Arctis Nova Pro Wireless sounded great. I've heard reports of them not getting loud enough compared to Wired but once you click the high Gain setting in the software and bump the additional dB up in the individual tabs they get very loud and retain their clarity. Musically, I was impressed. In gaming they really shine. Tons of detail retrieval and layering, these will stand up against your $200 audiophile grade headphones for sure. I returned my ANPW due to fitment issues and have no regrets but I do wish they could bring the weight down on these headsets and provide a more universal fit. The stupid elastic headband design needs to GO on ALL of these headsets. It always squirms around on the head and slides forward for me -- I've tried 3 different ones now. The nub inside the ANPW is terrible and you do feel it. I even bought Wicked Cushions immediately to remedy this and while the bump was not as noticeable the clamping force is just so weak on these headsets it's always sliding forward.
Out of the entire lineup I think if you can score the Arctis Nova Pro WIRED for $200 it is the best pick of the bunch. I've owned wireless for a year and while it has its advantages I don't think they are worth it. The heaviness of the headsets, the poor mic quality (HS80 is the exception), lower quality audio, cheaper design leave a lot to be desired. With wire you have one disadvantage and then literally the rest are upside if you can deal with the wire. Your teammates can wait to hear your voice while you while you pee, I promise.

You did a great job covering these in such depth. Best I've seen on TH-cam. I ended up picking up the Nova Pro Wired. The software seems really great and the headset is high quality but I had a lot of issues, mainly that there isn't a simple headphone/speakers toggle. It would output sound to both at the same time. I thought I must be going crazy, like there has to be a way. I searched online and through the SteelSeries discord but no luck. Ultimately it didn't work out for me so I had to return them.

I thought if you set up the line out from Stream to Speakers it would send your game mix out at full volume. That's how it worked on mine at least. I was able to use both at the same time. Sorry to hear it didn't work out Rory!

@@GadgetryTech Yeah I'm kinda bummed too honestly. I can't figure out what the use case would be for having sound come through both your external speakers and your headset. @@GadgetryTech awe man.. just got the Nova 7P for my PS5 but now I feel like I got the wrong one now Lol. I don’t play Xbox and I don’t own a PC currently… but thinking of getting a gaming PC later. Would the Nova 7P wireless work wirelessly on PC or did I get the wrong version? Fyi… this is the most I’ve spent (on sale $155 Best Buy) on a gaming headset ever. I’m replacing a 7yr old $50 wired/Turtle Beach PS4 headset that recently died. Good breakdown of the differences between the headsets. I ended up buying a Nova 7, and so far based on the sound alone (haven't tested the mic yet), I'm pretty happy. The only thing I'm not thrilled about is the hinge style they've put on the Nova 7's and Pro's... it's creates a point where the headset will break easier, as it doesn't look too sturdy. Should have stuck to the double sided attachment points, because this hinge style seems like a huge design flaw.

Such a great vid! Have a question though. I just bought the nova 3 and the 7p+ for my ps5. As someone who doesn’t care about wired or wireless. Is the nova series an upgrade over the older artics lineup from a sound perspective. As someone who had a attics 7 and loved it. Also a great vid idea might be if you can explain what headphones are best if you only want to use a 3.5mm to a controller. A lot of the time I feel vids don’t explain that well enough. Just an idea but thanks for the vids! Big fan of your content!

Thanks so much Luis!! For me, the EQ tuning is better on the Nova series as a whole. Some people may like the Arctis sound more, which had stronger mid-bass, whereas the Nova is a more accurate bass that also hits deeper frequencies. I will be doing many more videos for ideas like what you said, as I think they are super important!

Thank you for the info. I do have a question tho about the Nova pro's. You said that the Wired version sounds slightly better then the wireless version. I was curious as to the extent of difference in the sound because the wired version is Hi Res certified but the wireless isn't. If you were to number just how much better the sound is on the wired version what would be it. For example lets say the wired version is 8.7 on sound quality, would that mean the wireless is more like a 8.2? with 10 being the best sound you can get. I know it's probably a silly question but i'm having are very hard time deciding on which one to buy, because I really want the best sound I can get, but at the same time, the noise cancelling on the wireless is something i'm very interested in having. i've watched both your in depth reviews for each and I'm still really torn on which to buy. Thank you for your videos and input.

