I love Sedgehogs! Have to be one of the most versatile patterns I tie. Sometimes instead of the wrapped green eggcase, I us either a dyed green Amhurst crest feather as a tail or a use a slim plastic bead. Very very good pattern and of course you do an excellent job presenting it on video!!
Thanks for sharing your Knowledge Kerry, I am glad you like this one, I will try your way also, always like new Ideas Stay safe my friend Regards Mak 🙂🙂
I enjoyed your video Mak! I was fishing these (all black, no hotspot and rubber legs) for bass late the other evening. Dead drifted, twitched or skated - couldn't see them well on the water but the fish were taking the Sedgehog aggressively enough that they were hooking themselves when the line went tight. Cheers! Hank
Thank you Hank, I am glad you like it, I agree these are really great fish catchers , I am looking forward to use these when the weather cool down a bit Regards,, Mak :)
I Love watching all of your fly tying videos Mak, and Thankyou for answering all of my questions. I didn’t know how to get in touch with you any other so that’s okay if everyone else can read this too. I’m having problems with a Regal Vise I purchased recently. It bends the hooks I put in to it. Tiemco 103BL Dry Fly Hook for example. Some of my other hooks I tie with are okay like a Daichi 1550. All are size 10. I know it’s because of the way it’s made because I see there’s a cut out for the hook inside of the jaws on one side. The other side is flat. That’s probably the reason why. If I put the hook straight in, it’s gonna bend. So I have to raise the jaws of the vise to approximately 45 degrees and that seems to help. If I’m using a light wire hook especially, I have to be careful how I put the hook into the vise. Hooks are expensive! Regal should have corrected this problem. Shame on them, other than that though the materials and workmanship is okay. So I’m writing to you because I wanted to know what kind of a vise you’re using in this video. Is that a Dyna King? Thankyou my Brother, & Aloha!🌴🏄🏻🎣
Hi Kent, thank you , as for the Regal vice I don't know much about it, if there is cut in the Jaw I don't put hook in the cut, it's mainly for the Larger Flies, I put the Hooks in near the Tip, Anyway I use Anvil Atlas & JVise, for Uploading my Videos I am using Jvise from South Africa, you can Google Jvise to get all the info :))
Makflies, Thankyou Mak for getting back to me. You Da Best Bruddah! It’s da way we speak over here. LOL! I had a hunch that cut out on the inside of the vise was for larger flies or hooks made from a heavier gauge wire. And to resolve this problem you’re right about putting the hook in away from the notch where it’s flat, or sticking it all the way in works to and that way I don’t get poked by the hook. Angling the vise to about a 45 degree angle seems to resolve this problem too, and so now I don’t feel so badly about purchasing a Regal. Cost like 275$ Also Thanks for letting me know about the fly tying vises you use, I appreciate that. I’ll have a look at them on the Internet. Mak I Love watching many of your Fly Tying Videos, I just Love the way you tie, you are very Articulate, and you’re Craftsmanship and work of Art is Beautiful! 🤙🏼 You Take Care my Friend, & and until da next time. 🎣🐟🐟🐟🐟 Aloha!
Hi Mak, Nice job. My only concern is the pheasant tail legs. They seem terribly fragile. One good fish and they are done...Can you suggest a more durable material to substitute, perhaps rubber legs?
Thank you Brian,, I agree , I CAN'T think anything apart from Flexi Rubber Legs lol,, I also use Rubber Legs , which are Brilliant ,, Thank you for watching , I am on holiday till 9th of October , I shall be uploading more video when I come back Regards Mak
Nice looking Sedgehog Mak! Black is definitely one of my favorite colors too, but how did you tie the knots for the pheasant tail legs? I tried but its super hard. Can you tell me how it's done. What tools do you use? Did you make a jig or do you have something to wrap it around, so you can pull one of the ends through to form the knot, or something like that? 🌴🎣🐟 Aloha! Oh and by the way, what's the wax on the thread for? Is it to make the dubbing stick to the thread, or does it act something like glue because it's sticky and it helps the thread to stay together, or is it for floatation? Mahalo, Thankyou!
Thank you Kent, I tie the Knot just simply with my hand, but you can buy the tool also, there are few Videos you can watch, shows you how to tie the PT Legs, As for the WAX I am only using Basic one ( Veniard Prepared Wax ), Regards,,,,,,,,,Mak
Damn Mak! Always amazed with you flies!
Thank you Victor :)
