To all who helped to put this together, Nice music, great mixing, and great photography. Sorry I wasn't able to make it this year. I Shot Tevis Cup at a Glance last year and was hoping to help out this year, but mother is almost 89 and I had to stay close for her. I live in Redding CA, and have made it to Tevis for the last 8 years. Maybe next year things will be different. Great shootin.. Rob Exter
LOL, I guess I can understand this comment from someone who is not a competitive rider, but let me assure you, the riders are doing this right along with their horses, especially the good riders who stay fit and keep balanced throughout the ride, many even get off and run next to the horses to give them a break. The average healthy person would be near collapse at the end of a 100 mile ride without proper training, not to mention be in full discovery of muscles they didn't even know they had ;)
Well I speak for everyone on that topic, but all the endurance horses that I personally know love their jobs, and its one of the few sports where the needs of the horses are really put first with vet checks throughout the competition to make sure that they are healthy, sound, and able to continue. So even if a bad rider wanted to push a horse beyond its capabilities, the vets and judges wouldn't allow it.
@lakota123max Diva & I finished the Tevis Cup about 4:30 a.m. last year. It was such a wonderful feeling to trot across the finishline. Next year my daughter Bee will be accompanying me on our gelding LP Skylar and riding the Tevis with me & Diva. Can't wait to show her this trail. Very tough, but also just gorgeous
@tevispost Will you be there this year for the 2011 ride ? My daughter will be riding it with me, and I am so very excited to Share this trail with her, she has been coming to the Tevis since she was 6 and volunteering with me at Last Chance & Lower Quarry. What a feeling it will be to ride side by side with her as we cross No-Hands by the light of the moon !
Nice to know. Last person I asked about this didn't mention anything about the vet checks being stationed through this trek. There haven't been any serious injuries or casualties, has there? I guess I sort of see the difference between this and, say, horse racing. I despise horse racing but if you're right, this is much different in terms of the safety for the Horses.
But what about the Horses? If they don't want to do it do people force them or what? And that is a serious question; I know of several people (friends, aquaintances, etc.) who care for Horses and while some of them are respectful of what the Horses want while some basically force them to perform. I'm just really hoping not everyone does that. :/
Most endurance horses absolutely love what they do and hate being in an arena doing circles for an hour. The stronger they get, the more energy they have and the farther they can go. Some are more relaxed about it, but a lot of horses truly want to see what's over the next hill, and they love it when they pass another horse.

I'd be more impressed if the people did this instead of the Horses.
It’s a joint effort, a partnership.
There is actually a sister event, the Western States Trail Run, where people do run it.
