    Ive been driving stick all my life as most people do in europe. My current car got a torque converter automatic cause I got a better deal on that than the manual. Tbh its pretty nice. I like them both.

    Also better power transfer through a manual so more useable horsepower

      Depends. Its certainly true for older torque converter automatics. Dual clutch systems basically connect in the same way a manual does. Also most modern torque converter automatics use lockup clutches. Once in a set gear at constant speed the two sides of the torque converter get locked together by a clutch making for direct powertransfer. If youre accelerating through the gears then of course you still got losses.

      ​@@TheDude50447 Engine braking is also a thing that doesn't seem prevalent in all the automatics I've driven in, but seems to be a key factor in fuel economy.
      Letting off in an automatic kicks right back into idle whereas manuals get to rest in terms of power generation by utilizing kinetic energy from the vehicle to keep it running.
      It's like a one-way valve for automatics unless there is an engine braking feature (grade braking, b/L mode on selector)

      @@whackowafer4765 Im not entirely sure when the lockup clutch engages. I guess its different from transmission to transmission. From my limited experience with only one torque converter ever driven it seems that it engages anytime youre holding a constant speed and disengages when the car prepares to shift i.e. when I let off the throttle or start to accelerate.

    If all cars were manual there'd also be practically zero drunk drivers. Or they just wouldn't get that far. I'm glad there's still people out there who share my love for manuals. It's a lost art and these EV's are not helping.

    I havent stalled a car at the lights, havent needed to practice clutch control on a hill in 10 years... BEST OF ALL, safety, you can park your car and it WONT ROLL

      Hand brake is often neglected nlw in modern cars. They messed it up and they even have weird gear switxhing knobs or touch buttons.

    Automatics can now shift faster and yield better fuel economy than a manual for >95% of drivers. That could be why less than 5% of cars on the road today in North America have a manual transmission.

    I definitely understand wanting to feel connected to the car and the road, but I think most drivers just want to get to where they're going as easily & comfortably as they can. Combine that with the fast shifting and ~10 gears that automatic transmissions have nowadays, and its an easy choice for most people to go with the automatic. Yes, if you really know what you're doing, you can out-perform an automatic, but most people don't and can't.

    Don't get me wrong, and I do loving driving stick, sorry manual spent to long in NA (i'm a brit) but auto-boxes nowadays can do anything a manula can do, quicker, faster and better, I "dont" miss manual and majority of car manufactures are phasing out manual, including exotic cars. I can't in 10 years think of any situation I ever need a manual box... just me IMHO, have a great day, txs for the vid

    it's unfair that the manual transmission is dying from a bunch of lazy idiots that don't feel like shifting their own gears.

      I'm gonna preface this by saying I drive a manual, and don't live in the states.
      Where I live, it is TERRIBLE for manuals. City driving in stop'n'go traffic that if it is go, LOVES to move at the speed just too fast for 1st and too slow for 2nd. If you drive in the city, you go through a clutch every 80k km (50k mi), which while it isn't too bad, it does tell you why having to keep kicking back and forth into gear is a pain in the ass when this drawls on for HOURS. This is especially true when everyone's trying to beat the traffic light.
      The place for manuals is in long distance, the place for automatics is in cities. Unfortunately, many of us dwell in the concrete jungle. A lot of people just kicked off the womb ready to clog the streets again because public transport hasn't matured enough.
      Anyway, that's my 5 cents, screw the automatic transmission market. 😂

      @@whackowafer4765 yeah, my issue isn't so much that the automatic transmission exists, as much as the fact that car manufactures are no longer selling manual cars because nobody is buying manual cars. I completely understand that riding the clutch is extremely annoying and I agree in the city it's the better move, my issue is that even in the perfect environment for driving stick, they choose the automatic transmission, making only about 2% of new cars today sold manual. Because of this, new cars aren't being offered in stick. Take the new Subaru Impreza, the previous generation was sold with a manual, and it was standard. it costs an additional 1 and a half grand just to get the automatic, but now the Impreza is sold with a CVT, and only a CVT. I'd argue that's one of the reasons why the new Impreza RS isn't a proper successor to the Impreza RS of the 90s/2000s.
      Basically, I'm saying that new cars today, should be sold with both automatic, and manual transmission options, pleasing everyone

