  • I’ll take you on a totally awesome and scary hike in Kanchanaburi Thailand.
    Khao Chang Phueak is famous amongst Thais as one of Thailand’s greatest adventures but virtually unknown by International tourists. This is a properly organised hike arranged by Thong Pha Phum National Park that takes you up a beautiful mountain ridge next to the Burmese border.
    A fantastic combination of natural beauty and adventure makes this one a true winner.

    • @karlsthailand
      @karlsthailand  ปีที่แล้ว

      You can hire National Park Rangers at some of the National Parks to take yourself or a small group hiking but it’s best to start early and ask at the HQ. The cost is usually 500-1000 Baht depending on the trail. If you go to Khao Yai I would recommend trail 5 as it’s long enough to be a challenge and has a variety of terrain

      I've been chased by a herd of elephants while I was in the back of a pickup and have seen wild tigers twice but that was a long time ago. Snakes don't bother me much and neither do monkeys apart from the fact that they are thieves. I tell the stories of my wild tiger encounters in this video here th-cam.com/video/9k1rqJNXtXs/w-d-xo.html

    Hi Karl, love your videos, I will be travelling to explore North Thailand, I have few queries on these treks.
    Do these treks need a guide or is it DIY?
    In case it's mandatory to Trek with a guide, will the officers in the national park help us?

    • @karlsthailand
      @karlsthailand  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      This particular trek has to be through Thong Pha Phum National Park. Actually they might only operate it in the Cool Season. They’re not expensive but you’ll probably need a Thai person to book it for you in advance. Takes a bit of planning but well worth it. You can hire porters who will carry up to 30kg up and down and put up/take down your tent for you for 1500 Baht per hike.

      You need to spend one night at or near Thong Pha Phum National Park HQ because you have to register your attendance for the hike a 6am and also spend a night at the campsite up on the ridge. Please be aware that this hike is only available at certain times of year. The best bet is to find their number on Google and get a Thai person to call on your behalf well before you wish to take the hike

      I don’t do specific training for individual hikes but do try to keep fit in general. I find cramps are sometimes a problem after a hike but drinking electrolytes can get rid of it pretty fast.
