Another great authentic book is Firekeepers Daughter. It is the greatest MI read this year and I was able to attend an author event at our library. ❤

Thank you, Lindsey. I just downloaded Where the Lost Wander from Audible. It is currently on sale for Audible Plus members.
Reading Native American stories from Indigenous authors is a good idea, but I have no problem with reading books about this culture written by non-Indigenous people if they are careful to be faithful to these incredible people. I also recommend Middle Grade books about this culture. Interesting stuff.
So far I have read Keepunumuk - Weeachumun’s Thanksgiving Story by Danielle Greensdeer, et al. I also read A Snake Falls to Earth by Darcie Little Badger. Both authors are indigenous and the flavor of both stories is quite unique.

I highly recommend There There and Wandering Stars by Tommy Orange. He is an indigenous author himself

I second this! Just read There There last month. I also really enjoyed Elatsoe by Darcie Little Badger and am about to read the prequel.

I suggest The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian by Sherman Alexie. It’s a very good YA book about finding your identity.

Adding to the indigenous author comment, the author of Firekeepers daughter is from an indigenous tribe in the UP of Michigan. And correction, it is the great MI read for 2024.

Great recommendations! Kathleen Grissom is fabulous so I will definitely read Crow Mary. Also One Thousand White Women. I've heard about it but never read it.
I did not remember that Jodi Picoult story. I've read all her books. I don't re-read books but I really think I want to re-read all of Jodi's books.
    Also anything by Louise Erdrich.

May I kindly suggest that you notice a lot of the books you chose are written from a white author’s perspective, and that to truly support and bring awareness to indigenous people it would be better to choose books written by indigenous authors.
