Yep! They did this to express what the characters want the songs to be. Noel wished this was a song about his life, so it’s a lament, and vice-versa for Jane! 😊
fun fact: the line "my life's one never-ending carnival" in the chorus is in reference to the fact that he died on a fairground, and he's also super nihilistic so of Course he would reference his own death
It could also be referencing Carnaval, the time between the 12th night of Christmas and Mardi Gras. It’s a very French thing. There’s a ton of big events and parties happening, as Mardi Gras is the last day before Ash Wednesday, the start of Lent. “A whirl of boozy floozy flashing light” is definitely giving me Carnaval.
For anyone wondering, the thing the others are chanting at the end is as followed: Broken hearts, a flask of Gin Tattooed with a safety pin Teeth all stained with nicotine Running nylons, shattered dreams Super crusty, holy terror Wild eyes, and black mascara Also can't wait till you get to the new birthday song, it's super sweet and takes place right after the ballad of jane doe
One thing about Noel's Lament-- I LOVE the way he pronounces words. The vowel sounds almost sound like a Boston or a New York accent and they're just SO SATISFYING and full sounding.
In the Priest scene I love when he says oui, tell him that like, I choose to burn out rather than fade awayy. With a little french accent like, a french woman speaking english. Cuz he wanted to be a hooker in France, instead of Canada.
You can also see that the other character's roles in his song have to do wit how much he likes them. Ocean mainly stays in th e back because he hates her, while Mischa is VERY prominent in the song.
honestly the screaming theory makes a lot of sense. i’m pretty sure jane doe’s is true (as in a cast member confirmed that it’s supposed to be her screaming), especially considering that the way she’s flying is supposed to replicate the path of the rollercoaster. I think the others might all have it too. I mean, at the end of every single character song, there’s a HUGE high note that they all do (it might be more obvious in the cast recordings) right at the end of the song. I know that’s pretty typical for musical theatre songs, but idk, considering the theme of this show, I think it could def be possible. very excited for you to see the high note in space age bachelor man!!
Oh 100%. The character songs except This Song Is Awesome are the only songs that end with that super high note. Fall Fair Suite/Uranium Suite, Every Story’s Got A Lesson, The New Birthday Song, and It’s Not A Game/It’s Just A Ride don’t. That has to be intentional.

It helps to know he is the one actor who begsn in that role from earliest stages of the shows development through to this performance being recorded. This is his number. He owns it entirely. Could probably do it in his sleep by that point including the moves on the chair in heels.
The comment about him doing this all in heels reminded me of something else - the wig! The wig staying on during his whole thing of rolling around and spinning, after he flipped it onto his head in two seconds, is crazy! yeah and to my knowledge and in a few videos i’ve seen, noels lament stayed pretty similar, at least compared to the other songs, so he had more time to master the song and didn’t have to go through too many changes
Lots of people recommending rtc songs (and they're right, they're all bangers) so I'll throw in Fall Fair Suite, the opening number/one of the only ensemble numbers. There are several versions of the opening number throughout the years - Uranium Suite is the one that made it onto the cast album, but I thought I'd let you know that if you're ever looking and get confused by the multiple versions, Fall Fair Suite is the one from the production you've been watching (and my personal fave)! It's super cool to see them all sing together

