  • In this video I share my initial impressions on the TOPS Mohawk Hunter. This is a stout blade manufactured from expertly heat treated 1095 carbon steel. The Mohawk Hunter would splits the difference between a combat knife and a bushcraft blade.

I got the Dawn Warrior and quickly realized I hate the jumping on the spine of the handle and the simple, unrefined handle shape. Maybe my HOG 4.5 just spoiled me, since it has an amazing handle perfectly contoured to most human hands, but now I pay more attention to the handle and seeing that jimping is cringe. If they contoured the handle right it would fit in the hand without the need for jimping. Other than that, the Mohawk is a good looking knife that I've considered several times. Tops is good stuff, they just have an annoying habit of overthinking so things and putting stupid shit like jimping where it shouldn't be.

The jimping on the Mohawk Hunter is not in an area that has ever bothered me. I totally understand what you are talking about with other examples though.

I’m happy knowing this is my blade of choice so far. The camo pattern blade is nice but I got the black one like yours.

My only issue with the Mohawk is the handle. I feel it just needs to be refined a bit more. Other than that it's a great knife.

Never, ever believed in batoning with a knife, I have other tools for that, an that blade profile reminds me of the same profile as a "SRK" by cold steel, but the SRK is 1" in longer, thx for the vid.

I think you make a good point about batoning knives. I personally think that it is an excellent way of testing a tools durability. I also think that It has some limited use in survival situations. I would baton a knife in order to construct a fire board for a bow drill set. Assuming I had no other tools at my disposal.
