Thank you, cool review! Appreciate your thorough look, the details do matter. Like the truck style-wise, looks smart going down the trail. Liked and enjoyed, also in 2023👍
Good to see you brought Tully for the trail walk. And some nice talk stuff, there is always something I pick up I feel I can learn from. I've done a bit of 4wd driving but never something I really studied, so I don't know that much. I do love when a car gets to an obstacle and then see how it reacts, it amazes me each time. Cool video as usual, I enjoy watching your stuff!
Thanks! Tully didn't get out far, this was all filmed around the house. But yep, she's ever present. Good dog, stays close even when we are in the bush. Good car, this, too. I'm going to use it a lot and am thinking I'll report back in a while with durability, longer term quirks and such, maybe an upgrade or two if needed. Cheers :)
How much is it? I think your 100% correct about running 2S. They last a long time & still have enough power for a 1:10 scale crawler. Brushless of course would be 3S. A good quality 2S lipo is definitely a nice option. My guess on the rock crawl test is going to be a not so good rating but I agree using it as a trail truck would be cool. Thanks for always having a different perspective then most RC channels that’s what makes it interesting & all your tips etc. are always tried & true. Spot on.
Thank you for your kind words :) I share your views on this and my expectation before the rock test was similar. I won't spoil the outcome by telling you how it went! For price, check the link in the description. Better this way because multiple currencies are involved so hitting the link will give you the correct, current and local price. (It's about 60% of a TRX4 Bronco, as a rough idea).
Greetings from US Montana...new subscriber...great videos... I like how you're not biased great review on the pioneer I bought one for Christmas this year and thank you for the new upgrade mods video that you did....thx
As always nice presentation of the features and your impression. 👍 I especially liked the observation about the gears and 2s. That is really helpful, with "small" technical notes like that about the trucks, that could save you some trouble (like the observation on the drivetrain in the Boom kit too in an earlier video). :) Keep it up. Oh, and I'm curious to see how it does on the problems. 👍
Liked and subscribed excellent video mate, love your work. I just bought a scx24 deadbolt and now I'm hooked on these thing's have a 2000 Jeep Cherokee scx10 ii coming in a few weeks can't wait!
@@RCTNT thanks for the feedback brother 🤘 . What you do is very important to the community.. buyers and potential buyers like myself need this kind of content to help direct us 🙂 thanks
Hi, you did a very eye opening review. Thanks. Doyou know whats different to the RGT 136100V3 Bronco, are there big gaps between these crawlers? Cheers
Happy to help! This is very different to the 136100 V3, yes. Bigger, different drive train, different handling, different light system, bigger power system. Check out my 2-part 136100 V3 review here: th-cam.com/video/4kGbux2WU_0/w-d-xo.html The 2nd part is linked at the end of the first one.
That's a tough one. I love all three. The EMO AT4 is probably my favourite and also probably the most capable out of the box. That's a hard one. Go with personal preference I guess.
What a beautiful trail rig, with the red/orange/yellow stripes it looks a bit like a Izuzu Trooper from the side. Seems like it has tons of potential and it comes with a lot of nice details and functions.
That's the best rgt have done so far and what a rig it is I'd definitely go out and buy this before I've even seen how it does on the 6 problems in fact I'm really thinking about getting one great video bud thanks for sharing this one 👍
Haha I'm sorry about your wallet but yep, it is a top rig. You'll get the Rock test on the 10th at the same time this dropped on the 5th. I don't want to spoil it but I will say this rig is best bought for general and trail use and it'll be capable enough to enjoy on rocks, but there are better choices for dedicated rock crawling. This is obvious from its length and all that extra weight - but it sure is a fun one! One of the most fun vehicles I own, actually! Cheers
@@RCTNT yeah looks a awesome rig bud I look forward to seeing it on the 10th that's what I use mine for really mainly trailing with a few obstacles along the way ive got the 10.3 at the mo but need to start getting some new rigs this is definitely one of them 😀
@@NoLimitRC87 sweet. The 10.3 is good, especially with a little weight down low. In April I'll be putting the Gladiator against the JL I've just built, here. Good cars.
@@RCTNT yeah love the scx10 platform I could of probably bought another 1 with everything I've spent on it haha but they put a smile on our faces so completely worth it 👌
Hey man! Was just looking on the RGT website and ran across the RGT Tracer Crawler. Definitely need to check it out of you haven't yet! I hope you get one so I can see a good review on it! Looks really interesting and I want one now lol
I just took a look at it now. You're not wrong, that's very cheap for what you get. I'm not too hot on the obvious IP theft but the value is compelling from a customer standpoint.
Very cool rig! I’m loving my redcat gen 8 v2, your videoed have been insanely helpful to help me get into this hobby. I’d love for you to make a vid about your real truck and maybe some past vehicles you’ve had. I have a 1994 Toyota pickup 4x4 and absolutely love it!
Thanks David, really glad you're getting something out of these :) I discuss the 4WDs on our property a bit in this video (th-cam.com/video/3ZOZg6dDNFE/w-d-xo.html ) and also in the second video I ever made, which was about my car charging setup (th-cam.com/video/ppyrEavIV9s/w-d-xo.html ). Cheers!
