lol Well, you get an expectation in your mind & it's disappointing when something falls short. Back in the late 80's my aunt had a Mercedes Hammer that was supposed to hit 185+. My cousin & I got it to a track & measured it at 171.72. That was still an amazing number for the 80's but we had our hearts set on 185 & it fell far short of that.
Thing is, Ed's telling a story that actually happened, which makes for a much more linear flow... as opposed to the tripe those hacks were trying to feed us from the script.
Tavarish You should ask ed if he would mentor you. I’d give anything to have a chance like that. Hell I’d be his personal assistant/security if he’d let me haha
Lol! I know someone that bought an 87 5.0 mustang that had been sitting in a barn on jackstands since 1993 and had it up to well over 100 mph on at newest 1993 tires!
It was a very special car but it didn't do it for me. Fortunately, I think the dealer I sold it to did pretty well with it. They drove it over 1k miles before selling it so they had some fun and he addressed the suspension and hp issues that I disclosed to him when he bought it. Can't wait to see where it turns up.
"And it's one of those times you look in the mirror and you go 'Ed, why are you like this?" totally me when I start looking at Mitsubishi Evos (Had 5 already). Seriously lol'd at my desk.
Ed Bolian have you ever thought about running a pickup truck in a race like the 2904? You could put a large enough in bed fuel tank to drive all the way across without fuel stops.
Hahaha holy shit on a bagel I never woulda thought that not only does he sell cars, but properties to. You gotta start a VIN wiki for homes now, we shall call it "homewiki" a channel for crazy home selling situations.i get royalties for the idea message me for my info.
I swear I saw this car more than a few times when you owned it. I used to work in Duluth, and live in JC, I'd swear I saw it on 141 in the JC/Duluth area, as well as going down 400 one day. I've got a pic somewhere. I'd guess it had to be you, because it still had the "RUF" plate at the time.
"I just never fell in love with it" ...i had a 96 viper a few years ago and people always say why did you sell that car and I never could put into words as to why I sold it, now I can. Thank you for that!
Ed "The Narrator" Bolian with another great story!! I remember RUF cars in Gran Turismo 2, so that took me back to my high school days. Glad that you made a hefty profit on that disaster of a car!
I once bought a old datsun from a police auction for $50 after fees I parked it at my house, a van backed into it. Her insurance came over (allstate) and said it would cost more to fix that it's worth, I said any running car is worth $500 and I could fix it for that. He cut me a $500 check on the spot. I sold the car 2 weeks later for $500 and financed $400 of it, repossessed it 6 months later, sold it for $500 again, repossessed it 3 months later. Sold it to my neighbor who wanted to know if it floats.... $250 cash and he sank it. Loved that old car. Hahaha
I really enjoy the way you tell stories. You’re such an eloquent and concise and don’t dramatize for effect. It’s refreshing that u aren’t blowing smoke and patting yourself on the back for being smarter and more clever than everybody. 😁👍 Keep up the great work, just found your channel this AM and I’ve already watched 14 or 15 videos! Oh I forgot, I also enjoy your guest hosts. They seem like good, down to earth ppl. Cheers 🥂
I just saw on road and track your RUF porsche is for sale at a dealer in my home town of dallas. what a small world. Just wanted to say you did a great job in fixing/restoring it.
“Sometimes you never know until you meet your heros what they’re actually gonna be like” “This was around the time of “diesel-gate” so I knew Bosch was up to the task.....” Best lines of 2018. Hands down 😂😂
I've owned 47 cars and several exotics, sold cars and even raced cars competively at one point and I know 0 compared to Ed. Best Channel on You Tube if you are a real car guy.
This is so true, Once I bought a Audi A3 1.8T from 1998 for 350 euro’s with a broken waterpump. Repaired it, and detailed the exterior, repainted the rims and brakes and changed the radio. When I had the car on jacks I saw a titanium sport-catback. Removed it, cleaned it and sold it on the Dutch marketplace for 700 euro’s. Swaped it for a stainless steel one. I placed the car on the marketplace and sold it for 2650 euro’s. Sold it for a total of 3350 euro’s made around 2900 euro’s. (Btw it was my first car).
I love your videos... here I am sitting down on my Buick 91 which doesn't start due to a battery failure and was supposed to take my family for dinner. Keep on... blessings brother.
Just when you think you heard the best Vinwiki car story ....Ed comes up with another, seriously how one guy can have so many cool stories? Keep em coming!
I love Ed's confidence, dont worry about the issues on my 70k car, just put a battery in it! and (2) computers/OBD2 ports is goofy. glad you got it sorted.
I am a huge fan of Gran Turismo and always wanted to see a Ruf in person. I haven't been that lucky, but at least you got a good flip and had some fun with it!
