Awesome choices, Kurt! You really had to search for these! I think D-Nice is my favorite from the list. You said it didn’t get much attention, but up in the Bay Area, it played all the time on Wild 107 and KMEL! It pops into my head every now and then, so I’m really glad you brought it up. I didn’t know he was doing all those livestreams during quarantine. Keep up the great work dude! 💯💯💯

What I miss most from the 80’s is renting VHS movies from the local Video store

    • @SkyTurnsPurplePhotography

In the early 80s, my family didn't have a VCR. The video store would rent them out in these huge plastic cases, so we'd have to set that sh!t up whenever we rented videos. By 1985, we had a VCR, but I remember before that.
Dan Hartman died young, it breaks my heart man.

Yep nothing like the plastic smell of video tapes when you walked in to your local video rental. Back then, before the internet, most of the time you would pick a movie based on who was in it and the description on the back of the box. Then my mom would pay with her credit card and the employee would put it in one of those manual credit card machines. The ones where it slides back and forth to make a carbon copy receipt. Hop in the back of the station wagon, get home, and pop it in the VCR. Ah nostalgia!

Odyssey - "If you're lookin' for a way out" ... the best break up song ever. If you only listen to one from the list, this is the one
The Sundays - 'Here's Where The Story Ends" ... recorded in late 89 (released Jan 1990)
    Prince - "17 Days"
    Matt Bianco - "Yeh! Yeh!""
Breakfast Club - "Right On Track" ... the production value is 80's *GOLD*
Paul McCartney - "No More Lonely Nights"

My pick of a really good New Order song is "Confusion" Also another good 80s song is "Salt In My Tears" by Martin Brilley, "All Come True" by World Party, "Gotta Let Go" by Lita Ford,
"Square Dance Rap" by Sir Mix-A-Lot", "Jam On It" by Newcleus, "Make A Circuit With Me" by The Polecats, "Wood Beez" by Scritti Pollitti, there is a lot of great 80s music also can't
forget about "Anything, Anything" by Dramarama, "Erotic City" by Prince, "Be Your Man" by Jesse Johnson's Revue & "Ice Cream Castles" by The Time and so much more. Your list was great.

Somewhere out there is a network executive who just doesn't realize that we as 70s babies that grew up in the 80s and 90s would love to wake up or go to bed just watching old nostalgic videos from these 2 eras. Like the old mtv days or vh1. When late at night or early in the morning depending on what type of life you had , you just tuned in let the record play so to speak. I said all that to say someone is missing out . Yeah they will need sponsors but dang just let the music play please. If there was song you didnt vibe with you just turned it down untill the next one, bring back the good old days. I apologize for the way mind works. ❤

I wish we as a community could get together and just vibe out together, and come dressed ( optional) in our best 80s garb. Maybe in a club or warehouse that could hold us all. Maybe different hours of music alittle of 70s, a hour of 80s rap, rock and rnb. And then just a mix of all it. Oh yeah Dj takes request for a hour. The finale would be him and his son doing Prince covers. If it happens can someone warn me in advance i work in the medical field and Im severely under paid. But id be there with big hair and all my non on the beat dance moves. 😂😂😂😂

Actually, I do remember D-Nice getting airplay out here in the SF Bay Area back in the day. Actually, out here, quite a few rap songs got airplay out here; like Posse on Broadway, and artists The Fat Boys, Digital Underground, Run DMC, Beastie Boys, all were played on the radio out here.

I will always regard “Pop Life” as one of Prince’s most underrated and underperforming singles. I remember going to K mart when it was released and always being disappointed that the stack of 45’s wasn’t going down. 😢 Also, lots of great picks here!