Aw thanks :) That's the WPL C24 you're talking about, right? Night and day difference, that motor upgrade was! Upgrades, hmm. Not yet, but if I want to crawl more seriously with it I'll investigate getting some brass on those front portal outers. Maybe better tires and heavier wheels - maybe - but doing that means a servo upgrade and voltage rejig as well, since the WP-1060 only outputs 5V/2A. I really like it as it is so for now, a little front brass would be the only change for capability I'd half consider. A light bar up top would look cool too, but for now, I'm just gonna drive this thing and get to know it some more. It's a bunch of fun!
I tried to find anywhere that described exactly which type of powder metal process was used to make the gears in this drivetrain, and I just couldn't find anything. Is that because it's proprietary industrial secrets for how good they are, or because they don't want us to know how cheaply made they are? Lots of questions, no answers. It would be interesting to find out more about these gears and how they were made. The way it's worded does make it sound like a positive feature, which implies they're made with one of the better methods, but at this price point, we can't just accept that assumption. There are a number of modern powdered metal processes that are actually superior to other forms of manufacturing and are preferred in high-stress high-performance and/or mission critical applications (HIP comes to mind here), so without knowing which method was used, it's hard to gauge whether or not these are any good. I put a sintered steel gearset in the starter for my 1/10 AWD nitro buggy over a decade ago and have never had any issues with it. no chips, scratches, or breakages, and I've been particularly harsh to it. If these gears are made like that one, no problem. It wasn't cheap back then, and wasn't easy to find either, but it was worth every penny. If these are just a cheap cast powder process (I really hope that's not the case!), then yeah, your observations are spot on, and possibly somewhat optimistic, about their durability.
Good points-thank you for the info. I'll take one of the axles apart soon and post photos on my Q&A page and will reference your comment here. I'll reply again when that's done. I'll get some clear, up-close photos and we'll see what we can determine from there!
I've pulled it apart and had a closer look. I think these are nicer than from a cheap cast powder process - at least, comparing them to other known such units from other rigs. More detail with some photos here: rc-tnt.com/how-to/q-and-a/rgt-rescuer-gears/ Thanks again for bringing this up. It's definitely worth looking into. I'll shoot RGT an email and see if we can get more info (just done now, I'll let you know if/when I hear back). Thanks!
@@RCTNT looking at the pictures you posted, those gears look remarkably good. In fact, they look an awful lot like the sintered gears in my starter. I think your assessment is right on the money. These do not look like cheap cast powder gears. Has RGT found an inexpensive way to produce good quality powder metal gears? It seems so from this example. This makes me happy!
Hey mate, I saw on a vid of yours that you said you will be doing a vid on the ex86190 with all the upgrades. Do you know when this will be released? Cheers
Not for a while yet sorry. Comp season has me mostly doing that, with the odd review or update video thrown in. It is definitely coming but April/May is most likely for that one, at this point. Sorry to keep you waiting!!
Man that's a good looking rig! This shows a ton of potential right out of the box and I also wonder if they offer some gear upgrades for strength. Maybe they're stronger than it seems since they're shipping with a pretty stout 550 motor? The lighting kit looks awesome and reminds me of the Traxxas 2021 Bronco lighting kit I put on mine in terms of completeness. I think that radio might be a DumboRC... or at least the aesthetics sure look like their 6 channel. Looking forward to part 2! 🙌
Heh, agreed on all counts. I mention the radio is a DumboRC X6 clone in my article on this truck. Well spotted. The 20-turn 550 Rescuer motor packs less punch than the Traxxas 17-turn Titan, but that's fine - it and the gearing are perfect for the vehicle. I reckon it'll be durable. I'll report back after a good few hours of use. Cheers Andy, catch you in the next one!
I finally got myself one.!!! I'm absolutely delighted with it... Especially since I only paid £299 (£8:99 p&p) for it, they're currently on Banggood for £398 & the FTX Tracker version sells for around the same. Mine's the V2 version that has the interior fitted... The only problem is the gear shift servo was lazy, it hesitated when activated.. I'll let it off though, I've got spares & have already swapped it out. It arrived yesterday right in the middle of the worst snow storm we've had in the Scottish Highlands for years... To maiden it in 12 inches of snow or not.?? Hmmmmmm.??.. Yeah.!!... it got wet.!! 👍 👍 👍 😂 😂 😂 I got some epic slo-mo shots too.! I'm currently trying out different wheel & tyre combos.. I'm not a fan of the oversized ones it came with, besides.. No trail rig of mine is going to roll on plastic rims.!😉 I've just fitted a 20 tooth pinion to hopefully suit the 108mm tyres.. It's also quite a bit larger than I expected, it's almost as large as my 1/8 Absima (Yikong) Bronco.!! Yes indeed it's very impressive... Right... I'm off out with it again.! 😉 😉 😂 😂 Stay safe out there & best wishes from Scotland 🏴 🙏 ❤️ 📻 🕹️ 🔋 🚗 🚖 🚕 🚔 🚚 🚙 🚘 🚓 🚒 🚑 🚐 🚎 🚤 🚁 🛩️

@@RCTNT as soon as I get home I'll get right on. Amazing, thank you so much. I also would love to know how to solve an issue with the front arm holder. I am unable to send picture on the comments, do you by any chance have an email I could send you the query?
I really like the truck and I really like your videos but actually if you look about almost 13 years ago the venom creeper offered a locking differential kit with their truck and the availability for front dig it's a shame that that crawler didn't take off it was before it's time I still have one and it's going strong one of my favorite rigs. I know it didn't come with it but it was an option so definitely one of the first locking differential trucks I know of far before anything Traxxas ever comprehended.
