    I went from Rokits to the KH 80's around 4 years ago. As I havent heard many other monitors I have no reference point when people say they are 'boring'. Going from what I had they sounded amazing. My mixes are now translating well and its thanks to these monitors.

    Yeah I checked these out and they sounded great! At the time for me it was between these and the Genelec 8351bs, which I ended up going for because of transient detail, point source, room practicality
    I feel I made the right decision for me, but to be honest as a listening speaker I tend to prefer the sound of the Neumanns. Good to see you with these and I hope to see more adopt them tbh

I'd be equally curious to hear the smaller ones and try mixing a track on them, not that I need any different speakers though, my mixing is sounding more on point than ever before with the 310's, I am super happy with them.

    • @iTimestretcher
      @iTimestretcher 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I love them, Honestly my mixes have sounded better than ever, mixing on the KH310's, however, you should at least get acoustic panels for the first reflection points, to at least somewhat control your rooms acoustics. But as far as the Adams' go, those were what I was gonna buy before getting these, but I didn't. But I love the KH's. Also, whatever monitors you decide to get, I would highly recommend using Sonarworks, or something similar. The combination of the Neumanns and Sonarworks is wonderful, my mixes finally sound legit professional because I can hear what I'm doing in a broader context. Just my 2 cents, I love them. Btw, I originally wanted ATC's for the same reason, but the Neumann's were like half the cost and I don't regret the decision at all.

    I wholeheartedly agree with you that the Neumann KH line is extraordinary❣️
    I use the KH 80s and the KH 750 DSP in my home setup. I've also used the KH 310s-which are fantastic-and tested the KH 120s.
    I've found that with all of these monitors there is a definite break-in period; you'll hear it once they're broken in.
    My friend Mike Senior and I are on the same page when it comes to these wonderful Neumanns, and even Paul White from Sound-On-Sound said to me that the Neumanns are very hard to beat.

    • @Hexspa
      @Hexspa ปีที่แล้ว

      The break-in period is possibly entirely mental. I've never seen any fastidious measurements showing a statistically-significant difference in a speaker that's been played for three months. Speakers of all kinds take getting used to.

    • @stupendousmusic4190
      @stupendousmusic4190 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Hexspa I've used monitors and headphones that haven't needed a break-in period, and I've used monitors and headphones that clearly have. There are manufacturers that even recommend a break-in period. When I am breaking in a monitor, I leave the room and go about my day while I have music continuously playing through them at a reasonable volume. When I come back in, I leave them powered but don't play any music through them to keep my ears objective. I'll do this for a few days. When done, the difference is quite noticeable.
      When manufacturers run measurements, they often do so after a break-in period, and at times those can be the monitors that don't need a break-in period when they are for sale.

      @@stupendousmusic4190 How do you know this?

    • @Hexspa
      @Hexspa ปีที่แล้ว

      @@stupendousmusic4190 Even a 2" difference in head position will change the amplitude response of what you're hearing. Not to mention your perception of your hearing is not identical from day-to-day.
      I know it's probably hard to accept but your break-in ritual is probably 99% superstition. TH-cam doesn't allow link posting in comments but you can search for 'Audiosciencereview do audio speakers break-in' and 'audioholics speaker break in fact or fiction'. In both places, you'll find measurements and arguments in support that a fully-assembled speaker should not need more than a short time to break in and even then the results will be less than production-line unit-to-unit variation.
      Please don't tell me "use my ears" or make any other unsubstantiated claims. Do not refer me to a manufacturer's manual - they are not all always correct. Prove with independently-verifiable measurements that the difference in response is great enough to be perceptible in a large sample size of speakers. If you can't do that then you do not know if speaker break in for complete loudspeakers is real or not.

    Got the KH310 's a few months ago and could not a find a better transient response in the low end anywhere else. The closed box makes them super fast and responsive while keeping a really insane extension in the low-end. I'll probably get the sub eventually and some 80 for an atmos rig. Lots of people told me they found them boring but God, they are truer than a lot of others I've tried. I would've gone for a good pair of PSI if not for those but they're double the money! I do mainly music mastering currently, some mixing and production. Building a new room and looking for a stereo setup that I could expand into atmos later. Obviously these are high on my list and I'm very interested, also because they would probably do well with a range of surrounds. How do you like stereo mastering on these? I'm used to ATCs (old ones, before SL drivers) in a decent room.
    Edit: also interested in what you use for speaker management/calibration. Interested in your whole atmos setup actually, looks like something I could go for.

