    Hailing from the age of satin silver and flowery bell engravings, the formidable Conn 21I is an excellent instrument featuring short-action pistons. While this instrument is unfortunately in too poor of condition to 'review' objectively, it is a beautiful time capsule that was still enjoyable to play when I had the chance to do so. The Artist line featured four similar instruments, with three to four valves and varying bell configurations. The 22I, with a forward bell and fourth valve, was the personal horn of choice of the venerable Leonard Falcone. You can hear him on his own 22I via the link below.

    Thanks for tuning in, everybody! Let me know whether you’d like to see more historical “showcases” like this one or more reviews of modern instruments!

    I hadn't played baritone since college in 1976. Covid brought me back. Started back on a Besson but was gifted a Conn 21i. So much easier for a 69 year old guy to blow. Get in line for your 22i/23i search. Not too many out there. Thanks for this video. Russ Utsler

      Thank you for your comment, Russ. I’m glad to hear you got back into playing and that the 21I helped. I’ll definitely be on the lookout once I’m earning a decent salary as a mechanical engineer.

    Scruffy Sam!
    Thank you for the opportunity to learn.
    I appreciate your sharing.
    Materials Analysis plus musical presentation. Finally using that degree?

      If you want to see scruffy, go back to my hour-long Christmas video! Immediately after that I got a haircut and trimmed the beard.
      Still working on the degree but hoping to involve more materials analysis in my videos. I think work hardening warrants its own video at some point…

    I have a 15i what’s the difference

    • @SamuelPlaysBrass
      @SamuelPlaysBrass  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That’s a good question. I thought this instrument was a 15I when I first filmed it (hence why I had to redo the speaking portion-I was VERY wrong). The 14I and 15I are similar looking to the 20I and 21I respectively. The 14/15 are student instruments, though. They usually just have a regular lacquer finish. The 20-23 models were “Artist” models: professional-grade instruments with satin silver finishes and heavier engraving. Conn’s student instruments are pretty solid, but their Artist line are easier to play and tend to be more in tune.
      Also, to add on, everything I talked about in this video about short-action valves, oval valve ports, etc. does not apply to the 15I. It was only featured on Conn’s higher-level instruments.

      I’ll admit, I can kind of see the similarities.