@@RCTNT yes it is Sir I've used mine in a rear wheel drive front wheel drive front dig situation for some years unfortunately all my TH-cam content was destroyed the only thing left if you want to look at it is on my buddies channel called onestroked388 referring to an engine size of a 350 small block Chevy punched out to a 388 stroker, I assume you might know that but you may not. anyways smiles and cheers happy holidays thank you for the reply back and I continue to enjoy your RC videos I just subscribed.
Hi well explained video. How is this holding up? I am thinking of getting one asmy first rc toy. Did you have to pay any gst etc in australia when it landed here?
It's great! The only thing I needed to address ^was the end point for the 2-speed servo. It was off a tad, but otherwise, no complaints. Still a super fun machine that's easy to recommend. GST is now paid at point of purchase, even from international sellers. Any place that sells it to Australians is subject to this mandate, so what you pay is all you pay, in theory. Atees definitely has this under control.
It is great looking little truck especially in black, though the lighter colours looks a bit toy-ish. The faux engine and realistic gearbox look great but does the motor being high up make any noticeable difference to the centre of gravity? The light controller looks like a DumboRC receiver. and if you weren't aware, it is a DumboRC transmitter, which are a brilliant radio for the price. They have fantastic range, claimed 500 metres, which is not far off when I tested. You can also get with them proportional channels 5 and 6, great for winches and rear steering. There are a number of receivers available, some with a giro built in, some with light controls though they do take a little bit of working out on how to operate, eg you have to steer three times in succession to turn on the hazard lights, and I think it is four times for emergency lights if fitted, beware there is a delay. Can't wait to see it try your problems.
Hey hey, thanks for the detailed comment! Agreed on the colours, though white still looks ok. That 'desert yellow' though, yeah, dunno how well that'll sell. Still, the scale details help make up for it a bit! In my article (on rc-tnt.com) I mention it's a DumboRC X6 transmitter and yep, we have a few of them (the Zetros 6x6 came with the proportional Ch.5 & 6: th-cam.com/video/D6HTwVbXJD0/w-d-xo.html). Regarding lights, the RGT control schemes vary a bit across models but I love that they're putting in the effort for decent light systems. They're getting better and better - I really like the set on the Rescuer here! Next video drops soon, on March 10 at 11am AEST. Cheers :)
@@RCTNT I might be tempted with the desert yellow myself, but I agree, without any panel lines, the body falls a bit flat, and the black hides it pretty neatly.
Nah, I don't. If I'm rebuilding one, or after heavy water running (and obviously when building a kit), then yes: grease onto all gears except the spur & pinion. But for a crawler you'd probably get away without any grease for a good long time. They're not high-speed parts, generally, so heat isn't so big an enemy (from friction) as it would be in faster vehicles. But in short, diffs, gearbox and transfer case like grease, yes.
Any chance you compare it to yikong 4102pro ( absima sherpa ). It has f&r locking diff and 2 speed. Would be a good comparisson i guess. Love your vids. Thanks 👍
Excellent, that's when things started happening under the lid eh. Thank you for watching and letting me know you're enjoying it! I hope you get something out of part 2 when it drops in 4 hours as well :) Cheers
Could You explain how come there isn't really that high pitched whine coming from the motor? I thought only pwm programmable escs are capable of getting rid of that. Or is it actually there, but not really picked up in the video?
The whine will be there when crawling, don't worry! You hear it most when there's resistance and the motor can't spin much or at all while you feed it power. The WP-1060 runs 1K PWM, which is easier on the electronics but yes, noisier!
I believe so, yes. Great cars. Not perfect, but none are. Run it on a nimh battery or a 5000mah 2S lipo (get a balance charger for that lipo and run the Storage charge on it after use) and you'll have many hours of enjoyment from it. Also, my article on this question is a little old now, but still still steer you in the right direction: rc-tnt.com/manufacturer/multiple/what-is-the-best-rc-rock-crawler/ I might write a refresher article for this in next next couple of months. Bottom line though, you've got a solid start with this RGT vehicle, yes.
So the rgt 86170 challenger vs the rgt 86190 rescuer which do you prefer? And I see they are almost a year old now, for roughly same price what is the best budget crawler? The axial basecamp? A kit? An rgt Crossrc emo Redcat gen9 Gmade kit 😵💫 There are so many options Not my first rc, but it would be my first crawler
The Rescuer is more capable than the Challenger. You may find this helpful: th-cam.com/video/psFjmvRa2Mc/w-d-xo.html Also the Emo AT4 is truly capable, you can get the same performance from the JT4, and they're a kit option as well - great options. Base Camp is a great performer. It's a bit older now but this article might be helpful too: rc-tnt.com/manufacturer/multiple/what-is-the-best-rc-rock-crawler/ Thankfully, models these days are really good - better than ever before! Any of the rigs you listed are capable and you'll get a great deal of enjoyment for them. The question of "crawlers: if you could only have one, which would it be?" is a tough one! I've thought about it a bunch. For adventure and trailing, it'd be a toss up between the Scx6 and the Emo AT4. For scale adventures, the BC8 is my favourite but the BRX01 gets the most use! For crawling oriented trailing, trx4 and trx6 are hard to beat, especially once upgraded. The TRX4 Sport kit build is great, too. Axial's entire range is capable and fun. Gmade diffs are a little weaker than the others but the GS02F is a pure performer. Element RC is making brilliant stuff. The new knightwalker looks like a brilliant option, for example. Spoiled for choice, we are!
