Summer of '65 this 12 year old took his pocket money to my usual record store to hear the latest records, this record blew my mind, especially Jim McGuinn's 12 string, they became my favourite band & still are!
Recognize the second guy the camera focused on? That's David Crosby, later part of legendary group Crosby Stills Nash & Young. He worked with basically every 60's artist of the "Laurel Canyon" days. Joni Mitchell, Jackson Browne, Cass Elliott, James Taylor, David Gilmour etc. And proclaimed often that his very favorite singer, of all time, in the entire world, was Bonnie Raitt. And he fathered 2 of Melissa Etheridge's children, with her then wife, Julie Cypher.
The lead singer, Roger McGuinn, was named in the Mamas and Papas song ‘Creeque Alley’, ‘McGuinn and Maguire (Barry) were just a getting higher in LA, you know where that’s at’. Gene Clark wrote one of the Byrd’s classics ‘Feel a Whole Lot Better’
Love the reaction and you should do Dylan's version (more verses). The Byrds covered a lot of Dylan and were HUGE as one of the first Folk Rock bands. That's David Crosby (in the poncho on the far left) from Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young.
Beautiful, groovy song! David Crosby (with the bangs), later of Crosby, Stills and Nash fame, looks especially young without his bushy mustache and longer hair.
In 1969 we were marching from San Jose to San Francisco to Kezar Stadium. When we were walking up Hayes Hill in SF, a top floor apartment resident put his speakers on the balcony and played Mr. Tambourine Man very loud. Bob Dylan helped us up that hill.
The music of the '60's and early '70's were a reflection of the times. For many of us, it was a time of awakening socially, politically, and spiritually. We were discovering new horizons, and exploring the very nature of reality. It was wonderous, tumultous, and exciting.
Check out Gene Clark (the tambourine man here :) ). His solo stuff from a few years later is extraordinary; "White Light" and especially "No Other" are unique. They weren't popular in their day due to atrocious (maybe even deliberate) record company mishandling. But they were rediscovered some time later and are critically appreciated now. Gene wrote a lot of the Byrd's hits.
The Byrds "Mr. Tambourine Man" 1965😅 were in that Psychedelic Period it has a new sound to it. 😮 l think it's time for Steppenwolf "Magic Carpet Ride" or Tommy James and the Shondell's "Crystal Blue Persuasion" & " Crimson and Clover"🍀 Put on your Rose Color Granny Glasses ✨️and get ready to melt away Acid-Free 😮 with 🎶 MUSIC 🎵 Peace 😊✌️ your 70 year old forever Hippie Gary 🕺✨️💃 🌈 😀 Great Reaction👍
Near the end, did you catch very young David Crosby, future CSN fame, in the pale green turtleneck? The music industry had never seen anything like the rock-n-roll era with so many performers and styles. Music had been dominated by a few big stars and Big Bands, and a very small demo of classical music fans, then the teenagers hit like a hurricane
I don’t think I knew this was a Bob Dylan song, but listening to it again with that information I can definitely hear his style. Also, one of the reasons I like to watch these music reaction videos is because it’s interesting to me to listen to a well loved song from the perspective of someone hearing it for the first time. 😊
As a kid in the 60s all the teenagers in my neighborhood would wear those types of glasses with purple lenses , Either square or circular like Janice Joplin ! Brings back memories ! I've always said I was born 10 years too late or I could have made it to Woodstock , But I was only 8 that summer yet I remember when it happened ✌️
It really was a different time. 10 or 20 years ago I might have said that it's just my nostalgia and the fact that I grew up during that time, but sod that, it was a truly special, likely unrepeatable time, and the music reflected that.
Love 'The Byrds' , still beautiful , magical music! They made sensational covers of 'Dylans' incredible poetry!, in many cases they are the versions we all know and still love in the "Jingle jangle mornings " !!...
This is one of the most influential folk rock bands from the 60's. The Byrds covered a lot of Bob Dylan's songs. They had a lot of great hits such as "Turn! Turn! Turn!", "Eight Miles High", "All I Really Want To Do", "I'll Feel A Whole Lot Better", "You Ain't Goin' Nowhere", "So You Want To Be A Rock 'n' Roll Star" etc. David Crosby was originally in this band before he became part of Crosby, Stills & Nash.
It’s actually shorter than the Dylan version by several verses. No doubt for radio play. It cuts out one of my favorite verses in popular music: To dance beneath the Diamond sky, with one hand waving free, Silhouetted by the sea, circled by the circus sands, where all memory and fate, driven deep beneath the waves, Let me forget about today until tomorrow.”
As a product of that time, let me assure you this: That love you are witnessing in the '60s and '70s went virtual very early, in virtual communities such as The Well, or Whole Earth "Lectronic Link, which was created by groovy Californians such as these gentlemen...among whom you will see the great David Crosby, looking like a boy. Those early virtual communities (who created the term "virtual community") evolved into what we now know as the internet. The international nature of TH-cam, for instance, makes it similar to the mindset of that time of learning and sharing...just as you two are doing here and now. The get-togethers are virtual now, and oftentimes end better than real get-togethers. The world today, on oases such as yours, would only be a pipedream back in those days. Music is medicine, and y'all are wizard-healers. Far out!
My first time ever hearing a Rickenbacker guitar was by Jim McGuinn playing Byrds mercy sound music. No other guitar sounds like a Rickenbaker and McGuinn was an expert on that instrument.
As someone who came of age in the 60''s , those were amazing times . Yes not everything was perfect , but there was a different , more positive overall spirit , at least in the USA . I refuse to conform to the absolute shit show which American society has become .
PLEASE take a minute or two and look up the full lyrics by Bob Dylan. If you don’t want to listen to Dylan’s version, just read the lyrics. It is pure poetry. Absolutely beautiful. Three verses longer than this version
There are people who have that sound her name is Kacey musgraves many times Grammy winner try Cardinal on Austin City limits and then go out and discover the rest of her catalog she's amazing 🎶🎵
There are some beautiful Dylan covers ~ Joe Cocker, Joan Baez, Anana Kaye, many more ~ but I never bought this overdressed version of an awesome original. Bob Dylan was really nice about it. I guess I’d already heard the original ~ still remember the first time near 60 years later.
You have to understand that at the time this performance was televised, you only got to see it once. If you didn’t catch the Ed Sullivan show on that particular Sunday night, you would not be able to see it until the internet and TH-cam came along 40 years later. Every musical performance was an event.
AWESOME!! Have you done the band Seals And Crofts yet?? No relation to Laura Croft! 😂 The song; SUMMER BREEZE is a great Vibe of that time as well!! Great Reaction! Peace 🕊️☮️♾️😎🎸🤟🏼
You two would have been a great fit for the Folk Rock genre. Sadly it went away too soon. I'm 73, and have learned they can take away our past, but they can't take away our memories.
People were far less cynical back in the 60s. It was a generation that believed they could actually change the world for the better with music, and I think they did in part. The Altamont festival of 1970 kind of brought that era to a close though, even though a motorcycle gang being used as crowd security was really to blame for the spurts of violence and tragedy that occurred there.
React to the latest Bob Dylan song a few years ago it became the number one song call murder most foul Dylan was around 79 years old when he recorded it
There are no more “bands” anymore. The reason is because the music business prefers solo acts which are easy to manage and promote. Hopefully this trend will end.
It’s actually shorter than the Dylan version by several verses. No doubt for radio play. That 12 string guitar changed rock and roll for the ages.
In high school in the mid 60's. What a fantastic musical time to be a teenager. At the time we didn't realize how special it was.
Exactly and we never thought it could stop.
Another great song written by the great Bob Dylan!
We all knew every word to this song. Such beautiful harmonies.
How many know all of the words to Rap songs?
@@glassontherockscertainly NOT I ! Not a one
The Byrds were mesmerizing.
Great harmonies, the Byrds were a great band!