I have Tech question for you Good Sir GadgetryTech.
While the Pro Wireless has alot of extras that i dont need: noise cancelling, GameDac fuctions, 20h battery swaps.
The Nova 7/x 🙌 has everything i need.
BUT thinking about sound quality makes me consider the Pro Wired too, it is somehow better right?
I know wired will sound better than wireless in most cases.
What if i use my Nova 7x wired, with leather pads (for the "best" sound) it would be comparable to the Nova Pro Wired? 😅
And hypothetically a Nova 7x (with leather pads) and wired on GameDac would be = Nova Pro Wired? 🤯
or the Pros have a better hardware on the Headset itself that makes it in fact superior and sound better? 🤔
You already did this kind of comparation?
Thank you for the Amazing Reviews 🙏

Hey I know this is a late response, but essentially the biggest reason is that the aux port on the controllers are very weak as there isn't much room to add extra amp power or delivery. Plus, the sound comes from the console, wirelessly so it does get somewhat compressed and degraded versus wired, then it goes to the controller, and out the port to ur headset. So there is a fair amount of compressing and uncompressing and transferring that happens, that's why wireless head phones that plug directly into ur console sounds better cause theres less steps the audio had to go thru to get to ur headphones

    Hey, I wonder,
1 - What are those sound quality differences between the wired and wireless nova pro headsets? Like the distortion of the sound etc?
2 - Could those sound quality differences be a very strong reason to buy wired one?

    Thanks in advance :)

  • @MrDutch1e

I wonder if theres really that much difference between the pro models and the lower end or if a lot of it is just the leather ear pads. Leather makes a huge difference in bass response and slightly more distance from the driver can give that feeling of a more open spacial sound.

Should I stick with the Nova 7P or take it back and get the Nova Pro? I like the idea of hot swapping batteries and I’m just getting into sound profiles now. @@greg6162 so I've had these Nova Pro Wireless (playstation version) for several months now and have been using them with my PS5 for several hours almost daily. I definitely get the rated battery life (and then some) because I don't really need the ANC given my environment and how well they naturally block sounds with the ANC off. I also keep the passthrough audio off, and about 50/50 on when I have Bluetooth also connected. This headset is truly worth the month ($350 retail). I went in a local store and bought them for $250 because I managed to convince the sales manager to apply the$100 off discount from a few months ago which was only for the XBox. If you don't mind the green, grab the Xbox version if it's on sale..... But I'll never own an Xbox. As for comfort, I'm still having zero issues with the original ear pads, but at least the aftermarket option is available now if you find you need them.
I haven't used the Nova Pro Wired or the Nova 7P, but based on the reviews/testing Joe has been releasing for them.... I've still been recommending them to my friends and based on my experience with my nova Pro Wireless. The hot swappable battery was a game changer for me. I find myself many times forgetting that my battery was in for a week or so and then switching it mid game when I hear the beep. Basically no downtime is great. If you want the wireless feature without the $350 expense, I say grab the more affordable Nova 7P Wireless for $180ish. If you want a wired headset and all the extra fidelity get the Nova Pro Wired and then save for a nice DAC to really take advantage of the headset. However, you'll probably be spending 350ish all said and done.... And I'm guessing you might not notice the difference if you spent the same 350 on the Nova Pro Wireless.. hopefully that helps.

Hello, new subscriber here (subscribed in a video of yours i watched the other day). Question for ya. How much better is the sound from the nova 7x ($180) vs the $350 dollar Nova pro's. Yes you say they are better sounding... but is it jaw dropping better? or just maybe 2 or 3% better.... If all I care about (knowing these are already really comfortable) is if I spend the additional $150 dollars will I be happy.
My dog chewed up the mic on my wireless xbox brand headset the other day, so picked up the turtle beach stealth 700x Max (based off your last video). I feel the sound is maybe 3 to 5% better on the 700 x max vs the Wireless xbox headset, but I think the xbox headset is more comfortable, the steath they clamp a bit too hard and was really hoping for a more noticeable sound quality improvement than just 3 to 5%.
Should I return the turtle beach stealth 700 x Max, and put the $215 toward these wireless flagship Nova pros? Or am i not going to be "that" impressed with the sound quality bump?

Ooh that'a a tough one! The Nova Wireless could be the best, but if you like that thunderous/smooth sound for movies, you can't beat the H3Pro Hybrid. Totally different sound between the two, but both enjoyable for different reasons. I owned the H3Pro Hybrids for a year. They just randomly stopped working. Won't power on. Computer does not recognize them when plugged in via USB. Sent a ticket to EPOS support and they are not replacing them even though they were a year old at the time. The audio, mic, and comfort were tremendous but I cannot condone buying them after the crap I went through with them. The wireless connection would randomly drop and reconnect a few times over about 4 hours. If I left it plugged in and charge over night it would not work in the morning and I'd have to leave it sit, unplugged, for a few hours and then it would randomly power on for me. Not sure if I had a bad headset from the start or if EPOS quality control is garbage. There are numerous Reddit and forum posts where people are having the same exact issues I described.
If you do buy them then get a 2 year replacement warranty for them. You'll thank me later.

