why does a committee need to figure this out, and not the owners of the buildings?

Or maybe it’s because crime, homelessness, and drug addiction is running wild in Portland and these businesses no longer want to deal with it. These poor excuse of ‘city leaders’ don’t have the gull to do anything about it or overturn these progressive policies that landed us here in the first place.

Because they need to figure out how to change zoning laws to allow different types of occupancy. Right now it’s strictly for commercial use, when there’s such affordable housing vacuum it would be great if the zoning changed so they could open thing up for residents. But honestly, don’t have much faith they’ll actually rent them out for a reasonable price.

IMO we need to reclaim housing and buildings from corporate speculation at the city's expense.

Good, we need more people to move away. Portland is way too crowded. Anyone that’s lived here more then 20yrs would agree.

We might need to subdivide some of the larger offices so as to attract more and smaller businesses. Just a thought.

It's funny how when the market moves in a direction that doesn't fit the established narrative the establishment refuses to adjust. People don't want to spend their lives commuting and wasting their time in cubicles. Time to move on and find new uses for these building.

So downtown was crime and safety more than the horrible taxes. That’s something we can fix. At least we could prevent some of our tax base from leaving!

There is Some value to going back in for the sake of training and in-person collaborative meetings, but for my particular job, 80% of the time, there is no up-side to going into downtown. It's costly, adds an hour to my workday, and brings with it the potential threat of a density of criminal presence in that area west of Old Town.

Some rent money is better than no rent money (I think?)
If they offered low enough rates to new tenants people WILL come.
-Random taco shop on the 12th floor.
-Dry cleaners on the 9th floor.
-Micro apts on the 17th floor.
-Welding shop occupying a few other floors. Etc etc.

Good luck finding any maintenance for these places. Everyone I know in the industry refuses to work downtown. Its the Homeless and Druggies coupled with law enforcement forgetting measure 11 in Multnomah county which would rid the streets of the criminals that is a huge part of the problem. Then we have the annoying woke people nobody normal wants to work with. Portland isnt coming back. Has a embarrassing reputation .

I dont understand why people have to work in an office. They dont. I wont ever again. Sorry not sorry. We need housing instead.

Economics isn't that hard to understand, and why that wouldn't work or why that will not happen. Complaining doesn't change who you put into office. They want this crisis. Cant be that blind.
