Another great one from the Turtles ❤❤
I loved this version of Dylan's song. I was a teenager when this came out.
Bob Dylan broke the 3 minute rule with his song ''Like a rolling stone''.
The 🐢 🐢 🐢 🐢 🐢 🐢'S Thank's you'll love them again, Peace 😊✌️ and Love ❤ your 70 year old forever Young Hippie Gary💃 🕺❤🕺 💃 the Turtle's 🐢 🐢 🐢 🐢 🐢 🐢'S Great Reaction👍
Another of the 60's greats which I remember so happily.
I saw the Turtles in the early 90s at an "oldies" band concert. I don't even remember who the other bands were, but the Turtles were very entertaining and sounded great.
Such passion in the words, as delivered! I can't live up to your expectations. You think far more of me than I think of myself. "I'm not the one you want, babe. I'll only let you down." It's a tragically sad song, because he's singing it to someone who loves him. Wonderful!
I imagine "It Ain't Me Babe" in apposition to Linda Ronstadt's "Long, Long Time", a song of unrequited love: "I can't say you hurt me, when you never let me near."
Listen to both songs, back to back, and tears will flow.
One of the great choruses of all time.
This song came out in 1965 when I was a senior in high school. We used to go to one specific pizza place that played all the current hits on the radio. This got a lot of play and it always brings back happy memories of my high school days as a teenager. Great reaction. Take care.....
I was a senior also. Such fun music in 1964/65
Other early songs by the Turtle's even include "Eve of Destruction", "You Baby, " "Let Me Be" all before their big hit "Happy Together." You're right about the harmonies being so good, I love the sound of the mid sixties folk rock sound with the electric 12 string guitar.
One of my favorite groups!
Johnny Cash did a version of this song too. ❤😊
👏👏👏 My favorite Turtles song!
Elenore is another great one by them. There are so many!!!!
Love this song and The Turtles version!
The fact of the matter is that most of Dylan's biggest hits were covered by someone else. Except for Dylan fanatics, most people know his music thru interpretations of other artists. But in the end, these songs are his creations, and credit must be given to him.
The "3 minute rule" for radio was a real thing since radio airplay was determinative for making a song a hit. However, many hit songs had longer versions on the album and FM radio began to provide a longer form format where the longer album versions would get played. It was a most interesting time for music.
Another excellent Turtles song is "Eleanor". Amazing vocal + harmonies.
"You Showed Me" is a bit psychedelic
as I recall + worth a listen
Flo n Eddie sang in Frank Zappa's band for about 1-1/2 years. They recorded some crazy stuff.
Yes, LOVE IT! I enjoy Bob's version as it's the original but this version is awesome! I play it on guitar and my girl's sing.
If you want a longer and more heartfelt version I would suggest the original Dylan version of the album Another Side of Bob Dylan. The story behind the song I am sure will be captured in the upcoming biopic A Complete Unknown starring Timothy Chalamet as a young Bob Dylan
Alwasy prefer the OG, BOb Dylan's version but this is good. Johnny Cash also covered this as well as a few other Dylan songs.
They did this song beautifully
This was a great radio version! I still love Bob's version the best...
I haven't heard this one probably since the time it first came out. Great song when music and vocals were pure and simpler.
I'd love to see your reaction on another 60s band that I think you would like, The Rascals or originally The Young Rascals. Here's a few tunes that you may enjoy, A Beautiful Morning, Good Lovin', I've Been Lonely Too Long, Groovin', How Can I Be Sure A Girl Like You.
Dylan had one more verse to this song.
👍 A short lived group from late 60s but many very good songs. Two great singers Flo & Eddie ( real names Mark & Howard
Songs: Elenore, You Showed Me, She Rather be With Me. Yes Andre, I believe the 60s had the most positive, upbeat songs
more turtles mark the lead singer has a great voice !
Bob Dylan's song writing was so incredibly good that everyone was covering them. Dylan was, however, not thrilled with the majority of these releases even though they were making him big bucks. When he heard The Turtles version of "It Ain't Me Babe," he was quite impressed and sat front row in one of their concerts. Another rarity for Dylan. Gee, I think your reaction was swell!
That's interesting.Thanks for the info 😊💚
The songs needed to be short also for the jukeboxes that were in bars and restaurants. Longer songs meant less money.
Feel good up beat song 😊
Along with Bob Dylan's version, Johnny Cash and June Carter do one as well
Joan Baez does the best version of this in my opinion cause she emotes so well and captures how I believe Dylan intended it. This is good musically though and I get why it’s popular.
Funny how, besides it sounding like a lover's lament, the lyrics can also apply to American youth's disillusionment with those running the country, namely those who were about to send young men off to die in Vietnam. "To protect you and defend you whether you are right or wrong." "Someone to close his eyes for you, Someone to close his heart, Someone to die for you and more."
Well Andrei I don't know if it was a happy era, but it was a very innocent, hip, and experimental era.....lol....
It is a wonderful song for you The search is over by survivor And another good song is there will be sad songs by billy ocean
Speaking of Dylan covers that other artists made their own, you should check out Peter, Paul, and Mary doing "Blowing in the Wind".
Classic break up song!
This is the kind of Dylan song that you should do the hit version then the Dylan version, they are short.
And work is done for the week. I am going to listen to your Doobie Brothers reaction again. 🚬 Then I will listen to the rest of music!!!
Although I like the Turtles and their version is good, I prefer the original Bob Dylan.
BRYAN FERRY AND JOHNNY AND JUNE CARTER CASH VERY GOOD COVERS
Joan Baez does a good rendition of this.
If I recall this was not a big hit until Sonny and Cher covered it ?????????????
The reason it's short is they don't do the 3rd verse.
I hadn't heard this cover. Bob Dylan's is much better for me. With Bob Dylan's the verses are really the really harsh parts while the chorus is like a frustrated refrain of something he's already said. There's a third verse with the lines "to gather flowers constantly and to come each time you call" and the line "and anyway, I'm not alone."
It isn't me ether
The Bob Dylan original is MUCH better .This one is too pretty and soft . I prefer Dylan's grit .
This is good, but not my favourite Turtles track. I much prefer Bob Dylan’s original and Joan Baez’ cover.
Most of Dylan's songs were more successful by others because often they were better singers. Bob was a great songwriter, but his voice was sometimes pretty nasal and monotone.
This really is a very poor 2nd best to Bob Dylan's original