As we know, the Nova Pro wireless can still be connected via aux. How would the sound of the wireless connected via Aux compare to that actual nova pro wired ?

    • @GadgetryTech

Glad you liked it!! It sounds much worse via aux because it needs to have eq applied to sound the way it does. Using it as aux bypasses the EQ.

Hi, Can you tell me your opinion on what to buy choosing between Epos h6pro, Steelseries Nova Pro ?
I tried the new Astro A30 a couple of days ago but i did not like the sound and comfort.
I had the h6pro for a couple of months and i like the sound it has and the comfort was good not amazing but just good to me, but 2 weeks ago the mic stopped working on it so that made me question the long term quality luckily i was still able to return it.
Now i’m a little careful just getting another h6pro cause of the mic issue.
Whats your advice is the Nova pro worth it or is the h6pro better ?

It can technically work on PC, but PC will say it's an Xbox controller, and you won't be able to use Sonar's chat mix on PC. It will not work on PS5. Only the port labeled USB will work properly on PC and Playstation if you buy the Xbox version.

    • @GadgetryTech
      @GadgetryTech  ปีที่แล้ว +7

You can to an extent for sure. One issue is you can't change the exact frequency you're adjusting. Instead you are locked to specific numbers, with the ability to just change your dB. Some headsets have issues in specific frequency windows that if you try to fix it with Atmos, it can actually hurt the sound quality as well. It's still better than nothing though, and at least fixes headsets that are too bass heavy, or bass light, or overly sharp sounding!

I am looking for a headset for Ps5, watched like 1000 vids and can’t make a decision.. iam looking for a high end headset for fps games to get a maximum sound expierience for foodsteps and targeting.. should I buy the a40 tr without the mixamp and connect it to my controller, maybe wait till Astro release the next gen mix amp . or the nova pro wired? And are the Eq presets effective on Ps5 ?

    • @GadgetryTech
      @GadgetryTech  ปีที่แล้ว

Hi Markus! So right now I am waiting for the Astro A30 which shows up tomorrow. If you can wait a couple days, I will follow up on what I think the best options are for PS5. SS headsets, the Nova 3, 7, Pro Wired, and Pro Wireless all support saving custom EQ, but not the Sonar EQ settings. Your adjustments are limited but it still helps a lot. The Nova's are going to be tough to beat but there are good options for sure. Astro A40 is a little dated now but still great for FPS. VZR Model One could be the absolute best, but you won't have any controls for chat mix, as it just plugs in to your controller. I think the VZR Model One with the Astro Mixamp or a Schiit HEL2 is an ultimate FPS setup, but that will run over $500. The Nova Pro Wired is an amazing deal at $250 and I think it has better spatial awareness than the A40, even though you may or may not like the way it sounds more.

The price of both of the Nova pros is pushing the boundaries of what gaming headsets cost though. $250 for a wired gaming headset in 2024 is ridiculous though and they still haven’t dropped the price while all wireless gaming headsets dropped in price and now most good wireless headsets cost $250 or less. $350 for the nova pro wireless is a ridiculous price for a wireless gaming headset too. You can get audiophile headsets for the same price or less in 2024 like the Sundara’s for $150 for the closed back or $300 for the open back and you can get the Audeze Maxwells for $300. $350 for the Nova pros is really pushing it on the gaming side of the headset industry and it’s allowing other brands like Turtle beach to release a wireless headsets for over $300 which is insane because Turtle beach has always been the worst brand associated with gaming headsets and still is. Stop giving these gaming peripheral companies fuel to charge more money than what a headset is worth. It’s bad for the whole audio industry when you justify the price of a $250 wired gaming headset or a $350 wireless gaming headset. It’s 2024 now and gaming wireless gaming headsets never been so cheap. I am talking $100 can get you a wireless gaming headset and $245 gets you something like the Logitech G pro X 2 light speed wireless or $180 for the Virtuoso XT wireless. The best wired gaming headsets cost $100 to $120 and it’s only $120 if it comes with a feature that makes your head shake when hear explosions in games. Yea maybe the SteelSeries Arctis pro sounds a little better than the Razer BlackShark V2 but it shouldn’t cost 2 times and a half more money. That’s insane

Basically it's only uncomfortable for some. If you have rather flat ears, it shouldn't be an issue. Many people have had discomfort though because their ears are touching the mic inside. It gets uncomfortable pretty quickly. The pad swap with Wicked Cushions or similar brands are thicker, and as a result make it so the mic doesn't touch your ear any more. This is the best improvement comfort wise, but you need to do custom EQ after that so the headset still sounds as good. th-cam.com/video/TjucHIrWMDU/w-d-xo.html