You comparing his voice to Tarzan is great-I’ve harbored the pet theory that he does that growly voice bc he’s trying to imitate a chain smoking film noir lady by mimicking a smoker’s rasp during the “speaking” parts. Also, I imagine that’s easier for the actor to keep up than trying to hold a higher “feminine” voice for a monologue.
Hella late and someone probably already pointed this out but the line “10 times in his back” is a direct reference to cell block tango Just a neat little fact
Yay! I haven’t watched this yet (typing this as I’m watching the intro) but I’m so glad you got to Noel’s Lament! My favorite (tied with The Ballad of Jane Doe)!!
I feel like that other section you're thinking about sounds like Fiddler on the Roof in the upbeat sections. Think like "If I was a rich man yabidibidibi, etc." Kinda points back to this all being something that he's wishing in his head. At least that's my interpretation of those sections, of course that could just be the accordions, some of his runs, and later tambourines making me feel that way. 😅
The bottom of his heels were most likely sandpaper or nail filed for extra traction. Actors in my highschool Drama club do that once shoes start losing traction on stage. Well everyone but one of the actors, he just slides around once his shoes start losing traction, it's funny to see, especially when he plays a clumsy character.
I love watching the technical breakdowns of these songs so much. I'm trying to get better at singing and since this is one of my favorites, I've got a much better understanding of *how* to sing it more
I've only ever heard the screams of the cyclone disaster referenced in Jane Doe's song and not in Noel's, but now that I know that theory exists and it could be in all the songs, I hear it most in Ocean's (What The World Needs) and Ricky's (Space Age Bachelor Man). I can sort of hear it in Mischa's second song (Talia) and I'll need to listen to Constance's again to find it (Jawbreaker/Sugarcloud) but daaaamn. Yep, ok, I've fallen in love with this musical all over again. As everyone else is recommending the other character songs, I'll throw in Fall Fair Suite (which is an ensemble piece from the production you're watching - it got changed to Uranium Suite in the cast album) and also It's Not A Game/It's Just A Ride. One of my first interactions with Kholby was him commenting on me saying how I wish I trusted anything the way he trusts the wig at the 7:58 marker. He said it was theater magic🤣👏🏾
Been loving your reactions!! It's so difficult to pick a favorite out of all of these songs just because they're all SO different, but so good in different ways! I'd like to throw my hat in the ring for another suggestion-- I assume you're going to get to each one eventually, but I haven't really seen anyone mention Sugar Cloud yet. It's the final "solo" song of the show and super catchy and fun, but also strangely emotional? It also showcases Lillian Castillo's beautiful voice and I would LOVE to hear what you have to say about it!
What I found really cool was in a few songs it has a part where there is a build up in the pitch and slides down quickly to kind of represent their deaths and how they fell to their deaths but in the song “its not a game/its just a ride” it doesn’t have that bc they’re fantasizing about what would’ve happened if they didn’t die and it leaves it at the top before they scream in joy if you’re watching the stage performance or it leaves it there if you’re just listening to the recorded song.
What I appreciate about this song as I do for Ballad of Jane Doe is the multitude of different musical styles. This one has Traditional Jazz on Brodway to almost the style of some of the traditional Yiddish and Hebrew Songs. These two separate realms mold together in such a wonderful and smooth way. Definitely love this musical because of every range and different genre you see in each song tapping in to each side of Broadway
5:18 just a cute little detail in the performance, but Misha actually mouths the "I think I am in love with you" here too! It's small, but I think it grounds the scene
Haha 😂 I did. Pros and cons. Pros- he’s a great communicator. Cons- he’s a great communicator lol it’s made himself real talkative and he’s always letting me know something 🤣👏
After you fulfill everyone's desire for space age bachelor man, you should definitely do what the world needs so you can continue on your ride the cyclone journey.
It sounded like you were saying "never ending carnivore", just wanted to say it's never ending carnival since RTC is where the teens died at a fair ground/carnival
you should do what the world needs next, what’s most impressive to me about that one is it’s pacing, literally no time to breathe but she does it so well! (lots of good acting too)

The video played on their screen is Jane Doe''s life :) ) th-cam.com/video/KIvViQ59GdE/w-d-xo.html Fall fair suite (this song is at the beginning of the musical)
Some good ones are what the word needs, fall fair, uranium suite' (btw for the ver your watching the beginning song would be fall fair but the office cast record it's uranium suite)
Also there's space age Bachelor man (witch is really good) but sense a lot of people are all ready requesting it i didn't mention it in the og coment!!
i would be interested in seeing you react to another Jane Doe posted by Pac-man tattoo. after you get through what you want to get through of course, but this performance is very different than the one you already reacted to! it has less of a choral sound and i would just find it very interesting to see what you have to say about it :]

