you just don't stop and thing of how fast they grow. when i first heard this song my kids were 17.16.13 now they are all grown up and i 6 grandchildren!. life is good because my God is faithful.
👋I have listened to this song for years and never fail to cry . It is my go too song that my soul enjoys . It means more to me today than ever before . My sons grew up way to fast . Although I know that in order to be adult men that take care of their families I had to let go . But now that I am living with my husband of 55 years watching him disappear everyday little by little. He has Alzheimer’s.And this song has new meaning as I am truly alone on this earth of humans . But the only one who said he would never leave me is my Lord God in Heaven . There in lies my hope ! I am prepared for my final home . But I wasn’t prepared for Alzheimer’s!
Thanks for posting this. I have loved this song for a long time, ever since I first heard it on Delilah's radio show when we lived in Nashville. I had two tiny kids and the song made me cry then. Now I have two teens and a 5th grader, and they are growing bigger by the minutes. What a beautiful, bittersweet song--treasure those kids.
I have always loved this song. I would comment Mr. Watson on the apearrel of his back-up singer. So many times back-ups are dressed in a manner that is less than what a Christian should wear. The purple dress is lovely and is a testament to the character of the lady who is wearing it.
I love this song and have for decades. When I was back in college, my Child Psychology professor used to start each class with a question. One day, she asked what our favorite song was. I said "Water colored ponies." She said, " I've never heard that. What's it about?" So I told her. And 40 students were challenged to go listen to that song.
My children are all grown now, and this song brings tears to my eyes every time that I hear it, but it does bring up wonderful memories of my babies! Just honored that God blessed me with three of the best children ever!
Just heard this for the first time and I am crying - my sons are now 17 and almost 20 and I miss the little boys that they were...I will always be their Mom but I am not their Mommy any more...the time goes by so quickly you can't believe it, so enjoy them while they are little or medium or big! God bless you Wayne, what a beautiful song.
This is such a touching reminder to really enjoy & appreciate the time you have with your children. It seems we blink our eyes & they are growing and changing and on to another phase of life. It's sooo easy to brush them off, send them to watch tv or play by themselves while we do something "more important," but the reality is that the "important" stuff will still be there waiting, but our kids will not. We have precious little time to influence them for Christ -- make it count! Thanks for this.
An amazing song that brings tears to my eyes as our four precious kids have left the "nest" of home! So cool to see them grown up and serving the Lord, yet it has been mixed with a "bitter cup" of having them leave home....I really miss being their Mommy!!! Parents of young kids....don't take ONE day for granted. It slips by so quickly.
I love this song. It's was played at my wedding almost 23 years ago and it still makes me cry. Especially now that I have my own children. My son is almost 20 and I totally get the meaning. Beautiful song.
My "watercolor ponies" are now 17, 14 and 11. I first heard this song when the oldest two were just 3 and a baby, and the third wasn't even on our agenda. The song made me cry back then, and it still does today. Everyone tells you how quick your kids will go and to make the most of it, but do we really stop to listen? Through the sleepless nights, and the endless questions and tugging on your shirt to "come and play with me", sometimes you just wish for a quiet moment alone. But time flies!
I used to cry every time this song played on the radio because it seemed my son was literally growing before my eyes. He is 27 now and though he did grow up entirely too fast, I am enjoying him just as much as an adult but in a different way
My son is graduating from high school this year - a year early & much too soon for me! I've listened to this song his whole life & pray I've done all the song says with him as well as his twin who will graduate next year & their sister who will graduate the next!
Beautiful!. Thank you for posting this. I only knew the song from the album and this is a nice twist to it. I loved this song years and years before I ever knew I would have 4 children. Now I love the song even more.
Thank you, ever so much, for answering that question for me. I was wondering who the lady was, singing the background vocals. She did such a lovely job. And yes, she was dressed very beautifully and modestly. :)
This song was a hit when my son and daughter were toddlers in the early 1990's. Problem is, since my ex and I divorced 9 years ago, I have seen my son only twice, and have not seen my daughter at all. They have been brainwashed and manipulated by their mother all these many years. Please pray for Nathan and Tiffany, that God would somehow soften their hearts, and that their eyes and ears would be opened to the manipulation and brainwashing by their mother. Thanks you!
I loved this song by this artist when my kids were young and drawing "watercolour ponies" and "the shape of something I don't really recognize." I love it still, when they are in their late 20s and 30s, and see much more of the truth in it. Those days really, truly do go by fast. I have heard it said, the days go by slow, but the years go by fast.
@MrMikegriffey When mine were small I used to hate it when older people would tell me, "They grow up too fast!" I would think, "I can't WAIT!" But I loved every bit of it and yes, it did go by too quickly. Now I am that woman who tells young parents, "It goes by too quickly!" My sons didn't draw any ponies, it was airplanes, the one who drew planes is studying to be an aerospace engineer...The other one is a musician.
Does anyone do a guitar tutorial on this song? I would love to learn how to play it. Sounds a little hard and I get lost watching him play it. I wish someone did teach it, though. Be a fun song to learn.
It seems that the end of the our generation Our children are cursed. Buy the way they lives. Dying on the job. Something has changed. IF YOU SEE IT RUN RUN TO JESUS!!!! I CANT SAY MORE!!!!!! WE ARE DEAD
So sorry for your loss, because this makes it a double loss. :'( It is important to make time for yourselves, as a couple. But, this is much easier said than done, with kids. Once again, so sorry for your loss. :'(
-- Someone can't spell watercolor correctly. It's COLOR not COLOUR? No one spells it that way! I don't care if you're English, if you were English then you'd follow the dictionary. Ever heard of Websters? The first entry IS the corrrect spelling. -- Spelling it some British way is a myth, just like evolution and the metric system.

This song made me cry when I was little. So beautiful.

Thank you!
I appreciate this song even with the religious overtones. Proof an atheist can like something religious.

"But, baby, what will we do when it comes back to me an you?"----- Just get a divorce...that's all.
So sorry for your loss, because this makes it a double loss. :'(
It is important to make time for yourselves, as a couple. But, this is much easier said than done, with kids. Once again, so sorry for your loss. :'(
Would have enjoyed this more if there wasn't so much talking, could you shorten it some for us?

But the CD Tile of the same name is spelled Colour.