@@RCTNTthank you so much for taking the time to respond! I’ve watched/read 2 years worth of rc-tnt videos and blog posts. I dont mind RTR or diy. I just don’t think I’ve seen someone say ‘hey this is how you make a $200~$400(or x amount) build’ but part of it is my lack of understanding. Do I need dig, do I need diff locks, do i need foc, do i need portals, do i need multiple speeds, etc Is the price difference just marketing, or a genuine difference in technology/quality. Thats why something so feature packed liked the rgt seems appealing especially for the price. But you stated it perfectly, there is no perfect rc. It is all preference. Would owning a cnc or 3d printer make the hobby even more accessible?
3d printing is effort and it can enhance your rc fun - if you're into it. I am, but I'd understand if someone wasn't. You don't need anything for a crawler except locked axles, decent enough tires, a sturdy frame, good steering and a scale body if you're that way inclined. It sounds like you're interested in a good general use 1/10 model. Here's a list of recommendations that you can keep pretty stock and thoroughly enjoy: Scx10 III (any variant, incl. Base Camp) Trx4 (any variant, but plan to upgrade steering servo) Element Enduro (any variant, but Ecto leads on crawling performance.) Cross rc emo AT4/JT4 RTR or kit (see my article for recommended parts for a kit build) RGT Rescuer (Challenger is good but heavy) Redcat Gen 9 Redcat Gen 8 (but see my upgrade videos, as motor and steering leave something to be desired) RC4WD TF2 (not 3) - more scale, less capable Boom racing BRX01/BRX02 - very scale, very strong drive line That'll cover it. You're going to have a great time with any of the above, truly.
One more note... the website also says it has "Double tube liquid negative pressure shock absorber"... in your experiences with this car, did you find any advantage/disadvantage/noticeable differences between these and other "normal" oil filled coilover shocks? The way it's described, it seems like it would be pretty good. But in practical application, is it? does it even make a difference that you can see or feel? I'm really curious.
No difference found in this case. It would probably help in high cycle applications such as on a fast, bumpy track in a fast truck, such as a SCT of some kind. On a crawler, no. The standard configuration just needs to be adjustable, plush and consistent, which standard reservoir and coil over designs definitely already are.
I am not gonna lie I am glad you waited to peel the plastic off.. LMAO Receiver not waterproofed?? Hmm They are not a bad looking rig actually. I think I would buy one. THanks for sharing
For sure. The body especially, go for it - though be aware that you don't want to be forcing water into/around the light fittings or the light controller. Also, the receiver isn't waterproof from out of the box, so if you haven't waterproofed it, be cautious with adding water. I use the hose on my cars, but I don't blast axles or moving assemblies. I do blast tire treads and rinse (not blast) the rest of it. I also dry them and then apply light machine oil to all metal moving parts once the thing is dry (the unis and CVDs on the axles, drive shafts and link ball-ends). I don't bother oiling the motor, it'll work until it dies eventually, then it'll be replaced. Lastly, if you haven't waterproofed your wheels, be aware that water gets into the tires and ruins the foams over time. Open the wheels up and remove the tires and foams so they can dry. If you don't want vented wheels anymore, electrical tape over the vent hole/s in the wheels will help keep them sealed, so next time you have a wet run, you won't need to worry about this at all. Cheers!
@@RCTNT thank you for that! I appreciate it heaps. I am from across the pond and love the NZ trails for my Rescuer. One last thing, is it safe to get the whole chassis wet? assuming I waterproofed the Rx, will it not effect the other electrical stuff?
@@kawhimenard1424 yep! See my 'MUD' video featuring this car. Full submersion is not really recommended nor intended in the designs of these things, and water and especially mud/silt ingress to the gearbox and diffs aren't good for em... but they'll take it. Being that these aren't high speed models, they tend to tolerate such abuse for much longer than their faster cousins in the RC world. But still, long running is the reward for time spent on maintenance. Water is fun. Have at it. Just give it a little TLC on the other side :)
Heh, kinda, yeah! I look at it as a tribute to the TRX4 Defender. It's quite good, especially for the money - and extra especially when you factor in the servo and light kit that you get with the RGT. It's pretty nice, this model :)
This looks amazing. It would be great to hear how you think this would compare to the Yikong crawlers/trail trucks (also rebranded as Amewi and Absima) which have the dif lock and 2 speed functions. They are similar in price to the RGT rescuer.
I looked at the Absima Sherpa online yesterday in reply to another comment on the part 2 video. It is similar, though I love Absima's hinged body and clever little steering assembly! I don't see these brands easily accessible in Australia so I'm not sure I'll be able to get my hands on one, but I'll have a poke around and see what I can find. Honestly they're all pretty good these days. The quality and design is good enough that even in a cheaper model, you get reasonable durability and capability out of the box. We're spoilt for choice!
@@RCTNT thanks for getting back to me mate. I'm also in Australia so I was concerned about replacement parts for some of these brands but there's probably some alternatives from other brands that can be used. I'm loving the look of this new RGT though. Thank you for making such a detailed video.
