in Boise which is your same zone. 😉
this is my second knee injury in 10 years where I had surgery in October. all the bits and bobs that didn't get cleaned out before sat under the snow until spring (May around here) and didn't suffer too much.
I wait for your video every morning. It’s how I start my day now. Thanks for sharing all your hard work and 🧚🏻♀️🌷🌱❤️wonderful ideas

Clean up is good, healthy & of course part of FAITH. Job well done.
I completely agree. I also have a large piece of property and there is no way we can leave everything until Spring.
woohoo Clean up videos are my top favorite videos. Am I the only one grooving to the retro music at the beginning?💃💃💃💃
Thank you for having us along the clean up. I actually LOVE the dried hydrangeas!!!! 😍😍😍😍

Please do a rose fall care video.
Looking wonderful. Tfs.
It was 31 here today and froze my fingers trying to drill holes for bulbs. Wish we had your weather. Davenport, Iowa
Im hoping to get a few more days for cleanup & mulching. We are in a cold snap for a few days. But my hostas look so bad. Yr garden looks so tidy.Inspires me.👍💥😳

Wish we could swap about 50% of each others weather, Laura. We have a little snow on the ground and everything's damp outside here in Michigan!
For the look back at the week I’d love to see the houseplants you keep and how you treat them
Any updates on how the pendula weeping white spruce looks that you planted a couple years ago?
I agree about getting clean up done in fall. I cut all of my herbaceous perennials to the ground and prune as many of my flowering shrubs as I can get away with.
Good Job. I cleaned out all my gardens this year too. No mess in the spring to clean up. Only a few plants for winter interest.

Heh. I said the same thing! But a chipper / shredder so she gets really fine mulch out of it.

Good morning! 💚🌳🌱🌿🍃
We got snow here yesterday . Can't do much now.I guess winter is here from the North Peninsula Canada.
Do you have a chipper for all the branches to help them compost quickly?
Ooo do you make anything with the elderberries? It makes a great syrup for immunity through winter!
The mulch maven at work
Everytime I see elderberries, I have to say it in the accent of the French guard from The Holy Grail.
yes! me too! that was the first thought I had when I saw the title.
@@okhal haha glad I'm not the only one!
Do you normally cut roses back this late? I have some that need it but I worried it would hurt them.
Brad Johnson I am wondering as well. I could have sworn she has said not to prune now as it could cause new growth that would then freeze. Maybe I’m remembering wrong!
I wait until very late winter/early spring to cut mine back.
@@Gigi-fv9ky we got our first snow so now I think it's kinda late....I could be wrong. Let's see if Laura picks the question up for Monday's recap
I love when Russell makes an appearance in your videos lol
Thanks for your videos. Not to be creepy but your eyes look so amazing blue in this video. Gorgeous!!
I have many David Austin rose bushes. I was told not to cut them back until spring. I would love to cut them back now because they are so unsightly (crunchy). I live in Boise which is your same zone. 😉
We are winter now...your eyes is beautiful blue..
Have you ever propagated hydrangeas? If so I would love to watch your technique.
Thanks for all you and Aaron do.
Your #1 fan
this is my second knee injury in 10 years where I had surgery in October. all the bits and bobs that didn't get cleaned out before sat under the snow until spring (May around here) and didn't suffer too much.
Are you planning to plant another arbourvitae hedge in that are to hide the neighbors house/yard?
Do you cover your concrete pots and statues?
Hi Laura.. I was waiting for a video..im happy now😃