Definitely love this musical because of every range and different genre you see in each song tapping in to each side of Broadway
i’ve been waiting for this one fr 🙏
Sorry to make you wait so long! I hope it’s worth the wait!
Kholby Wardell is honestly goals. I don't know what my voice will sound like yet, but I hope to keep some of my higher register as well
i think you would really like the opening song which is "fall fair suite" it has some fun vocal moments
5:18 just a cute little detail in the performance, but Misha actually mouths the "I think I am in love with you" here too! It's small, but I think it grounds the scene
@@marveludus so cute!
14:29 he might be tbh! they did rehearse this until it was as good as the directors wanted it to be (aka literally perfect)
I want his vocal range so much.
thank u so much for reacting to this!!! so interesting to see how they do these performances
I love the”outside” from the dog
YOU TAUGHT YOUR DOG TO PRESS BUTTONS!!!!! AHHHHHBH❤❤❤
Haha 😂 I did. Pros and cons. Pros- he’s a great communicator. Cons- he’s a great communicator lol it’s made himself real talkative and he’s always letting me know something 🤣👏
"never ending carnivore"
😂😅
“Never ending carnivore” hehe
🤣 I swore he was saying that at first 🤣 may be a hidden theory there!
After you fulfill everyone's desire for space age bachelor man, you should definitely do what the world needs so you can continue on your ride the cyclone journey.
Psst 🤫 how did you know that?
@@singwithAshley just a gut feeling
after you finish ride the cyclone you should really react to the sung through musical falsettos! its so good and underrated
YESSSSS
Love Falsettos, particularly relate to “I’m breaking down”
It sounded like you were saying "never ending carnivore", just wanted to say it's never ending carnival since RTC is where the teens died at a fair ground/carnival
Lol yes I did, and Caught myself haha
You can't not forgive that fur baby! Love Noel and Noels Lament...
this makes me so happy, RTC is my biggest interest atm so these are so fun to watch LMAO
you should do what the world needs next, what’s most impressive to me about that one is it’s pacing, literally no time to breathe but she does it so well! (lots of good acting too)
I’ve been praticting that high note for a few minutes aaawwawa it’s so hard but it’s awesome! kholby does it really well
I LOVE BEING EARLY 💖💖💖 Also you may have made me want to get into choir and more music stuff :D
Do it! If you are in love with this musical, then you are probably missing your calling!
the cow bells for the censors are taking me out😭😭😭
This is great ! I visited your channel a couple of days ago looking for a new one of these. I'm glad you're continuing them!
Glad you like them! More to come!
"Why are they always taking off their clothes?" I wonder that too sometimes.
My favourite day of the week is when these videos come out

th-cam.com/video/nrpOhVsZDuU/w-d-xo.html It's not a game (I think. This song is at the end of the musical. The video played on their screen is Jane Doe''s life :) )
th-cam.com/video/KIvViQ59GdE/w-d-xo.html Fall fair suite (this song is at the beginning of the musical)

Or how do you think it will go
WISH YOU LUCK !!!
Sooooo much of the songs have vocal exercises in them because they were a choir
Very cute Luck Dragon you have! 🙂

13:47 I think the thumping on his chest is supposed to match with the drum beats if you can hear the drums || *i watched this like 100 times*
You should totally listen to this song is awesome
You gotta do what the world needs lol. I wanna see your reaction
Never apologize for Falkor
Yay! Love the reaction! 😀
Kinda wanna see you react to the entire musical lol
Trying to figure out how! But it would be so fun!
are you planning on doing all of the songs from ride the cyclone? id love to see it!!
I’m buckled in on the Cyclone! Hopefully I don’t end up with a screaming solo of my own at the end !
Im so excited
i would be interested in seeing you react to another Jane Doe posted by Pac-man tattoo. after you get through what you want to get through of course, but this performance is very different than the one you already reacted to! it has less of a choral sound and i would just find it very interesting to see what you have to say about it :]
I would like to see that too!
I love that theory though
Also it’s carnival not carnivore 😭
😂 yes! Notice how he aimed for carnivORE sound instead of CarnivUHL. I did say carnivore at first however 😂 but when I really focused on the lyrics you can hear me say Carnival 😂😂❤🎉
PLEASE DO WHAT THE WORLD NEEDS NEXT PLEASE
So close!