@@Bonald1 no worries at all :) I'm not sure what will break on this. The main things that might go are fairly universal - servos and motor. Gears are pretty solid and the days of blowing diffs regularly are fading for these more premium rigs. Everything is pretty incredibly durable, honestly. Worst case, if you blow an axle somehow irreparably, TRX4 axles will fit with a little fiddling. Can't comment on gearing but it'd be close. Run it on 2s though and it will hopefully not be a problem!
@@RCTNT thanks so much for that info. I've registered my email with Atees for when these become available again. Love the iconic Landcruiser body, and the diff lock functions look like they would be sweet to play around with.
@@Bonald1 excellent! I'm sure you'll love it. Do me a favour and use the affiliate link from the video description - won't cost you any more and it'll help support my habit, er, I mean, my channel. Thank you! (I'm just home from a break and I took the Rescuer with me for fun driving, along with a few others for filming. But the Rescuer came just for fun - it's such a great trail rig!)
Hmm, that's a good question. The diff lock mechanism is nearly identical between the two but I reckon the Traxxas two-speed mechanism is superior. The tires are definitely better on the Traxxas - but those Canyon Trail tires are some of the best crawler tires I've tested, period, so that's a pretty high bar for RGT. I've just installed the Pro Light Kit in the Bronco (see one of my recent Bronco videos, I'm doing an eye-wateringly expensive build series with it currently) and whilst that's better than the RGT version, the Rescuer includes the light kit with the car - instantly better value there. Motors and plastics are similar in quality throughout. As a Toyota man I am partial to the Rescuer from the body perspective, but that 2021 Bronco body is gorgeous, no doubt. The RGT servos are better and the ESC is definitely better in the RGT - my opinion here, based on the models I own and have run over the years (and remember, I have more than a few crawlers from most brands at this point). RGT gets a lot right on this machine. I like the radio better too, actually. There's greater after-market support for the Traxxas range - though the axles are quite similar and I suspect (must get around to testing this) that many axle weight products for the TRX4 will probably fit the Rescuer. Let's bottom-line it: - if you're on a tight budget and want one of these two models and don't want to have to upgrade light kit and steering servo, get the RGT. Bonus points if you prefer the body. - if you are prepared to save more to buy the Traxxas and are prepared to replace the servo when it fails (if you crawl with it beyond light and occasional rocks), get the TRX4. The tires are better, too - so good that I wouldn't recommend upgrading them until you wear them out. See my tire test series for the data supporting this claim. Bonus points if you prefer the Bronco body. A few thoughts for you :) Happy decision making, my friend!
I saw one these the other day, their awesome!,,but rgt is ftx in pom land, lol,so am wondering if ftx will bring out over here🤔,am harping on again about me reely, would reely 🙄🙄😅 love to see review one🙏🙏🙏🤔😷👍
FTX is harder to get here for reasonable pricing but I'll consider it. Is there any FTX model in particular you think would be most useful or interesting for me to look at?
Absolutely it can, yes. But I recommend 2S for it. The gearing and the electronics will thank you - and 2nd speed is way fast in 2S for a crawler AND you'll get 50% more runtime over a 3S with same rated capacity due to physics. I use 3S on most of my RC vehicles, but this one is best on 2S, IMO. You'll be happy either way tho, I'm sure :)
@RCTNT I was just thinking I'm was going to put a isdt 70 esc into anyway I though that would be alright but if it only likes 2s I'll only do 2s do you happen to know how long the battery tray is?
It's fine on 3s, to be clear. I'm just saying it drives a lot better on 2s. Just my opinion. I honestly don't think you'll have to spend the money on the isdt70. The stock esc is quite good for this car. We know the WP-1060 isn't tunable for drag brake etc, but its default profile is just about perfect for the Rescuer. Try it and see, you can always change it out anyway, but give it a go first. You may find you're happy with it like I am!
Hi Craig - I have received my RGT ex86190 today.. I have inserted a battery and this unit is moving forward on the throttle but not backwards.. Could you please share your thoughts on how to resolve this? also even with little or full throttle the acceleration is high always..
Your radio needs both its dual rate and two trim centred for the Throttle channel. You also may need to calibrate the ESC, but I think this is less likely. It sounds like the radio isn't trimmed correctly.
I just reviewed the manual for the WP-1060 and found there's no throttle calibration. It's all up to the radio. Lift the lid on the transmitter and check the dials. TH D/R should be at maximum and TH TRIM should be at zero.
EX86190 - we've run them both over the 6 problems here and from memory the Rescuer did better. The Challenger is very heavy, which hampers its performance. I've got an upgrade video for the EX86170 already on the channel here and there's one coming soon for the Rescuer. But even in stock form, the Rescuer is great. Very fun car as well as capable.
I just used one of my regular balance chargers with it and made an xt60 to deans adapter to fit the battery they supplied. Honestly, any balance charger would be fine. If you don't have one yet, something like this is pretty nice: ToolkitRC M6D 500W 15A High Power DC Dual banggood.onelink.me/zMT7/j0h8ifqk But any would do as long as its a balance charger. Cheers
I'd be happy to help but you'll need to remind me, sorry. Which rgt are we talking about? Did I state I bought axles for one of them? (I'm not kidding, I buy something, then while it's shipping I often go searching for that thing and put it in my cart. Sometimes I'll buy it twice because I completely forget I already ordered it! Remind me a bit more what you're after and I'll find it and send you the link, no worries)
Oh I see! Nope, stock axles are actually very good! Just the brass (don't go overboard, too much and it works against you - what I added is about right, imo). Happy tinkering!
