When I was in college I worked at a kart track. We had a regular customer who drove one of these. One day he bet me that if I could beat his lap time, he'd let me drive it. I did, and he actually let me beat the piss out of it. To this day, it remains one of my favorite driving experiences and the only Ferrari I've ever driven.
Kennans reviews are the reviews we didn’t know we needed! When he first started it was a little rough, but he has improved immensely in such a short amount of time. Impressive !
I love how Kennan explains what the sport button does to the suspension. Meanwhile, Doug just says “Why does a Ferrari V12 need a sport button?” Kennan should buy this car to replace the 355. No engine out service is a plus.
Love the 550, the most gorgeous "modern" gt ever made!! With a direct exhaust is perfect! These wheels are not aftermarket, they are the 575 HGTE wheels!
Proud owner of a higher mile example from the time they were less recognized, and can confirm they are sweet mechanical cars. One thing about this platform (the 456 does the same) is that it really rewards you driving it soft or hard. The engine is a pure masterpiece and the chassis is very good. Yes it’s Italian so it needs love and care all the time, but parts (thanks to the active community on the Ferrari chat forum a lot of interchangeable parts) are not that expensive and the car is easy to work on. It never broke down, also because I love looking after her. Ps the steering weight can be changed! There’s different modules on the market that change the assistance curve and it’s a five minute job to change to or from original. And last but not least Kennan: there’s a book I can recommend highly: Nathan Beehl - the Ferrari 550 and 575 Road and Race legends.
Love that you went back and clarified *examples as opposed to models. Great attention to detail with the occasional flub. Another great video! Thank you.
This was my dream car as a kid (and still is frankly). I’m really enjoying seeing these in-depth videos of the cars I had on my wall when I was young. The knowledge and enthusiasm come through in a unique way, love to see it 👍
I came here to say this! There is a sincerity in the way he searches for the right words to say what he's thinking that is missing from Doug's more recent vids.
@@ThePhaedrus505 Yeah, I've been a loyal Doug subscriber since 2015, but he's become insufferable at times. The worst thing Doug did for his channel was when he started making videos with some of his friends. He comes across as so arrogant when he speaks to Kenneth or Tyler Hoover (Hoovie). Like Doug always cuts them off when they speak, and Doug's opinions are ALWAYS correct. He's just annoying. There was always a mystery to the way he filmed his normal videos......he kept most of his true personality out of them. Unfortunately, his true colours shows when he interacts with others. He was clearly the kid in the playground who needed to be the center of attention
@@SpartanHighKing14 I've also noticed the arrogance, but it doesn't bother me. In fact, the sincere character trait is refreshing for the same reason that Kennan's sincerity is refreshing. There's also that whole "familiarity breeds contempt" truism, and maybe it's just nice seeing someone else's enthusiasm for cars!
Very good overview but I gotta be honest, there goes my dreams of ever buying one. This car has been popping up everywhere these days. First the 930 turbo and now the 550. It's going to be the next youtuber car.
A great presentation of a wonderful car! The Ferraris 550 and 575 are amazing GT cars. An unbelievable pleasure to drive these cars! And congratulations - you are one of the few english speaking persons who is able to pronounce his name right "Luca di Montezemolo" 🙂
Always happy to see the 550 getting a love-in, and this one is better than most. A few notes - those magnesium wheels were subject to a recall and were replaced. There are still some in circulation but they should not go on a car, as they are dangerous. The leather also I believe is NOT Connolly, which was Ferrari's supplier of the time (and did the F355 etc). They went out of business, so there's a chance a 550 MIGHT have Connolly leather in, but it might also be from Poltrona Frau, with whom Ferrari still work.
Awesome car and knowledgable presenter. Nice combo! On the long hood: Back in the day I went up to Ferrari Los Gatos and saw the new BB512 and couldn't believe how ginormous the rear deck lid was. Ferraris seem bigger in person and V12s are just physically large engines.
Kennan is a great addition to the Doug DeMuro universe of car knowledge. Like Doug, he is a wealth of knowledge and very pleasant to learn from. Keep up the good work.
I JUST SAW ONE out on the highways of suburban Boston being driven amidst heavy afternoon traffic in this exact color scheme.... dark blue with tan interior and I was soooooo tempted to start following the dude home. It's probably been 10 years since I've seen one on the roads and it'll probably be another 10 til I see one again... a total unicorn car and one of my all time favorites.
Great review and great car again , Kennan! Love your style. FYI do you know why Pozzi (as in blue Pozzi)? Charles Pozzi was the French importer for Ferrari for decades. I used to hang out at his Paris store when I was a kid…dream in front of 512BB, 400 and Testarossa 😛
Hey Kennan. Great video. What an awesome looking car collection you are shooting in front of. Can you show a pic of that 928? Is it lime green? Looks wild!
I bought a 550 11 years ago and at the time I thought it was the stupidest financial decision I'd ever made in my life. Lucky me...I couldn't afford it today. That's a shame since they are glorious cars to drive.
3:48 It's not that 'wild' that the average speed was so high because they averaged speed over DISTANCE, which means that as the car drove very short distances when slowing down and pitting, and a LOT of distance at full speed, most of the total driving distance was covered at speed.
this car looks great from ANY angle, it's amazing. these wheels make it look even better. beautiful colour, too. i don't like this car in red. this elegant gt needs a less in-your-face paintjob, like this one.
These days, a 550 in a darker colour is a car for a connoisseur, not a self-indulgent wiener. More under the radar too than you'd expect, one of those cars that's like, if you know, you know.
So disappointing to see how this auction ended. I’m glad the seller is no longer allowed on the site but the damage has been done. Especially for such a special car.
Certainly, one of the best looking Ferrari's ever built in my book. A car that doesn't just scream "Exclusivity and Wealthy only dammit". A Ferrari that actually looks like other regular cars, just sexier and much "cooler" reminding one of the beauty that is also found in cars like Austin Martin and the Toyota Supra. Yes, Form follows Function. But at $100,000 or $200,000 I think a car should include both.
Not sure how much Doug has to do with this or not but it's obviously scripted very much similar to how he speaks. Which is okay I mean it works right he's the one who put this whole gig together right . But just two cents from the peanut gallery, I'd like to see some of these up-and-coming writers script everything on their own without any of Doug's quirk and influences so to speak. LOL either way great content and you guys still have a bang-up team regardless thumbs up 👍
Not sure why Doug reviews this old fart but never a Ferrari 458, one of the most incredible cars of all time. Even today people pay thousands just to drive it for 1 day.
Kennan, you should start eating clean and incorporate cardio and strength training into your routine. You're young brother and the gut won't go away on its own. No one wants to hear this but it's true. You will feel a lot better physically and mentally

