I actually preferred the Open-Palm ending. The whole point of the game was that there was a natural order to the world that had to be restored. Master Li's strategy only resulted in a world of corruption that offended nature itself.

I am glad others think so too. I am not a game addict but do play games a lot even if they are not the latest games. Jade empire is quite possibly the best game I have ever played.
For me, the Open Palm ending makes the most sense story wise and thematically. I think the great sin that the Brothers Sun committed isn't that they attempted to defy the god's, it's that they sought an easy solution, not caring about the consequences of that solution. They essentially doomed the entire Empire to eventually die out, just to preserve their own dynasty. I think it's admirable that they attempted to save their people, but they did it without considering what slaying the Water Dragon may do. Plus in terms of a sequel, I have no clue how they'd deal with the protagonist, because Open Palm protag became a revered hero, and Closed Fist character basically becomes a god tyrant.

LITERALLY MY CHILD HOOD. I remember being subscribed to the Xbox magazine and they would send you game magazines and demos sometimes. I played demo jade empire and BEGGED my grandma to buy me the official game. Till this day ( I turned 26 on August 21st 2023), THIS GAME IS FOREVER SOLIDIFIED AS BIOWARES GREATEST WORK.
I wouldn't consider the third ending the overall cannon I just consider more of a what if, sort of like with Nier and Drakengard. Where if they continued Jade Empire then the open palm ending is cannon, but for an alternative universe then it is the third, but both ending are cannons to their individual title sequels.

You mustn’t have looked too hard (or at all) if you didn’t even manage to find Mark Darrah’s video about his time working on Jade Modern. If you don’t want to call it canon that’s fine but it was the ending BioWare intended to make canon when they were developing the sequel and as far as I’m concerned it remains the canon ending until and unless BioWare starts working on a sequel following on from one of the other endings.

My point remains that it's a faulty assertion to claim that one of the multiple endings for Jade Empire is canon based on aborted Jade Empire 2 concepts. Your source, Mark Darrah never makes such a claim either. It's fine if you want to interpret that ending as your personal head canon but that's about as much weight as it carries.
Mark states that Jade Modern followed the sacrifice ending. If you want to argue that a financial decision that lead to the abandonment of development means you don’t think Jade Empire has a canon ending then that’s fine for you, though I bet you would feel different if it was an ending you liked that BioWare chose. Sacrifice is still the ending that would have been canon if the franchise continued - the ending chosen by BioWare. I’ll accept that as canon even if I would have preferred the emperor ending myself.

It wasn’t a ‘concept that Mark had in mind’ it was the basis for the game BioWare’s team was working on both while Mark was on the team and after he left. Faulty logic would be claiming that the choice of the canon ending by the people who made the game has no bearing on the canon ending would be. Otherwise it’s like saying George RR Martin can’t say now if the tv GOT ending is canon to the book series or not because he hasn’t published the final book - of course he could, he’s the creator and he gets to decide. Same way BioWare gets to decide what the canon ending of Jade Empire was and they decided on Sacrifice. The fact that the sequel and the books are unfinished doesn’t mean the creator’s decision is null. BioWare could one day change their minds but as long as they don’t Sacrifice remains (at least the most) canon ending.

For the KOTOR games they did, they make the good ending canon but also make the evil ending work with the sequel’s story if you decide to choose it