@@RCTNT same I added a bit of wheel weights & brass outter portals with some green Injora silicones and it responds well may do the same with the lc76 to get it just right
I had loved this body when I saw it on the preview photos, although when I saw the portals it completely killed my buzz, as I'm a bit of a hardcore scale guy. I am sorry to say I will miss enjoying what it seems like a great package, overall! I think the Toyota logos in those pics where indication of them trying to license it, but at some point they must have decided otherwise (probably because of the price jump due to royalties). Yes the receiver and light box could be waterproofed, but overall looks like a solid trail Swiss knife! I was wondering, how stiff is the chassis. I gather the only part that isn't plastic would be the rails, but how well the structural design of the plastic parts is, would either make it a wet noodle, or a rock-hard chassis. I'm betting a bit more towards the noodle kind. I look forward to what part 2 brings and prove me wrong that, for what it is, it can really handle a bit of rock crawling!
I can ignore the portals for a fun machine like this. Not if it was a scaler, but for a general purpose rig, yeah, don't care. Personal preference of course. Chassis is moderately rigid but there's some flex. Not a big deal for a car like this, honestly. Compare it to the Phoenix or whatever and chassis flexibility isn't what makes the difference, put it that way. Stiffer is better, but it's a minor thing overall.
You wouldn't notice the difference on this rig in stock form, I'm betting. While I like the 1080 and have 6 or 7 of them in various rigs, the 1060 makes sense in this machine. We're pretty spoilt for quality and value these days either way, eh!
Which parts in particular? The main stuff people break is servos and motors, which are universal. Don't have to buy the same to fix that. But I've also just bought a bunch of parts for it for a future video and they were readily available. I'd expect you're generally going to be fine here.
@@RCTNT thanks did u say the gears may not be able to take 3s Lipo. As it some weaker alloy I wonder how does that compare with a trx4 that I own gears wise
Firstly, I was wrong about the gears. The "powder coating" is a newer kind of manufacturing process and they're apparently very good. This car will handle 3S and brushless. I'm going to upgrade mine soon with all available RGT upgrades and we'll stick a bigger power system in it as well. I expect the gears will be comparable to what's in the TRX4, but we shall see how it goes with more power. Another great car that does all this and is a kit build is the Cross RC EMO AT4, for which I have a video review here: th-cam.com/video/moDtgCcDJtc/w-d-xo.html
I like every thing except the body clips location, Im not a fan of them on my scx6 either. Too bad it wasnt like the new traxxas bronco clips that would have been better, in my opinion that is.
This body attaches a little differently to the SCX10.3 but I find both systems frustrating to use. Same with Scx6, yeah. First world problem though, they certainly look better for it!
@@RCTNT I do like the clip less body just takes forever to get body lined up and on. About a minute into it and I just say screw it and i grab my trx4 sport instead. I just want to go rcing not sit there and worry about what the camera sees sometimes. Im more impressed what the vehicle can do first and then worry about what it looks like later.
@@RCTNT I know aye I'm thinking of taking the fenders off just to let it slide on better, I think that would help it out alot better. I'm also thinking about making my own metal upgrades.
You should take a look at the Absima sherpa 3,4 is have all the same features as the TRX4 and even has light on. It's also the same truck as the Amewi rtx pro. I have 2 of this platform now and in my opinion I think there just as good as the TRX4 for my taste I think I like the Sherpa more, it drives better. You can take a look on my channel to se it. I'm actually looking for an new platform whit the same features. So the RGT came up. But. For an RGT I think is a big too expensive. It's almost the same price as an TRX in my country with taxes and customs and import.
Thanks Daniel, you're actually not the first to suggest the Sherpa. Far as I can tell, it's using a lot of the same running gear as the Rescuer here. I can't easily get Absima rigs here in Australia but I expect you and I will both have had similar experiences with these two vehicles. They're very good!
@@RCTNT there is one thing I noticed the funktion whit the button's. On the Amewi and Sherpa they are doing it the other way around. Ligths off is open diffs and they ligt on when you locking them. Makes more sense in my opinion. And the same with the 1 and 2 gear. Off is 1. On is 2nd. I still considering this RGT. But I as said think it's to expensive. And can't get it anyway not in stock. From what I can se i think the build quality looks better on the sharpa than the RGT.
@@DansRcAdventures fair enough. Channels and end points can be easily reversed for opposite light operation, that's a three minute fix. Build and material quality, not so much! Glad you're enjoying the Sherpa!
The UK FTX version is no cheaper than a TRX4 now! £499rrp! disenfranchised their customer base in the UK with this one when the RGT Rescuer was £275 via Aliexperss & Asiatee's only 6 months ago.
Wow, interesting. Sorry to hear that. I would note however that inflation is crazy, supply issues are plaguing logistics and manufacturing processes globally and the TRX4 plus a Pro lighting kit is still stupidly expensive. I'm doing a 2021 Bronco with light kit video series and man, was it expensive! But I'm sorry this has gone up, that's a shame, the above notwithstanding.