I THOUGHT SO!!
SO COOL!✌🏻
Don’t forget Roger McGinn and Gene Clark
Or Chris Hillman
Great #1 Song from the Byrds❤❤
It seemed almost like every week from '64-'69 there was a new artist with a new sound and new look.
That’s how it seemed at the time. The challenge was to catch the stuff our handful of tv & radio channels didn’t want to play.
Once you hear this song you won’t forget it😊
Exactly, you know it’s a hit from the intro . the Byrds turned Dylan’s song into a more happy and carefree hit.
They have. They even said so in their introduction
Yes it was a different time. And it was a much better time.
Short and sweet. They were soooo young. Keep all this love alive. Keep bringing it forward to all your peers in your generation.
Growing up in the 60's the song brings back memories of such good times. Remember the bell bottoms and turtleneck shirts and love beads.✌
This may have been their first time on national TV. A good reason to smile. The Byrds helped fight back the British Invasion. 🙂 ☮🧡🎶
Love the reaction and you should do Dylan's version (more verses). The Byrds covered a lot of Dylan and were HUGE as one of the first Folk Rock bands. That's David Crosby (in the poncho on the far left) from Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young.
The instruments were played by “the Wrecking Crew “ except for Roger McGuinn who was used to studio work. Great Bob Dylan song.
Love this band and this song since it came out in the 60s.
Desperately wanted to wear colorful Byrd Glasses, but needed prescription glasses.
Beautiful, groovy song! David Crosby (with the bangs), later of Crosby, Stills and Nash fame, looks especially young without his bushy mustache and longer hair.

