I love my SD1. It boosts a Big Muff so well.
David used one for a short time in the 80s and got some great smooth tones from it.

Can't agree more! I got the 50th anniv edition Sd1 and it's simply..like wow!! All Vox users must have this amazing pedal. Thanks mustafa for the insights as always 🎉

Didn't know an SD-1 could sound so good. Does it nail the Gilmore tone? No, but it's really good. Your playing makes everything sound good, though. You've clearly put in the work. That's more important than any gear choice.

There’s a chime, and a creaminess, yet a crispy harmonic attack to this pedal that I really like. It has a flavor of big power tube breakup.

To be honest I'm not really interested in chasing DG's tone but really enjoy your style of presenting, your general knowledge of pedals and tone as well and you're a very tasty, fluent player too with a cool vibe.

My go go pedal! Can't go wrong with an SD-1! Almost an underated pedal. People always talk about tubescreamers and so on...and those infinity copies out there...and forget the BOSS SD-1.
    Great video. My respect!

SD1 has been my main drive pedal for around four years now. I love it. Goes from from low boost to soaring lead. Yes - i agree with you that is very smooth. Which is why I like it. Not great for every Gilmour sound, obviously - but I think your review here demonstrated what a versatile pedal it is. And you got some terrific tones from it. 👍

I feel like a lot of people sleep on the SD-1 for Gilmour tones. I think the BD-2 is better, but it’s not bad. My only issue with it is I haven’t been able to get it to stack nicely with some other pedals (I’m thinking Big Muff specifically). That’s where a Blues Driver, Tube Driver, or a TD-Y/ FET Driver can really shine. But on its own, into a Laney or a Blues Jr, it’s capable of some sweet tones. Overall, I’ve always preferred it over its cousin, the Tube Screamer.

The SD-1 is a classic pedal, they always sound awesome and can work pretty well for some of Gilmour’s playing as well

On the upside, they’re among the cheapest pedals on the market. Second hand you’ll just have to sacrifice coffee for a week to afford one. :)

@@BaronsDuju Good point, but after adding The Machine, a Vibe Machine V3, and a Unit67, I'm about out of space on the board.

Gotta get a Boss OD-200. You can get so many overdrive tones out of it. And not just Gilmoure.

SD-1s are fine if you don't like any bottom end in your tone. They have a severe bass cut.

for me you make this pedal sound ok but with a little bit highend, for me sound thiner than a blues driver , but for rat tones sounds ok to me. check nobels ODRS for this kind of tones, amazing pedal super versatil with 3 bands eq.

@@mustyguitar actually heres an idea for you, make a video to get Gilmore tones out of a terrible overdrive pedal, something like a fender hammertone overdrive pedal which, in my opinion, is a rubbish pedal! If you can make that thing sound good il eat my hat.

Beethoven on a toy piano is still Beethoven. No matter what gear you use, if you play Gilmour licks with it, it will sound like Gilmour.