      Luckily over in Europe we've got heavier taxations on automatic transmissions due to more weight, higher emissions and a lot less fuel economy. Which is probably one of the main contributing factors MT's are still reigning supreme over here. Although hybrids are becoming more mainstream now and they're all AT...
      Right now I'm waiting on the delivered of my Toyota GR Yaris MK.2 in the next 4-6 weeks and of course I went with the MANUAL TRANSMISSION😁

      What are the odds of running into Ragical in the comments section of a random video about stick shift cars?
      I just got a 2025 Camry last Wednesday, hybrid, no option for manual transmission. I really, really wanted a manual but they are almost impossible to find. About my only choice was a Nissan Versa but I've lived with a dangerous, unreliable car for so long, I just wanted something that I felt I could rely on: Toyota.
      I still have my old 07 Kia Spectra sitting outside, but I've been having issues with it popping out of 5th gear for years and have never bothered trying to get it fixed. Now my boyfriend says we should just have someone come haul it off as junk but I worry that I'll never have a chance to own or drive a stick shift again if I let that car go.

      @@JW-vi2nh hehe well I'm also am a viewer of videos, not just a creator so to speak. It's a sad development where automatics are taking over, I mean the only place I tend to accept them are in vans, busses or trucks. Mostly truck what with the huge amount of gears on them
      Another sad thing is that America is missing out on a fair few nice manual hothatches. I heard the new GR four based Lexus BLX RR "Morizo" also isn't coming to the states either, just like the GR Yaris wasn't available... Same as back in the nineties with the Nissan GTR R32-33-34 Skylines. Reason being "not having passed safety checks", when in fact Europe for instance has much stricter rules and do have those cars. Sounds a whole lot like a money making scheme to "test them"

      I know what you are talking about. 3 speed automatic transmission not al that good. Overdraft 4 speed automatic much better. Had you gone from 5 speed to OD 4 speed automatic you would not have said lol

    I think that manual transmission belongs in the history books museams and show cars. Cant driveva manual transmission ehere i live in Seattle WA USA. Traffic jams move too slow for manual transmission. Traffic very awful need to pay attention to driving can't be distracted by shifting. Also driving no fun no point in havinga drivers car. To many bad drivers w ho don't know how troshift many can't learn. Psychology too blocked. Want gas mileage go with the Prius hybrid or plug in hybrid .Honda methode doesn't work as good. Prius total computer contro because too complicated to drive by anybsort of manual mode. I expect eventually Prius then either ev or fuel
    cell. No transmission just reduction gears no shifting.

    They where better. Now automatics are faster than a manual, and get better fuel economy. That was not the case in the past, and a classic cars with manuals where a lot faster than an automatic. Not to mention when working 10-12 hours a day, and then spending an hour in rush hour traffic automatics make life easier. Even Europeans are seeing automatics out sell manual transmissions. You are naive to believe EV's are going away anytime soon. In 20 years there will be very few petrol engines being made. Hopefully by then they can charge as fast as it takes to put gas in a car, and have ranges over 400 miles.

      I get where you're coming from but from my point of veiwbeing a mechanic a t a dealership (I need to do more research). Ev Sales have slowed down for, kia, Hummer, nissan, and a couple other brands. Hybrids are really popular probally 10-20% of the cars I work on. Short-term evs don't really need anything, accept a lot of brakes due to them using regen braking (which are on backorder for a lot of them) and they'll need them to pass a lot of state inspections. And after about ten years evs are cost prohibitive to own, due to battery's going bad. Evs work for most people that go to Starbucks the office and back. But there are way better alternatives such as hydrogen fuel cell technology that's getting popular in California. Evs will go away eventually once the consumiristic nature of most people see what these evs will do do the environment long term. I really want to learn more on this though