@@RCTNT Its a real shame on this one, we were tipped off to wait for the FTX version in the UK so we did. Pretty much convinced these will go down the same road as the Absima Sherpa & Yucatan now, same senario, rebranded, the price near on doubled and now they are not selling. Awesome video tho and content, Thank you for your time and feedback 👍
@@TheSweeney oh I see. Tomley does ftx but I haven't tracked down his videos on the equivalent one to the Rescuer yet, if he's done it. I'm sorry to hear that about the pricing. I've been watching the Sherpa and Yuktan with a view to buying and comparing but they've been too expensive. I'd been waiting to see if they'd come down in price before buying, but hearing this has gone up makes me wonder if they will come down at all. Guess there's no harm in waiting to see. Bummer!
@@TheSweeney thanks, I've had my eye on them for a while, waiting to see if the price would drop. On AliExpress at least, the Rescuer is the cheapest by 15 or 20%. Cheers
Nice, thanks. I could be mistaken, but I've always thought that 70 series meant any 7X variant. Just like the 105 is a 100 series, for example. So when I said "70 series" I meant any 70 variant, including the 76 here. That all said, I've never actually had a 70 series before but grew up in a 60, then had an 80 and now have a 100. Toyota power! :D Edit. I just went and checked, as you had me wondering if I've been using incorrect terminology all these years! But nope, it looks like 70 series means all the 70-somethings, etc. Cheers!
I don't think so, no. I waterproofed mine with a bag but next time I have the car on the workbench I think I'll apply conformal coating to the board - and then I'll check if that's been done already. Conformal coating is a clear substance that you paint on and it sets kinda like varnish, keeping the painted components protected from water ingress. It's how I usually do it these days.
Looking forward to part 2. Love your vids, thanks much!
Excellent! I'll catch you then :D
Thank you, cool review! Appreciate your thorough look, the details do matter. Like the truck style-wise, looks smart going down the trail. Liked and enjoyed, also in 2023👍
My pleasure! And thanks for such a thoughtful comment, I appreciate it :)
Spot on.
Thank you for your kind words :)
I share your views on this and my expectation before the rock test was similar.
Oh awesome! Welcome, and great choice :) Enjoy, the Pioneer is a little ripper!
That's helpful feedback, thank you! Glad you enjoyed it :)
Finally, a video in English. Thank you so much!

One more question what would you prefer and why. RGT EX86190 or CrossRc Emo AT4 RTR or TRX4 High Trail if money is not the only point...?
That's a tough one. I love all three. The EMO AT4 is probably my favourite and also probably the most capable out of the box. That's a hard one. Go with personal preference I guess.
What a beautiful trail rig, with the red/orange/yellow stripes it looks a bit like a Izuzu Trooper from the side. Seems like it has tons of potential and it comes with a lot of nice details and functions.
Yeah! It's pretty nice :)

The HB R1001 bronco is also a knock-off from the TRX4 and does very well.
I keeps up with the trx4 for 1/3 of the price!

@@RCTNT Awesome, thank you!
Any plans for upgrades and such?
The videos you have done with the blue ute have been awesome.
About to pull the trigger on this one, never had an RGT, keen how it goes with the 6 probs.
3 days from now and all will be revealed! It's a fun machine, you're going to love it :)
More detail with some photos here: rc-tnt.com/how-to/q-and-a/rgt-rescuer-gears/
Thanks again for bringing this up.
Just subscribed not long ago. Really like the content great job.

@@RCTNT no worries thanks mate. look forward to seeing it cheers

I really like the truck and I really like your videos but actually if you look about almost 13 years ago the venom creeper offered a locking differential kit with their truck and the availability for front dig it's a shame that that crawler didn't take off it was before it's time I still have one and it's going strong one of my favorite rigs.
@@YoShImUrA53 for a Lexan body, they've done it well.
Hi Craig, do you grease your transmission out of the box. Or which part to put grease?
Nah, I don't. If I'm rebuilding one, or after heavy water running (and obviously when building a kit), then yes: grease onto all gears except the spur & pinion. But for a crawler you'd probably get away without any grease for a good long time. They're not high-speed parts, generally, so heat isn't so big an enemy (from friction) as it would be in faster vehicles. But in short, diffs, gearbox and transfer case like grease, yes.
Its a good looking rig. Thanks for the vid.
Thanks for watching, Warby :)

Do I need dig, do I need diff locks, do i need foc, do i need portals, do i need multiple speeds, etc
Is the price difference just marketing, or a genuine difference in technology/quality.
Here's a list of recommendations that you can keep pretty stock and thoroughly enjoy:
Scx10 III (any variant, incl. Base Camp)
Trx4 (any variant, but plan to upgrade steering servo)
Element Enduro (any variant, but Ecto leads on crawling performance.)
Cross rc emo AT4/JT4 RTR or kit (see my article for recommended parts for a kit build)
RGT Rescuer (Challenger is good but heavy)
Redcat Gen 9
Redcat Gen 8 (but see my upgrade videos, as motor and steering leave something to be desired)
RC4WD TF2 (not 3) - more scale, less capable
Boom racing BRX01/BRX02 - very scale, very strong drive line
That'll cover it.
Lol awesome
Yeah the rx is a minor oversight and easily addressed. They've done a pretty impressive job, overall.
just got this Rescuer recently, how do you clean it after a muddy run? is it safe to shower with a garden hose?
