      But a career is not a promise. He got lucky, for many other people that'd just be exploitation. Exposure is not a guarantee to anything. Besides, we dont know if 175k is even a livable wage depending on where he lived... Over 3 years.

    I love that Orlando Bloom still knows how privileged he was to star in that masterpiece. It wasn't a lot of money for a big role in three movies, but to be a part of The Lord of the Rings? Most actors would do it for free if it got them the chance.

      To be fair when you go back and watch LOTR you don’t realise just how little Legolas is in it & speaks. Frodo doesn’t even say his name in that scene where they all reunite & the only line between Frodo and Legolas is “and my bow”

    He’s spot on. It is was a gift. Best story of all time and to be involved in that and get paid a decent sum for the pleasure, living the dream. I’d happily get paid for visiting New Zealand period.

      in hindsight.
      LotR nearly tanked as a film (had to do extensive reshoots), and he was typecast from there on.
      he was lucky to get PotC role which made him his money after that, good for him.
      Many of these actors must be a bit salty knowning how much money the movie made and how little they got from it. no residuals, no merch, no nothing.

    Filming started 1999 and wrapped after reshoots 2003 plus press and interviews. 175k isn’t that much. But he got a tattoo, memories for life, household name status and Pirates. Winner

    Sometimes it’s not about making the money. It’s about getting the opportunity. This opened the door to so many more projects. James Earl Jones was barely paid at all to do the voice of Darth Vader. And he’s thankful for it. It opened the doors for him to have a career.

    Even though he did not get a bigger paycheck compare to his co-stars that were already more established actors at that time. But Lord of The Rings opened so many acting opportunities for Orlando Bloom, it honestly put him in the map and catapulted him to the top at the beginning of his career compare to other actors and actresses that usually starts out with smaller roles and smaller productions.

    That first movie made MILLION$ of dollars and he only received $175,000 for All Three movies!?
    Which means he made $58,333.33333 per movie...it cost more for props than his paycheque alone!!
    Sad about the actual numbers, but humbling that he is honoured for getting the role regardless of the nonsense.

      I think hes saying that in comparison to big-budget movies with A-List actor salaries.
      Ironman made RD 500k for Ironman 1. 10 million for Ironman 2. And 70 million for Ironman 3...
      So in retrospect, 175k is not a lot in comparison to how big franchises can get and net an actor starring a major role.
