    In this Surreal Fantasy painting demonstration I show you how I use PanPastels and Pastel Pencils on Pastelmat board with my brush technique, which is how I work these days.
    I use masking film to prevent halos around my subjects and show you how I mix colours if I don’t have the hue or colour I’m looking for. This painting is a Surreal fantasy theme using all sorts of techniques.

      Hey Mara, thank you for watching and had so much fun painting it. These Pans are sooooo versatile and have managed to develop application techniques with my makeup brushes which is a fun way to paint.

      Arnold thank you so much for watching and appreciate your comment. PanPastels are so versatile and I would just keep on practicing until you find your groove with them. Every artist is different and we all have different styles. I would like to see your work someday. If you have any questions about using them feel free to contact me.

    Chrissy, great art piece! You have an impressive imagination. Fantasy is not my thing but I throughly enjoy your videos and usually end up watching them more then once because you do such an amazing job. The music choice for the video was perfect too. It was like watching the intro to a movie. Loved it. Look forward to the next one.

      Hey Heidi, thank you so much for your comment and for always being so supportive which I appreciate it more than you know. And yes fantasy themes are not for everyone, the world would certainly be a boring place if we liked the same things. As for the video, I enjoy the video editing as much as painting, really enjoy putting it altogether and selecting the music. I think it helps with the mood of the painting, especially this one was definitely lending itself to a scene out of a fairy tale. Again thank you so much for watching.

    You're a magician - This is AWESOME. I love this wonderful picture and I love soft pastels - but haven't tried the pan pastels yet. I with my heart long for learning this.

      Hey Lilie, thank you for watching. I love all things pastel and so many other mediums too, but pastels are very forgiving. When you get the opportunity to try PanPastels and if you have any questions, just let know and hopefully I'll be able to answer them.

      @@Xrissart it's about the Carbothello, i have only used 4 pencils so far and two of them have their led broken, so i alredy wasted half of them just to try and get a point. Mind you, i bought them last week and have used them for only one project. Was i just unlucky and got a bad batch or is this common for them? I really like them, love them actually, but maybe i need to buy a different brand?

    • @heidid2346
      @heidid2346 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yris Black Chrissy is more of an expert than I am but I’ve had my Carbothello for a year now and done numerous projects with them. I’ve never had that problem except with one pencil and discovered the problem was actually with my sharpener not the pencil. Got a new sharpener. Pencil problem fixed.

    • @Yris08
      @Yris08 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@heidid2346 the sharpener thing would make sense, but then all my pastel pencils and colored pencils would break? Don't have any problems with it, just with those 2. I think i just got a faulty batch

    • @Xrissart
      @Xrissart  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Yris Black about your question, @LadyMarigold was correct, I think you were unlucky, who knows those pencils may have been dropped and/or I think it could be the sharpener. I use many sharpeners and I make sure my blades are sharp. Pastel pencils is a different ball game and so different coloured pencils. I haven't had any problems with the Carbothellos. But if you want to try another brand Faber Castell PITT Pastels pencils are terrific and well worth purchasing.

    Your music choice took this gorgeous painting and turned it into a beautiful story. Absolutely love this well done 👍😍💕

      Hey Kristine thank you so much for watching. I soooo love the video editing, it's another creative outlet which I'm learning and trying to improve on. Yeah this painting is like a scene out of fairytale and tried to select the right type of music. The video editing process can take just as long as painting itself!!!!

    How do you not cut into the pastel board?, was just wondering, fantastic work as usual 😊

    • @Xrissart
      @Xrissart  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey there Michael, thank you for watching and always appreciate your support and comments. Not cutting the surface you say? Good question! I always use a very sharp blade, in fact I change it after every second project to ensure that I don't have to apply pressure on the surface (this might be overkill). However the surface is the key thing here Pastelmat is very forgiving and lets me get away with a lot. I also have a video where I show you my process, it's called "Mask IT" on my channel. Again thank you for watching.

    What brand or brands of pastel pencils do you use? I have Faber-Castel Pitt Pastel Pencils 60-colour set and Stabilo CarbOthello Pastel Pencil, 60-Color Set. Just wondering if you are using ether of these, or a different brand.

    • @Xrissart
      @Xrissart  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello Elizabeth, yes I use quite a variety and have some favourites, Faber Castell, Stabilo CarbOthelo are the main types. But I also use Brynzeel, Gioconda, Conte and Derwent (I use these all for different reasons). Some are soft, hard and in between and some I use because of the shade or hue. All in all this is fabulous medium and one that I have fallen in love with. Thank you so much for watching and taking the time to comment.

    P.S, if someone told me this was a Salvador Dali painting, I would believe it.

    • @Xrissart
      @Xrissart  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      So funny Elizabeth, I get that a lot. And don't mind saying Dali's work has influenced me in some way. I think I like it when someone does a double take and says "Hang on! what's that?", I mean they don't have to like what I paint but just that they had to look at it twice (that's cheeky of me!!!!!).
