I heard a part of this on a TV commercial and the melody stuck in my head. I am 87 years old and I had a problem finding the the song, but I did. It touches me in a way that I can't describe. I love this song. Bless you young man for being able to touch others through your music. May you continue!
Well done, Barbara! Check out his songs Harlem River; Slow Train; Miles, Miles Miles; Campfire; Destroyer; and The Ballad of Arlo Jones. Those are my favorites, so far. 😊
Hearing this song used for an Airbnb commercial brought me here. I liked the lyrics and the sound of the song so much, that I had to Shazam it. Cool song Mr. Kevin Morby.
This will be seen by very few - Please understand that this is a protest song where all the proceeds were donated to Everytown For Gun Safety. It's a song against gun violence. When he says pray for Paris - He is referring to the mass shooting in Paris. When he speaks of 49 dead - He is referring to the gay nightclub mass shooting in Orlando. When he speaks of Freddie Gray - He is referring to what cops joke about giving a 'suspect' a rough ride where he is handcuffed, put in the back of a van unsecured and driven around recklessly stopping and speeding up to make it a nightmare for the man in the back. Freddie Gray died after his ride from a spinal injury. All 6 officers were never convicted of anything. It's an awesome, stunning spiritual song. Just make sure you understand what it is saying to you.
Glad someone else is recognizing this. One of the reasons this song is so touching to me is the unique spin on a protest song. It’s a loving dedication to those unjustly killed; this song is the halo above their heads. Beauty in the face of undeserved death and discrimination.
There's a line in this song that really speaks to me . The only other person ever to say it was my dead mother . Kevin has just repeated her words . My heart,,,,,,,
That is so true and i too found it because advertisers paid to have it in their commercial, but there it is one of the finest songs I've ever heard touches me in all ways and words .It is indeed these gems stumbled upon for me that make music such an amazing pleasure to take in letting it change you thru sounds and lyrics . Thank you Kevin Morby ....for your music and your work.
Lyrics If you ever hear that thunder Put your eye to the sky, boy, and wonder Maybe there's a kingdom above the weather Oh, and whether you're gonna get our name is up to him If you ever hear that crying In the distance like some siren Maybe there's a singer With no ring around their little finger No love And If I lose my voice If I have no choice but to go quiet Won't you sing for me a melody into the night there Well, if I die too young, if the wolf he comes Fee-fi-fo-fum If I die too young, oh, if the locust come Well then, run, run, run Free If you ever hear that gunshot You may think 'bout what you do but you don't got Say a prayer, think of mother, I am a rock If you ever hear that sound now If the door gets kicked in here, they come now Think of others, be their cover I am what they're not Pray for Paris They can not scare us Or stop the music Your sweet voice, child Why don't you use it? If I die too young, or the gunmen come, I'm full of love So release me, every piece of me, up above (Up above, ooh ooh ooh) Love my mama and my papa Love my sister, can't stand the coppers up in their choppers Oh, flying overhead, forty-nine dead Singing, oh, my Lord, come carry me home Oh, my Lord, come carry me home I'm singing oh, my God, oh, my Lord Oh, my God, oh, my Lord Oh, my God, oh, my Lord Oh, my Lord And if I die too young for something I ain't done Carry my name every day Oh, I'm sorry Oh, I'm sorry Freddie Gray But sleep easy like baby Jesus in a manger Oh, sleep easy like little Jesus, beautiful stranger Oh, beautiful stranger If I die too young, let all that I've done be remembered And I'll sleep easy like baby Jesus in his manger And I'll sleep easy like little Jesus, safe from danger Carry onward, like some songbird, beautiful stranger Carry onward, like some songbird, beautiful stranger Oh, beautiful stranger
Why haven't I heard of this song until it was featured in a recent commercial? One of the most beautiful songs ever. Sings like Bob Dylan & resembles Michael Hutchence.
I see a lot of Dylan and Coen comparisons, but to me this has Lou Reed’s fingerprints all over it. Listen to The Velvet Underground’s Pale Blue Eyes if you are unfamiliar with it.
I LOVE the commercial that has a clip of this song in it………..That is what lead me to this artist, via Shazam app on the my phone. There are some commercials out now that are so sweet and tender that no matter what I’m doing, I just have to stop and go to the TV and watch…..This is just one.
Gosh, I would love to be a DJ for this RadioStation. This Artist, Thank you Kevin, you weaved a magnificent modern protest song here. I dont have the money atm to buy you officially, but people are hearing you through me, when I play songs too hard... which I am allowed to do by most my neighbours. As I manifestate as Dj`Tulip from Amsterdam. ~Namaste~
It's a shame you have to really dig for music like this. Love his studio version and hoping he is having some success. A little Bob Dylan, a little Tom Petty. The acoustics of this would be great at Bluegrass Underground.
A moving reference to the Paris terrorist attacks of Nov 13th 2015. Le Bataclan, a famous music venue, was most notably attacked while a concert was being performed. 90 people were killed.
Leonard Cohen and Bobby Dylan. Combo and. More and young….. where did this guy come from???? I haven’t looked yet….. i suppose I’ve been in the dark about his existence til now…. I’m happy to be at the party.
yep Run Run" Free!"~ I have a feeling that Bob Dylan enjoys his talent.~ poetry w thoughtful loving specter~ wild but w Peace~ The delivery is as good as the Message-Good Stuff ~ Just perhaps Elijah McClain is playing along with his very Peaceful violin~ Humanity needs more humans