Have at it. Just give it a little TLC on the other side :)
it’s like a Axial Scx10III had a baby with the Traxxas Trx4 Defender.
Heh, kinda, yeah! I look at it as a tribute to the TRX4 Defender. It's quite good, especially for the money - and extra especially when you factor in the servo and light kit that you get with the RGT. It's pretty nice, this model :)
@@RCTNT it really is a nice truck, a good looking one also.
Rgt did a great job 👍😊
Yes! They nailed it with this one!
@@Bonald1 no worries at all :)
I'm not sure what will break on this.
There’s a $200 AUD price difference between this and the trx4 2021 bronco. Do you reckon the trx4 is worth the extra dosh?
Let's bottom-line it:
- if you're on a tight budget and want one of these two models and don't want to have to upgrade light kit and steering servo, get the RGT.
Cheers :) As a fellow Aussie I prefer the landcruiser body on the RGT and even on the Yikong yk4101 pro but will go the trx4. Thanks again
I have full confidence you'll be happy with either. Happy to help!

@@bernardrc1137 interesting
It looks like an original SCX10 with portals and a 550 motor. Bet it goes alright!
540 high torque motor 40amp hobbywing crawler esc 😁👍
Hey can this also do 3s im thinking of buying and wanted to know ,thanks
Thks for sharing
Thks for watching :)
How to reset it?
I just reviewed the manual for the WP-1060 and found there's no throttle calibration. It's all up to the radio. Lift the lid on the transmitter and check the dials. TH D/R should be at maximum and TH TRIM should be at zero.
I performed all these but no use.. I have a noble nb4 pro radio.. Let me connect that one
Basically with little throttle the vehicle should move slowly right but this unit is moving as if the throttle is given 100%
which is the best in terms of performance? Rgt ex86170 or Rgt ex86190?
EX86190 - we've run them both over the 6 problems here and from memory the Rescuer did better. The Challenger is very heavy, which hampers its performance.
I've got an upgrade video for the EX86170 already on the channel here and there's one coming soon for the Rescuer. But even in stock form, the Rescuer is great. Very fun car as well as capable.
11:20 lock the rear = ULTIMATE DRIFTING MACHINE! ;-p
lol yep
What kind of charger did you buy for it?
I just used one of my regular balance chargers with it and made an xt60 to deans adapter to fit the battery they supplied. Honestly, any balance charger would be fine. If you don't have one yet, something like this is pretty nice:
ToolkitRC M6D 500W 15A High Power DC Dual banggood.onelink.me/zMT7/j0h8ifqk
But any would do as long as its a balance charger. Cheers
@@RCTNT thank you very much
No worries!
Any chance you can send me a link where you got the axels for the RGT lc76 I can’t find them on Ali
@@RCTNT I’m sorry I thought you put on after markets on the lc76
@@RCTNT I will be ordering the brass thanks for the link
@@RCTNT fair enough on both accounts!
Bummer on the 1060 when the 1080 is so much better.
You wouldn't notice the difference on this rig in stock form, I'm betting. While I like the 1080 and have 6 or 7 of them in various rigs, the 1060 makes sense in this machine. We're pretty spoilt for quality and value these days either way, eh!
How about availability of parts
Which parts in particular? The main stuff people break is servos and motors, which are universal. Don't have to buy the same to fix that. But I've also just bought a bunch of parts for it for a future video and they were readily available. I'd expect you're generally going to be fine here.
@@RCTNT thanks did u say the gears may not be able to take 3s Lipo. As it some weaker alloy I wonder how does that compare with a trx4 that I own gears wise
@@RCTNT what was the other model crawler u mentioned with remote diff locks and 2 speeds?
Firstly, I was wrong about the gears. The "powder coating" is a newer kind of manufacturing process and they're apparently very good. This car will handle 3S and brushless. I'm going to upgrade mine soon with all available RGT upgrades and we'll stick a bigger power system in it as well.
I expect the gears will be comparable to what's in the TRX4, but we shall see how it goes with more power.
Another great car that does all this and is a kit build is the Cross RC EMO AT4, for which I have a video review here:
th-cam.com/video/moDtgCcDJtc/w-d-xo.html
@@WoodsUnknown I share your frustration, often! Drives me a little nuts some days!
@@RCTNT I know aye I'm thinking of taking the fenders off just to let it slide on better, I think that would help it out alot better. I'm also thinking about making my own metal upgrades.
@@WoodsUnknown nice. The hobby is great in this regard. Happy modding!
Yes
That is not a 70s it is a 76s
Nice, thanks. I could be mistaken, but I've always thought that 70 series meant any 7X variant. Just like the 105 is a 100 series, for example. So when I said "70 series" I meant any 70 variant, including the 76 here.
That all said, I've never actually had a 70 series before but grew up in a 60, then had an 80 and now have a 100. Toyota power! :D
Edit. I just went and checked, as you had me wondering if I've been using incorrect terminology all these years! But nope, it looks like 70 series means all the 70-somethings, etc. Cheers!
Is the receiver waterproof?
I don't think so, no. I waterproofed mine with a bag but next time I have the car on the workbench I think I'll apply conformal coating to the board - and then I'll check if that's been done already. Conformal coating is a clear substance that you paint on and it sets kinda like varnish, keeping the painted components protected from water ingress. It's how I usually do it these days.