Keenan has to wear black shirts only. Any other color does not look as good

Agree 100%
I feel the same way. Some awkwardness in his first reviews, but he’s much more confident now. Very nice job, indeed.
I love how Kennan explains what the sport button does to the suspension. Meanwhile, Doug just says “Why does a Ferrari V12 need a sport button?” Kennan should buy this car to replace the 355. No engine out service is a plus.
Listening to Kennan's overflowing enthusiasm for ferrari is a lot of fun. I can feel good passion through the phone. Keep up the good work!
The stat about averaging 190 over 100 miles is mind blowing. Kennans Ferrari reviews are always my favorite, thanks for the vid!
Love the 550, the most gorgeous "modern" gt ever made!! With a direct exhaust is perfect! These wheels are not aftermarket, they are the 575 HGTE wheels!
HGTC, I believe. HGTE was the 599 handling option.
Actually, those are aftermarket. They look very, very close to the HGTC, but those rear wheels are too deep to be factory/OEM.
The DBS from 06-09 is right along with it for me

Thank you for the great comment
These cars are so good. Underappreciated for sure.
Probably one of the last front engine modern Ferrari’s I’ve liked. Such a clean car.
Love that you went back and clarified *examples as opposed to models. Great attention to detail with the occasional flub. Another great video! Thank you.
I'm positively in love with the 550 Maranello.
Kennan knows his stuff. The information pours forth from him effortlessly, doesn’t miss a beat. I can see the passion and I’m here for it.
Kennan, You're the best! Love your knowledge and enthusiasm!
One of my favorite Ferraris of all time. It's elegant but gives off big ol muscle car vibes

Kenan tells me all the details I absolutely NEED to know about cars I can only dream of owning. And somehow, he's also truly entertaining.
Ditto
Kennan reminds me of how humble and quirky Doug used to be before Cars n Bids became a multi-million dollar company (so pre-2021 Doug)

This Kenan guy is gold. Really one of the best reviewers out there

Perfect timing as I just rediscovered my love of the 575 Superamerica and I would add a yellow 550 Maranello with it !
“Positively” is Kennan’s new favorite adverb. I’m positive.
This and the F50 are the dream ferraris for me among pretty much any ferrari..