What were they
Such a powerful song. Overwhelmingly beautiful and sad, yet hopeful.
Love listening to music, every now and then you run across a real gem like this song.
This song saves me over and over again. Wished it was longer
It brings tears to my eyes: "If i did too young for something I ain't done, carry my name. Oh I'm sorry, oh I'm sorry Freddie Gray" ❤️
39 years old, and just discovered this song. Very deep💪🏽👌🏽
Lyrics
If you ever hear that thunder
Put your eye to the sky, boy, and wonder
Maybe there's a kingdom above the weather
Oh, and whether you're gonna get our name is up to him
If you ever hear that crying
In the distance like some siren
Maybe there's a singer
With no ring around their little finger
No love
And If I lose my voice
If I have no choice but to go quiet
Won't you sing for me a melody into the night there
Well, if I die too young, if the wolf he comes
Fee-fi-fo-fum
If I die too young, oh, if the locust come
Well then, run, run, run
Free
If you ever hear that gunshot
You may think 'bout what you do but you don't got
Say a prayer, think of mother, I am a rock
If you ever hear that sound now
If the door gets kicked in here, they come now
Think of others, be their cover
I am what they're not
Pray for Paris
They can not scare us
Or stop the music
Your sweet voice, child
Why don't you use it?
If I die too young, or the gunmen come, I'm full of love
So release me, every piece of me, up above
(Up above, ooh ooh ooh)
Love my mama and my papa
Love my sister, can't stand the coppers up in their choppers
Oh, flying overhead, forty-nine dead
Singing, oh, my Lord, come carry me home
Oh, my Lord, come carry me home
I'm singing oh, my God, oh, my Lord
Oh, my God, oh, my Lord
Oh, my God, oh, my Lord
Oh, my Lord
And if I die too young for something I ain't done
Carry my name every day
Oh, I'm sorry
Oh, I'm sorry
Freddie Gray
But sleep easy like baby Jesus in a manger
Oh, sleep easy like little Jesus, beautiful stranger
Oh, beautiful stranger
If I die too young, let all that I've done be remembered
And I'll sleep easy like baby Jesus in his manger
And I'll sleep easy like little Jesus, safe from danger
Carry onward, like some songbird, beautiful stranger
Carry onward, like some songbird, beautiful stranger
Oh, beautiful stranger
Thank you
God Bless your soul sir
>>Oh, and whether you're gonna get ON IN is up to him

Nice! Simply beautiful! Nice lyrics, painting a picture, reminds of Dylan…when he had a voice
Just a soft peaceful dance for all the things we wont have
Love this so much! Mazzy Star with hint of Dylan. Soothes the soul just right. This is what music is supposed to sound like! Perfection!!❤

Lou Reed meets Bob Dylan meets Nick Drake. All rolled into one. Beautiful song.
I see a lot of Dylan and Coen comparisons, but to me this has Lou Reed’s fingerprints all over it. Listen to The Velvet Underground’s Pale Blue Eyes if you are unfamiliar with it.