One of my favorites from those Interesting Times.
PART II 😁 YES!! When a song "Takes you back"💖 AND you've never been there,,,,,, that is a great achievement for that band! ☯️☮️
The music of the '60's and early '70's were a reflection of the times. For many of us, it was a time of awakening socially, politically, and spiritually. We were discovering new horizons, and exploring the very nature of reality. It was wonderous, tumultous, and exciting.
I was so fortunate to be a teen/young adult during those amazing times. We had such great passion for music & life back then.
Check out Gene Clark (the tambourine man here :) ). His solo stuff from a few years later is extraordinary; "White Light" and especially "No Other" are unique. oh memories.

The guy on the far left (stage right) is David Crosby of Crosby, Stills & Nash. The jangle of Roger McGuinn's 12 string Rickenbaker was unmistakable.
Near the end, did you catch very young David Crosby, future CSN fame, in the pale green turtleneck? Please listen to Chestnut Mare by the Byrds.Such a brilliant song.
Great stuff!👏
Thanks for the reaction 😎
I get the same feeling as you do about the 60's still today.
Takes me back to the 6th grade! David Crosby in the poncho.
94th I remember hearing this on Our Kitchen AM Radio ..I was 6yrs old ..65 this yr
Many of the young people and youths were a bit more humble or authentic and very grateful for being acknowledged for their musical talent.
Listen to moody blues,,, in your wildest dreams.
Love 'The Byrds' , still beautiful , magical music!

🇬🇧
Lol... They had some serious bowl haircuts back in the 60s. Im glad i was just a baby/toddler. 😊

David Crosby sure looked very young there!
The gut on the far left wearing the Pancho is David Crosby who later was in Crosby Stills and Nash.
Some of the greatest live performances were on the Ed Sullivan Show. Please check out the Bee Gee's singing "Words" on this show.
Thanks guys. ❤

My first time ever hearing a Rickenbacker guitar was by Jim McGuinn playing Byrds mercy sound music. No other guitar sounds like a Rickenbaker and McGuinn was an expert on that instrument.
The fact that it was a 12-string Rickenbacker was mostly responsible for that chiming sound it produced.
Keeping to the flow ya have to check out Green Tamborine by the Lemon Pipers. Same era.
❤❤❤
I get a Puff the Magic Dragon feeling..
It was my era. I was so lucky.
Me too.....an amazing time!
As someone who came of age in the 60''s , those were amazing times . Yes not everything was perfect , but there was a different , more positive overall spirit , at least in the USA . I refuse to conform to the absolute shit show which American society has become .
Ditto

The unmistable sound of a Rickenbacker 12-stringer
👍👍
Most of these band members went on to play with other well know bands, most notably David Crosby with Crosby Stills and Nash.
There are people who have that sound her name is Kacey musgraves many times Grammy winner try Cardinal on Austin City limits and then go out and discover the rest of her catalog she's amazing 🎶🎵

Grew up with this music in the 80’s. ….what happened to the world.

When bands were people playing all the instruments in "real" time and their was no such thing as autotune.
DYLAN!!!!!
You two would have been a great fit for the Folk Rock genre. Sadly it went away too soon. I'm 73, and have learned they can take away our past, but they can't take away our memories.

Thank you so much for reacting to The Birds. Could you please react to Peter, Paul and Mary Leaving on a jet plane, Five hundred miles
Back in the 60's & 70's it was a more innocent time. Today music is over-produced & commercial.
React to 8 Miles High as well as The Times They Are A-Changin another Dylan song
His voice sounds like a mix of Bob Dylan and Tom Petty.
:)
Dylan's version had much more lyrics
React to the latest Bob Dylan song a few years ago it became the number one song call murder most foul Dylan was around 79 years old when he recorded it
Another Dylan cover. His original version has more verses.
There are no more “bands” anymore. The reason is because the music business prefers solo acts which are easy to manage and promote. Hopefully this trend will end.
As a teenager (and now) I preferred Bob Dylans's studio version. Here it is, see what you think: th-cam.com/video/bH4SF7FrNzc/w-d-xo.html
Why does this couple not know so much music? Theyte not that young😮
Well, it loses all the poetry but it's ok to dance to.
not the best audio (mono) in this video.
great choice, very cool glasses!!!
HOPE ALL IS WELL WITH YOU TWO!!! MERRY XMAS