    Hello Streaky,
    First of all, thank you very much to approach your mastering experience, also some tips & tricks with your sense of humor.
    Second, I have a precise question about NEUMANN KH310 vs Dolby Atmos requirements. Regarding KH310 specs, they offer 95 dB NPS, with a max 116 dB NPS. What Dolby Atmos specs say is the main speakers LCR should have a constant 85dB NPS in sweet spot listening position.
    So why the KH310 do not support Dolby Certification if its specs offer higher SPL levels, considering LCR (3xloudspeakers) add more pressure level than one unit alone (95dB NPS??
    I please you to describe as precise as you can, because I'm now studying to design and construct an Dolby Atmos commercial studio.
    Thanks a lot

    You can keep adding absorption. Just make sure your reflections remain spectrally balanced via the Energy Time Curve measurements. Floyd Toole says people prefer a lot of (spectrally-balanced) liveness but contradicts himself by saying that professionals work in highly-damped environments yet doesn't criticize that fact. Anyway, whether you prefer live or damped, you need to make sure your reflections are not drastically different than your direct sound. That's my understanding up until this point. This is for higher frequencies, mind you, although bass frequencies have similar criteria as outlined by broadcast standards and white papers. Nual Mellor and Jeff Hedback have publications on ETC specifications if you want to dive deeper. Oh, and congrats on your speakers. I'm looking forward to an upgrade at some point myself.

    I always wondered if the type of monitors matters that much when you put a correction curve on your output. Like f.e. i run sonarworks sound id on my Yamaha HS8 and they sound 'clean' / neutral and flat in my room (mostly treated but improveable). Like how much difference is noticeable when i get let's say the Adam A7X and measure the speakers according to my room with sonarworks sound ID and get a flat response again. In both cases both monitors sound clean and flat in my room and therefore similar??? Maybe the same?
    So again my question is: do monitor types really matter when using them with response correction softwares? Does anybody know something i might miss here?

    • @momoflows1923
      @momoflows1923 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In a vacuum yes. Factors like transient response, how long does speaker cone takes to stop and how directional your speakers are , play a part as well regarding the overall sound. Even the noise level and the max spl play a part. I say a vacuum because this assumes that there are no other forces that are affecting the frequency response that you would get from measuring the monitors, for example let us say the Yamahas speaker resonates the room at 200 hertz, however the Adams resonates the room at 400 Hertz. Yeah you could use sonarworks to flatten the frequency response, however now each speaker is going to have a frequency which lasts bit longer than the others. And thats even assuming the speaker cone is even as tight as a shoelace at those frequencies lol

    • @KoeiNL
      @KoeiNL ปีที่แล้ว

      You can't fix problems in the radiation pattern with an equalizer. Lets say you get a peak on axis at x hz, but off axis at the same frequency it is flat or a dip. Then you can never fix the response. You pull the peak down, then your off axis also goes down. So you can't correct it. On pure nearfield you don't hear as much of the reflections, but if you sit a little bit further from them then reflections have a huge influence on the response at your listening position. Even in a treated room.

    • @KoeiNL
      @KoeiNL ปีที่แล้ว

      @@momoflows1923 If they are in the same location they both will resonate the room at the same frequency. Room modes are a property of the room, not the speaker. You can change what room mode you hear at your listening position by either moving the speaker or your listening position. Then the peak will just be at a different frequency. The peak might be louder with a certain speaker, but that is simply because the speaker is playing that frequency louder for some reason.

      Are you serious about this? I read a similar comment from you on a KH 310 video. So you're longing to experience how they sound through a compressed youtube video, recorded through a microphone and stuff, listening through which system..?! That's freaking hillarious. 😂But maybe you think they're a scam and you just want a proof of them being able to actually produce some fart noises at least. Who knows... 🙄

    Being so boringly neutral… do you think they would be good for mastering as well?

      I actually found them rather exciting personally. Just not as much as ATCs which are gorgeous and musical sounding

      ATC mid range is amazing…bass is lacking in the wrong room though

      Hi, it’s Always a nice thing to write Shame shame about things that isn’t 100 % accurate. let’s try for exemple with your comment, you wrote « streaky » it should be written Streaky with a « S » not « s » or « Kii three » not « Kii Three ». Do you think we should write « Shame shame @Underview” about your comment. Please let me know, it s alway nice to learn this isn’t it?

      @@olivierclasse Also, each Kii Three speaker effectively has a 2 meter square baffle which makes frequency’s very directional so less need for first reflection treatment… I think.

    YOU YOU ARE USING DIFFERENT SPEAKER MODELS ON YOUR ATMOS SYSTEM, AND WHEN I ASKED FEW DAYS AGO IF WAS POSSIBLE TO USE DIFFERENT SPEAKER MODELS U SAID NO!

      maybe some misunderstanding about using different speaker brands or he don't wanna hang big 420s also on the ceiling and rather use smaller ones there

      @@cycleofficial4744 EXACTLY, sounds logical that you L-R speaker
      would be different and the rest another brand/model

    ...and you dare calling them "BORING"..?... moreover, with "…But I Bought Them!" You deeply offend who saved for long time or worked hard to buy them.and if you say "BIG & BORING…But", i don't think your ears or the part of your brain connected to them working so fine...
