    Thing to remember, In countless scenes Stringer can be heard saying "Ayo close that door", "Lock that door", "Shut that door" etc...In his final scene all the doors are shut on him. He runs from one door to another and they are all locked...

    That final meeting between stringer and avon is modern Shakespeare, and massively underrated - each of them has turned on the other, and are individually saying their final goodbyes to a person who (they think) doesnt know whats coming - one of my favorite scenes in the series, and one of the reasons why season 3>4

    One thing that I never see anyone point out: I'm convinced that the scene in Stringer's apartment with Jimmy looking at his books is a callback to D'Angelo in his book club in prison before he was killed. D'Angelo pointed out that Gatsby was putting on airs with his fancy book collection of volumes he'll never actually read. And now we see that Stringer did the same thing, but Jimmy was too enamored to see the full picture and realize the ruse.

    Y'all are not ready for season 4. You just think they didn't lay any bread crumbs, and technically they didn't, but the writing is so good they were there anyway. Either Marlo or Slim Charles is my favorite new character on S3. I think whenever Mr. asks Mrs. this question she only thinks in who she "likes", but sometimes the best characters are not good people, but as characters, they grab your attention more than anyone else. Either one of those 2 are undoubtedly gangsta, to their core. It's not a persona that's a means to an end, it's them 24/7 365, like Omar, but without a grandma to take to church every Sunday.

    I think season 3 is my favorite. It is a little slow, but where the other seasons all layout complex societal problems, season 3 is the only one that really focuses on (attempted) solutions. The theme of season 3 is Reform, as announced by Mouzone in the cold open of S3-E10. Or as he describes it "Slow train comin'".
    There are 3-4 "Reformers" in the season, each trying to reform his little corner of the world. The most notable being Colvin and Stringer. Cutty is also undeniably on a journey of personal reform, as are McNutty and Bubbles to an extent, although each of those is sort of just starting. And then in the background you have Carcetti, who starts to take up that mantle of Reformer, but ofc there seems to be a lot of sub-conscious and/or conflicting motivations in his character.

    I always think the interesting thing is Stringer is essentially trying to get out of the drug trade/keep in less violent and thus drawing less attention. He was fine with Hamsterdam too. The co-op got them more money and less fighting. it's Avon that was against taking the better package, the co-op and other stuff. Avon liked the violence. Stringer's way would have been a positive but Stringer. In the same way Bunny Coleman was one of the few cops actually interested in implementing an effective strategy for dealing with drug use, sale, and violent crime. Bunny was effective but society couldn't tolerate the concept of legal drugs, (cough: alcohol. tobacco). Bunny's way was a positive and Bunny fell. And we go back to the way it was before, crime and violence all over and ineffective policing and call it progress and pat ourselves on the back for upholding morality while being pretty ineffective.

    • @Bdawg.
      @Bdawg. ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Without spoiling anything, I don't think Stringer's way would have worked long term. They aren't the only play in town. The other player, Marlo, isn't all that about diplomacy from the looks of it. He sent Bodie (essentially Avon's crew) packing from a corner. Whether Stringer liked it or not, the game *is* the street and the street *is* the game.

    next season best season. And I called it too. Cutty's everyone's favorite. Good story arc for him.
    Next season it's really tough to choose. Lots of old characters get or continue their great arcs, and the new ones are the innocent types you can't help but root for as well.

    Stringers death was so satisfying personally, I despised the character of Stringer Bell. Man was a true snake 😂 Idris really was amazing in this role, cause even in the very end I started to feel bad for him when he realized that there was no negotiating out of this one.

    QUESTION: So Jimmy chose peace of mind over the thrill of the chase. Boring but easy paycheck job, familiar territory, stays healthy and sober, comes home to a kind, beautiful woman and her cute kids.
    How many of you would choose boredom, sobriety and domestic bliss over a much more stressful, intellectually challenging and exciting job but which often triggers reckless drinking due to said stress?

    • @Efilnikufesin76
      @Efilnikufesin76 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Question: Was Jimmy doing what he was doing providing him with any happiness? Seems like he has been chasing a void he cannot fill for 3 seasons. Jimmy has been chasing demons for a while and getting himself into untrusted territory with those who used to trust him. A bit of a boring sober life sounds like the prescription he needs.

      I think being a major crimes investigator was providing him with some happiness and stimulation during the hours he was at work, using his keen detective skills and instincts to try and catch big time criminals. More exciting than walking a boring beat in uniform, responding to the same old boring domestic calls everyday. But it was completely ruining his home life and relationships. Either choice is a big sacrifice.

    Fun tidbit, the initial script had Omar pissing on Stringer's corpse, but Idris Elba refused to do that scene, he said it was too much out of character for Omar to do that, and he got his way.

    Near the beginning of the first of these two episodes,when the city and community leaders are in Mayor Royce's office talking what to do with the drug free zone,the older brother with the glasses telling Royce if he were to sanction it his department could do some good...that's former Baltimore Mayor Kurt Schmoke,who waaaay back in the late 80's made national headline when he said that he thought the best way to attack the national drug problem was to decriminalize all drugs and treat it as a health problem. Thereby taking the profits,and the inherent violence that comes with those profits,off the street.
    In my opinion he was right then and he's right now.

    I know Stringer did a lot of terrible things, but I always thought it was sad that he didn't have enough time to achieve his goal of getting out of the game and going legit. He went to college, he applied what he learned, even if it was in the drug trade, and he was doing what he could to be a legit businessperson. Just a loss of potential. But yeah, he was responsible for some pretty sad deaths and betrayed his best friends.

    • @Madbandit77
      @Madbandit77 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      His intentions were selfish, getting Wallace and D'Angelo killed. They wanted out of the game, but Stringer wouldn't have that, exploiting them while trying to get out himself.

      @@Madbandit77 Yes, I totally agree with you, he did unnecessary and unforgiveable things. It's more like in a parallel universe, it would've been nice to see Stringer change course w/out all of that, and end up legit.