Such an expensive, rare , and $400,000 (!) car, and Ruf couldnt figure out how to make the electronics work? What, did it have a piggyback and a megasquirt to run the engine? Thats just cheap from Ruf's part.
Ed ur life is pure motivation in action im so happy ur dreams came true through hard work! Im not to terribly hard up about having my dream car now but one day i will i want a gt3
When I was brand new working in bodyshops, worked at one that specialized in Porsches. The owner actually was racing a bathtub Porsche, ran the VIN at the plant in Stuttgart, was Porsche USA#1. First Porsche ever made for the States, and he had a roll cage in it racing. That car was restored, and now Seinfeld has it. Anyways, we had a 94 RUF come in, knew nothing about it, but I knew I liked it. Took for a test drive, to look for the wind noise the customer was complaining about. OMG what a badass machine.
Thanks! Loved my Porsches but they do have a tendency to slip away if you are really pressing it. Found a few other cars, much better for far less money that don't self destruct if you hit a slick spot. Yet there is still something about them. sweet!
Just stumbled across this. Had no idea how bad your experience was. I can assure you and readers this is not the normal experience. Ironically, I traded a Murcielago for my RT12 and still have it 8 years later with no plans to ever sell. When running right, it would definitely be making 700+hp. 200+mph should be cake, and even more so with your ex being 2wd and narrow bodied vs my widebody AWD version. In my case, my hero turned out to be as good as expected and I routinely use it for long road trips as well.
Not with California. State emissions All OBD11 emission/ diagnostic ports are located on drivers side under dash. I was a Smog tech there in the 1990’s
If Ed and some of the other guys at VinWiki have the time to do podcasts occasionally, or even just make audio versions of these youtube videos available as a podcast, I'd listen to that all day long when I'm commuting.
My summer has consisted so much of watching the videos on this channel and I love hearing the stuff in West Palm Beach and stuff because I live in West Palm and I think it's so cool all the stuff I'm hearing that happens around me
Lol, dealerships won't accept cars for trade but they will scrap it for free. In 2017, if you have a 2003 japanese SUV they won't give you a dime. $1000 for them is like candy on halloween. If you look good, you'll save a few bucks but otherwise they say "no, sorry we can't trade unless you go bring your other new car here".
Pretty surprising to hear it was a bit of a basket case. I've been around 3 or 4 of the 993 based RUF models and they were just stunning. I also had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Ruf here in MN years ago at a World of RUF track event at BIR. That was all thanks to the Beddor family who were big Ruf fanatics and raced them for years at various hill climbs and track events.
Where exactly should I look for a property if I would want to move to GA with a car collection and wanted to have a good place for myself, my family and my passion?
Great video, interesting story...I had never heard of this Porsche until today. If one comes available I will hold on to my money....186 mph is way to slow...Who has that kind of time to waste. 🤭
"Got to about 186mph so I was disappointed" Best line ever.
lol Well, you get an expectation in your mind & it's disappointing when something falls short. Back in the late 80's my aunt had a Mercedes Hammer that was supposed to hit 185+. Any time Ed says "shrewd negotiator" you know it's going to be good...
Yeah that has to be his two favorite words
If I had teachers that spoke the way Ed does I would’ve loved waking up and going to school for 8 hours a day
Should I be a professor?
Ed Bolian come teach economics or business practices haha
Amen..... Yes Ed. Please be a professor
Thing is, Ed's telling a story that actually happened, which makes for a much more linear flow... as opposed to the tripe those hacks were trying to feed us from the script.
I’m guilty of putting Ed on at night so he can talk me to sleep. I don’t care if it’s awkward.
This is the only channel where I never find myself clicking out of the videos before they are done. 11 minutes and totally satisfied.
P WrightisRight It’s like movie night for me
I even stick around for the ad jingle.

It seems all my cars are my worst cars...and none of them profitable. I'm not sure I'm doing this right.

I love it when Ed says .” he was shrewd negotiator”
I have driven the original Yellowbird. That particular car owned its hero status like a legend.

Been a huge Ruf fan since I ever got into cars. Always keen to pick up on tidbits. Thank you for this vid!
I live in and have sold "exotic" cars here in Austin since 2006, we have a couple of RUFs running around town here.
I’m a simple man. I hear Ed telling a story on y’all’s channel I click 👍🏻 keep it mr Bolian you fantastic sob
Trevor De La Rosa it's kinda eds channel but I agree ed is awesome
Ed is a very good story teller. He doesn't say UM and his stories are short and concise!!
