  • Join us for a look at "Forestry for the Birds!" It has been reported that, since 1970, North America has lost nearly 3 billion birds, with eastern forest birds seeing a 17% decline. Although habitat loss is considered to be the top threat to wildlife, there are ways to reverse this trend by incorporating wildlife habitat into your forest management plan. Learn from Kristen Meistrell, Vice President of Stewardship with NJ Audubon on ways we can use forestry for birds and other wildlife.

Too bad the state seems to have little interest in managing it's lands for Bobwhite Quail, which was extinct in New Jersey until reintroduced onto private lands near Speedwell. Lands which are actually managed. Vast acres of easy to burn uplands exist in central Wharton State Forest, and could be thinned for forest improvement, or even just burned frequently to produce suitable habitat.
